We live on a small 1.8 acre homestead. We live in a zone 4 area and garden with short season varieties. We started our gardens from scratch and have been raising our chickens since 2018. We are passionate about helping others reach homesteading and country life goals. With joys and disappointments, with hardships and tight budgets, we hope to help others looking to live a similar lifestyle and provide practical knowledge drawn from our own experience, in our backyard.

Figs is good for boils and sores. I have psoriasis on my hands and it doesn't help my psoriasis. Two very different conditions, and two very different kinds of treatment needed.
I got some potatoes from Eganville farmer, good price, if you are interested. Haven't checked my potatoes yet 😬not sure what they will be like. Our flour corn didn't do well, it was too wet, went mouldy. Popcorn did ok, so far but it hasn't completely dried yet.
I want to try this.... Theres a bunch of youtube videos saying that the onion and honey combo causes cancer and eye problems...... what are your thoughts?
We have been using this for years. It really is at your own discretion. I can't say it won't cause that, and your using at your own risk. My thoughts however is they are two natural ingredients that you are using for a short time. You're not taking this every day and most of the time, when we are sick you might take this for 3-7 days at most. This cough syrup has been around for centuries. If you don't use this, what will you use to help your sore throat or sickness? Is it worse then this? What over the counter meds will you use in place of it? What is the ingredients of your usual treatment? Are they cancer causing? If your afraid of the combo, just take a spoonful of honey to help sooth your throat.
If the chick is fully developed, and it didn’t come out, it is good for me to spray some water on the eggs after transferring them to the last 3 days to hatching so that the egg shells soften.
I wouldn't. I have had better success helping the chicks get out of the eggs. Its really a matter of having high humidity during those last 3 days or so, and when I first started years ago hatching eggs I use to spray inside and the ones that had peeped little holes ended up dying from too much water.
Nuh uh not with a Rhode Island Red rooster If you have yourself an aggressive Rhode Island Red rooster, they're not like dogs where they'll learn whose pack leader eventually Every day is a new day to them and they'll jump kick you on a whim

It seemed to work just fine for us. We use mostly our woodstove, sometimes our furnace, but for the most part things grew. The warmer temps are most important when germinating for most seeds.
We got 3 silky rosters at first we got them as baby’s we bought them off some one who didn’t know if there was going to be a roster. Naw they are older and we got more chicken’s female’s except for one Roster so now we have 2 rosters 1 silky rooster and the other roster they are all different breads My parents wanted to have them as layers so we have eggs. My older brother is really in charge of them. Naw the rooster silky all was attacks me every time I go near some of the other chickens and runs right at me I scream at it yell at it but nothing seems to work for it to leave me alone. I don’t know why he is ok with my 2 brothers my younger and older one and my mom and dad but not me. I am naw afraid to go near the chicken coop. I do not like that chicken.
Yes, its a pecking order thing. You are not top dog to him. Sometimes its a breed thing too. Not all chicken breeds are a friendly as other breeds. I will do a video next year talking about the best breeds for family friendly chickens. We haven't had too bad of roosters so far. I would say if you already have a rooster, maybe get rid of the one your afraid of. I wouldn't want the rooster to hurt you.
@@rootedfromthesoul2855 you are sooo welcome!! It was a huge relief for me too. I just had to share. Kinda annoying to have it your mouth but it is sure better than the agony of a toothache!
Thanks, I didn't know you could grab them by their tail feathers. Good to know. I'm picking up 3 hens and one rooster today, and I will probably have to catch them.
The weather has been incredible! I am loving it! With going away in the peak of harvest time it a difficult decision, but there is always next year and we are so thankful that you helped us out through that so that we could still have a harvest to come back to. Like you, last year we put a lot of things away and still have overflow from then that we will enjoy this year. We were still able to harvest tomatoes for canning and we have been putting away zucchini for burgers 😃. Looking forward to see what our potato harvest will be and also our dried corn. Next year will hopefully be a better year for both of us. Sometimes you just gotta make a priority or family and taking a much needed break.
Yes, for sure! I too am curious about our potato harvest, and looking forward to a much better garden season next year. I am glad you were about to get some tomatoes still for canning and you had a ton of zucchini's still.
Wetting agent = Surfactant = baby shampoo or dawn dishsoap. It breaks the surface tension of the water. Kinda like when you add a drop of dish soap to greasy water. We lawn guys have the same problems with our yards. Soil amendments are good. Wetting agents are good. Farmers till the ground.
Hi I just saw your post and think your recipe will be wonderful for me to make ! Thsnk you gif the video , might I suggest when your stirring metal against metal to do your instructions before or after the stirring , it was hard understanding what you were saying using the metal whisk in the pot maybe a silicone whisk would help I think ! You may not see this post since I see it was listed 3,yrs ago ! But I hope others do see your video because it’s a very helpful one !! God bless 🙏🙋🏻🌈🌈
@@beckystone7994 thank you. This was one of my very first videos I ever did. I've learned much from this one doing so well. Perhaps I should redo it so it's easier to hear. RU-vid was a learning curve in the beginning, thanks for all the tips though. And I am sure you will love this one!

Hi...i looked up the recipe on the website and noticed that a 12 oz can of tomato paste was used..but i seen you only used 1 small can of tomato paste which is almost 6 oz...i want to make this recipe but dont want to add 2 small cans of tomato paste and have it turn out too thick...so is 1 small can of tomato paste enough for this recipe?thanks
@@ritabb9692 Hi, yes. That's good you clarified. I only used one can of tomato paste and really liked the texture of this salsa. I hope it works for you and you enjoy it. 😊
@@PloughmansBackyard I made this salsa today and I did add 2 small cans of tomato paste..it tastes really good..I only got 6 pints and a 1/2 pint...is that what you usually get for a batch?thx
