My name is Jay Fleming and I'm going to start an experiment on RU-vid. I've never been an extrovert, so we'll see if I can get outside of my head and project my life onto your video viewing device. There will be talking head stuff (assuming I can stand to hear my own voice), day to day business related stuff, local adventures, building cool things, and whatever else is important enough to share.
I'm not in front of the software right now, but if I remember correctly, you can hold Shift or Ctrl when you click on items and it will allow for multiple selections.
Off the top of my head, I think this command does the top and bottom symmetrically. There may be another command that will, but I'm not where I can verify. Otherwise, a more robust software, such as Corel Draw, as you've stated, is required.
Hey Brayden, the easiest thing I know to do is create a shape, squares are good, at the top left and bottom right of your design. Make copies of the squares and layer them on top of each other. You'll want to make a set of squares for each color of your design including the shadow color. Cut out each color individually, including the set of squares for each color, then layer the design using the squares to align each color.
I'm using LXi master 12 and Lxi production manager 12. Yesterday I was cutting with no problem. i wanted to optimize my cutting and went into production manager. I didn't think I click on anything, but now my cutter is not cutting. My design goes to the production manager, I hit send, I see it in the job status and looks like it's cutting, but nothing. Can you help me, please. thanks
hey jay i have a vinyl express 2 r31 my usb port broke and i had a hard time finding the board when i finally found 1 and installed it i cant get it to cut anything but little squares can you give me any suggestions on what i should do my plotter has been down for awhile now and i really could use it any help would be truely appreciated
Have you tried reinstalling Production Manager or setting up your cutter again in PM? I feel like I've had issues with Production Manager only linking the cutter to one USB port, so it wouldn't work if you connect it to a different one. Check your Port settings. My port is COM3 (specific to my USB port I think), 9600 bps, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit, flow control xon/xoff, only RTS and CTS checked.
Hi, when you go into cut, only part of the image selected will show up. So if you had clicked on the red portion, only that would show up in the cut dialog box. If you selected everything, in the cut dialog, under the third tab with the cutter blade (not with the +), you have choices of your different colors. I'll put together a quick video and post it showing what is happening.
I have LXI 12 Expert. I was able to distort, but I am not able to change the size of the shadow under drop. It is grayed out. Can you give any suggestions please?
Hi Bo. Hopefully I can still help three weeks later. I think you may have the wrong type of drop shadow chosen. In the Design Central box and Shadow tab, near the bottom right is a button to allow you to choose the type of drop shadow. Choose the option with two red overlapping squares and the black outlined square. If you have this one selected and hover over it, it will be called Shadow Drop Offset Surround. The first two options in that drop down don't have an offset value associated and therefore will be grayed out.
If you're workspace is setup like mine, which isn't too far from default, the second option on the left tool bar is the Text tool. If you click on that tool, then click somewhere in your design, it should create a text box. If you need more info, please specify what you're trying to do and I'll look when I get home tonight.
That is correct. The R series does not do contour cutting. I have never tried a work around, although I think there may be one. Until I try it, I don't want to lead you down a path that doesn't work.
@@trallytraltv6014 scissors would be precise, or an x-acto knife. I was thinking with some creative planning it could be done on the cutter but it may not be worth it, and just be easier to cut them out off the machine.
Understandable. I think i May invest in a cricut cutter for issues like those. I’ve heard that they have a laser on the cutter that knows exactly where to cut
@@trallytraltv6014 out of curiosity, I looked the Cricut up but couldn't find anything about them being able to contour cut. I saw where Sign Warehouse has a cutter called the Rogue that has ARMS (automatic registration mark sensor) and will do contour cutting. Its $599 for their lowest model but still looks to be better than my R31.
Jay Fleming also I see that when you purchase it, it has the different levels of costumer care, would you recommend getting it, like have you had to use it. Originally I used flexisign so I do know these type of programs
@@JrD143 I wouldn't recommend getting additional customer care beyond the basic. I don't recall ever needing support. Installation and setup is very simple. The user interface is easy to navigate. Since you already have flexsign experience, this should be an easy transition. I would not recommend buying the software by itself unless you only get the apprentice version. If you buy the Expert version, for $100 more you get can get the software and an R31 cutter with a lot of sample vinyl.
