Please don’t take column climb out of the competition, I could remember when I could not climb the column, and then I won the very first apprenticeship competition, the column climb is a sign of strength when a young man trains for the column, the strength that he gets from climbing that column might save his life one day or someone else’s life, I have talked to old timers that have saved people because they were so strong from climbing columns, if you want to make the column good for people to climb .at the international ironworkers festival, we put a thin piece of Me-back plate on the column, we did that so the old timers can get up the column, if an 80-year-old man can climb a column then there’s no excuse for a 20-year-old man to climb the column. I pray you don’t take that out of the competition, as ironworkers if we can’t do something we find a way to do it, sincerely Eric Costa local 397. I met you Mr Worely when I competed , if I can help in any way to make column climb more competitive for competitors please contact local 397 Tampa and they will give you my phone number
I was there for this. She absolutely killed it in this event. The guy she went up against ended up placing in the top ten. This is harder than it looks. Column is extremally slippery.
