The Peter Ross is not this! Tippet tail, rear 2/3 silver body, front 1/3 red dubbing, silver rib. Teal flank wing, black hackle collar! Just Google it! Not sure what this pattern is but it is not a Peter Ross!
I make an almost identical fly. Some observations … after making your gold tag, I would leave the remainder of the tinsel where you finished. Then put a coat of clear Sally Hansen or similar on the tread on the shank. Make your loop add your peacock and lie in the body … the SH will “ glue “ the peacock body to the thread base. Then wind the tinsel at the tag as your ribbing! Wind in the hackle and finish. The fly will be even stronger and more robust! Great pattern, caught lots of trout with it!
Love that tie . will change a bit for me , will whip finish before trim and color . see no reason for dots on top , but to each his own . after all they are our own works of art .
I am now confused. The half back I tied and fished 40 years ago did not have a "trude" wing. Body and legs same, however, abdomen had a schell back of p-tail. Wonder now which is "original".
