Great! We've met a few couples who live nomadic. Sometimes, the big dream can seem so far away. I recommend you start small, now (if you haven't already). Maybe do multi-day camping road trips and camp out of your car or even rent a van. This way, you can start adjusting to the lifestyle and figure out what works best for you. Best wishes!

I love your outlook on van builds and realising that it's an amazing learning opportunity, and reframing mistakes/costs like that. We are a way off being able to start our van life, but your layout is the best I've seen for us (we'll also have two teens by the time it finally happens) and your reasons for taking the family on the road are really aligned with ours, too. It's a scary thought that things might go wrong that cost us more money, BUT you're absolutely right that those mistakes are valuable lessons and it's not wasted time/money if you look at it like that. Hopefully that will help us to try out things we never thought we could do! Thank you for taking the time to walk through the more technical aspects :-)

Your layout inspired us. We are building a L2H2 into a van for 5 persons. We will probably use your idea for the double bed. Are you going to post a video on this setup? It seems like the backchairs are lower than your front seats, how did you solve this?
@WayOutRailroad
@WayOutRailroad 29 дней назад
You're correct. The back seats are lower so It doesn't rest on those. Had to come up with an innovative support solution of our own. We'll make a video about that at some point. So many projects going on at the moment. Thanks for watching!

@WayOutRailroad

We have plenty of room. One of our goals when traveling is to connect with nature and enjoy being outdoors. Being in a van encourages us to spend most of our time outside. And when we're rained in, there's enough room for all of us to be comfortable. Plus, a van fits into a normal parking spot and drives like a car. So it's much more convenient to move around in

It's a needed conversation that actually goes deeper than the "cookout", because if we literally do wind up in a race war, then you have to see who's part of the tribe. The "others" might be a given, but what happens when you have to start cutting off the problem within--- including relatives. You don't have to be an anti-Black "hire" to be a serious problem either. It does require knowing who can still be redeemed and deprogrammed... some can, some can not; and we'd have to be able and willing to let them go, because sometimes you can invest to a point of no return. KW and CO are definitely NOT... EVER... invited.... EVEEERRRRR.
@WayOutRailroad
@WayOutRailroad 2 месяца назад
"Juneteenth Cookout" is being used as a metaphor here, representing events that are specifically centered on the Black freedom struggle. These kind of events require more discernment on who is invited and are necessarily more exclusive to preserve the sanctity and focus of the event. The concept of a "race war" is often used to stoke fear and tends to lean into bigotry. In reality, it's a bit too "black and white" to be considered a realistic outcome of our current situation. It doesn't take into account that our struggle against oppression has always been inclusive of other oppressed communities and allies. We live in a racist society that is also plagued by systems of imperialism/colonialism, patriarchy. It will take a diverse, intercommunal movement to end these oppressive systems and transform this society.
@WayOutRailroad
@WayOutRailroad 2 месяца назад
It is most def a necessary conversation and thinking about it as a special cookout is a easier way for Black folks supportive of the struggle to share and hash out those real factors. I hear you loud and clear on KW & CO not coming to the Juneteenth cookout. I also struggle with giving grace and offering redemption! Thanks for that insight.
@HSR-bk5qb
@HSR-bk5qb 2 месяца назад
@@WayOutRailroad I understand the metaphor, but consider this: Black people have no friends; even among the "allies", we'd have to still sort out who's there to actually HELP and who's there to only MANIPULATE. Having Juneteenth on the books is a manipulation, as the same factions simultaneously fight against reparations. Every "gift" ain't good. Next, we have to be absolutely CLEAR on what "help" actually means. Some believe being absorbed and integrated equally into this (corrupt) society should be the end goal. Others of us believe in a version of "peaceful" sovereignty where people co-exist without being bound by the confines of integration. Based on those general worldviews, we will categorize who is helping and who is sabotaging and manipulating. Behind us and in front of us NOW, we have EXTENSIVE history--- GLOBAL Black history--- that reveals to us what to do and what not to do where these matters are concerned. That history tells us about how our enemies use us and themselves to attain their goals, so we have no excuse to keep falling into the same trap. If we are HEALED, then our discernment will tell us who is who --- internal or external, we'll be able to KNOW "helpers" from "manipulators".
@HSR-bk5qb
@HSR-bk5qb 2 месяца назад
@@WayOutRailroad Grace and redemption are accorded individually, because, like I stated, people may truly become "woke" (coming to hate that term at this point) based on spiritual inclination, experience, exposure, education, and how much they are (socially) vested into the "others". Candace Owens may have been one of the "hires" you alluded to, but if she had chosen a non-public, regular life and married a white man because she believed she was improving her DNA, she'd still be a problem simply because those values would be pushed into our community; regardless of how or what means you push the "agenda", it would still be problematic.

Thanks for watching. It's a small but important thing. Between cookinh inside the van and having wires running all over the place, a fire extinguisher could come in handy. We may end up switching to a fire blankets because they are less messy.
