Also, if you can get the Hal Leonard version of Steely Dan’s Deacon Blues, you’ll find many essential jazz guitar chords that you will use forever. One of the earlier Steely Dan books also covers the “Moo” major chord that later shows up as the Ebmaj7 in Prince’s Purple Rain. I enjoy your lessons, Mike.

Yes, definitely from classical many of the concepts used by jazz musicians have their origins in classical music e.g., Barry Harris's musical approach inspired by Bella Bartok's concepts. Warm regards. Mike

Good morning very interesting the triads solution and various inversions and rope jumps the only doubt is how do you memorize all these shapes it would not be better to find a construction linked perhaps to a symmetrical scale as an example the augmented scale thanks anyway for your beautiful videos

I love feature three, where lowering any note of a dimished chord creates a dominant 7! This'll come in useful when transcribing - if you find a shape that differs from a dimished by one semitone (on one string) this helps identify it.

A question on the subject: since there is a dominant major on a key and its tritone is also on the relative minor, I seem to see that you can play any combination within the same hexatonal scale and on both, so I don't have to think according to the circle of fifths, but anything goes.... or wrong thank you very much

Thank you very much for all the great lessons. The slow pace and the clarity of explanations are outstanding. After the first 20 something lessons of the chord melody series I have serious questions left though ... I am perfectly able to follow and to understand the steps and the context, But somehow I cannot really comprehend how to put things into action. I mean, when people meet for jam sessions, the musicians would play tunes as depicted in the real books. I have learned to assign the major chords to the 6th dim scale, I know that I can play a minor 6 on the dominant - and I can't deal with the rest : ))) I need to learn to assign all chords of a tune to those 6ths - I seem to draw a mental blank on this. Would you mind point to a cue or to lessons that explain this? I hope that my question even makes sense and I thank you for support. Zsolt