Can you create custom pattern swatches? I've seen it done on Illustrator ...(www.elancreativeco.com/convert-photoshop-patterns-into-illustrator-pattern-swatches/)
Bryan, I don't believe you can. There are some built in patterns but they're not even modifiable. You might look into Inkscape as a supplement to LXI. It's a lot more powerful vector software. I haven't tried to create a pattern in Inkscape though.
Steven, I looked through every setting, color palette, etc and couldn't find anything about custom gradients. SAI/Flexi software will let you it appears but the LXI version seems to be less feature-rich.
Brush Script MT should be pre-loaded if you have a Windows PC. If not, you can probably find it on a free font website. Google "brush script mt font" and you should get several sites to download it.
I have the same cutter and software , can cut a 1 color sticker like a boss , but like you said not much instruction with the software when you buy it . I will be following your channel .
I’m just getting started on LXI, this video is going to be a big help. I’ve been wanting to do this design and I plan on following this video step by step. I’m using siser HTV which shrinks, should I do a bigger white border? Going to use a black hoodie. Thanks for the video!!
Glad the video will help you out. I've never had any issues with the Siser HTV shrinking, but if it's a concern, definitely do a thicker border. There is also the possibility of less adhesion with a thinner border, so it would be a better idea to go thicker. It would probably help with the overall contrast on the black hoodie anyways.
Hello Jay. Enjoyed the video. I'm a beginner. Can you please do a video demonstrating how to send the design to the vinyl cutter, cutting and weeding it?
Hey @DC I haven't used the cutter much since my last reply. I hope you've been able to work with your software and cutter in the meantime. If you still need help with something, don't hesitate to ask.
I didn't see this comment until now. Is this the same as you were saying on my other video? If you're still needing help, send me an email and I can help more efficiently.
can anyone help me with putting contour cuts around multi color logo with small letters using flexi12 ? I have a Mutoh 628 printer and the Qe6000 cutter. Thanks
Glenda, I apologize for the late reply. I can help with the contour cuts but getting it setup to print right with the Mutoh 628 and getting it scanned by your QE6000, you may have to find other resources. Another user below asked the same question. I'll reply to his comment and see if he can help with other resources.
Do you know of any tutorials that show how to print and cut with two separate machines? So how to take a printed design from a vinyl printer then to take it over to a vinyl cutter. Looking for a video that shows the steps from start to finish. thanks :)
I've seen videos on this but I can't recall right off. Search for The Rhinestone World. They have a lot of tutorials that may get you what you want. The biggest issue I know of is aligning the registration marks on the cutter. If you are using a VE R31 cutter, it can't scan for registration marks. Can you post the printer and cutter you're using, and I can see if I can help find something.
@@dnacustomnutritionsuppleme421 I looked up the specs on your cutter and it looks like contour cutting was an option, so if yours has it, you should be good to go
Were you able to track down some good resources for the contour cutting? Another viewer Glenda Rogers was needing the same information and I'm seeing if you can help.
Is Distort grayed out or doesn't exist at all? If it's grayed out, you'll need to select the word first. I verified and all versions of LXI 12 have Distort. Are you using a version older than 12?
ive been fabricating signs for years ,now that digital printing is being used plotters and software for vinyl have become more affordable like you,ive bought the same sai/lxi/flexi plotter and find that its alot more than i thought ,but after all these years of going to a(vinyl guy ) i can do it all, design, cut, apply, fab, and install but having trouble with this plotter had it for months and i just took out of the box this week and started to try and use it worked with flexi before weeded and applied plenty but still haven't been able to get this damned mchine to make a cut your video really helped and now im gonna get right back at it thanks gonna keep watching but if idont get something cut soon idk what will happen to this f!$@!ing machine
@@jayflemingvideos i finally got it cutting it was a port issue, now im trying to work and im ve been doing some sign faces .i know there has got to be an easier way to duplicate these faces how would you make a exact copy to a 4'x8' sign face full of custome copy
@@williampowell239 I'm not completely comprehending your question but if you're asking how to tile the design so it can be cut on a smaller plotter, honestly I don't know. I haven't needed to do that yet. I can look at the software this weekend and let you know. But start by laying out your background to 48 x 96. That may help get you started. The tiling will be a lot of tedious work but worth it if done right.
