Dear Donna, thanks for taking the time to write and for your appreciation. I hope you enjoy printing with acrylic - I love it and can then use my prints in my mixed media process - best of luck in your art journey. Tricia
Tricia I am only new to painting and have chosen Atelier, I painted a waterfall and the water in pond needs something as its become murky and a medium in gloss. Which one do I use? I bought satin varnish, retarder, and the unlocking formula, I keep coming home with the wrong one.
@@donna1390 oh no ! I am sorry to hear that you are having trouble with finding the right medium. If you are thinking of having the surface of the water more of a gloss, then you have the satin varnish - just spread it evenly and slowly with a soft brush (a Taklon brush - that's the name of the synthetic fibre, not a brand name) - use it on the surface after the paint has dried, not in with the paint while you are working. If however, you are wanting to clean up the actual paint colour of the water at the base of the waterfall, - if it has become greyed and muddied through overworking it - then I suggest you sponge a light layer of white over it, like a soft misty effect. After that has dried, repaint the waterfall pool in the cleaner colours you are after. Then only apply the satin varnish after you are happy with the whole painting and it will even out the surface sheen of the whole painting. Retarder is for mixing in with your acrylic paint to keep it wet for a longer time while you are working (I use the new Thick Medium for this purpose now) and the unlocking formula is for re-wetting an area of your painting that needs some attention, during the painting session - not days afterward. Please let me know if I have the wrong idea about what you are trying to achieve?
Thank you thank you thank you. I love using these paints and have so much to learn. I saw your tutorial on mediums, I will purchase the medium you suggested. It's exciting to think what is possible working with these paints and mediums. Thank you for all your advice, I will do my best at fixing it. Once again I'm so pleased to of found you. I love your Art and it has opened my mind up to endless possibilities.
@@donna1390 no worries! Where are you situated? Chroma sponsors me for workshops on how to use the new mediums and the new pigmented inks - if you have a group there and are not too far away from me geographically I can send you info - Chroma supplies little containers of the mediums for people to play with and learn how/why to use
Dear Anne, yes, always varnish my work. Acrylic paint especially, dries with a porous finish that absorbs dirt, and with the changes of temperature the paint moves, so really important to seal.