@@jayflemingvideos thanks for the speedy reply, your the only person that even acknowledge a question that ive been asking for 1yr,back to the problem i was haveing, you are right , i did start out with the 48"x96" back round and i dragged a pic of the into the LXI software and started from there ,would really like to keep intouch, you seem like you know the software pretty well thanks for the reply cant wait for any pointers if i can help would be glad to.ive been doing all kinds of sign fabracation for about 25yrs thanks again
@@williampowell239 my email is jaymfleming at gmail.com. Feel free to shoot me an email. That may elicit a quicker and more thorough response. You can also attach a couple images of your screen so I have a better idea of what you're working on.
Good video buddy i have the same program but i having trouble importing a design to due for my atv and i cant figure out how to just due the out line of decal can you help me on that
Francisco Rios, sorry for the late response. I can help. Are you working with a jpg or some other picture file that you're trying to import into LXI Expert? The import is simple, just go to file>import and select your picture. Once you have the picture in your design, go to the Bitmap menu>Vectorize>Auto Trace. I go for more Noise Reduction, more Corners, Full resolution, 50% tolerance. Then click on the area of the picture you want to outline. This operation will add a Black outline to the picture. If there are other areas you want the outline of, you'll need to select each one individually. Only intersecting areas will be selected at one time. Hope this helps. If you have any other questions, feel free to reply. If this is fairly close to what you're needing, I can make a quick video showing the steps if it'd help. Or you can email me your design at soonercity at gmail dot com and I can work through it with you.
So this video was perfect but for some reason my combine box only let's me click on weld by color or weld the last four options are not able to use sucks
Absolutely, just make everything that's white black and vice versa. Just select everything and change the color to black, then change your substrate color to some color other than black.
Also, I noticed your last name is different now. I hope you don't mind that I said it in the video. I changed it to Walker in the text description though.
This was awesome thank you so much for taking the time out to do a video for me.. but I do have another question what color vinyl do i use to cut the font with does it matter ?
Michelle Walker it doesn't really matter but if I were to make this for a shirt, I'd use white heat transfer vinyl and cut everything that is white. The software will automatically separate the colors if you select everything. When you weed the design, remove the black rectangles leaving the white letters and remove the black letters. Doing all this will leave everything that's white on your application film but will make all of the black areas see through. This will allow the shirt color to show through the areas that are black on the design. If you're making a sticker, do everything the same as above but make a background sticker the same size as the overall size of the design in a color of your choice but leave it a solid filled square. Then you can layer the white design over the other color and it will show through the negative space.
Michelle Hernandez Hi Michelle, I plan to make a video of the cutter. I've actually got footage but will probably refilm it. What specifically are you trying to cut so I can duplicate as closely as possible?
Jay Fleming I'm trying to do letters inside a vinyl sheet I'm not sure if that makes since pretty much like letters inside of box I'm not sure if you ever saw the straight outta shirts lol
Good video! I have the same set as you i was tring to duplicate your project the problem im have i can not get it to combine so i can remove the overlap the overlap stays grey any suggestion thank you for any help you could give me.
Which part are you making gray, the words on the shadows? After you do the "Remove Overlap" procedure, the top layer, the red "Mom" will go behind it's shadow, so you will need to right click on the black shadow for Mom, go to Order then To Back. I may be misunderstanding. Could you be clicking on the word Baseball and the word Mom when you're doing the Remove Overlap. You should click on Baseball and the shadow for Mom, which will create the space between Baseball and Mom.
it wont let me do the remove overlap. both words are as you have them i was wondering if i was missing a step because i followed your steps in the video an when i come to the part to remove overlap it is grey and i can not click on it, on the video if you go to 7:51 of it i selected the shadow as you did then selected the B as you did went to combined an could not select remove overlap it is grey and not able to be selected
I did another quick video showing the steps that may be easier to follow. Doesn't include any audio but is an actual screen recording, so it's definitely cleaner. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0xycf9rdB8U.html
Jay my understanding on cut and print with two separate machines you have to have a cutter that can read registration marks laid down by the plotter/cutter. The VinylExpress R series do not have that function. I happen to own a VinylExpress R series cutter that came with the LXi software don't get me wrong it is a good machine for the money, but I am seriously thinking to upgrade to a cutter that can read registration marks and with a bit more advance contour cutting ability..
