I was the MLB Authenticator that worked with Barry Bonds. I authenticated 756 and a few more after. Trick was a invisible blue die I applied to four spots on the red thread holding the ball together. The serial number I stamped on the ball was a distraction. You needed a black light pen to verify it. I did and I felt pretty dam special to be able to do that. We authenticated everything Barry wore, the umpires wore and everything the Giants wanted. Bases, home plate, pitcher's mound - you name it - I authenticated it that night. Very blessed to have done that.
Just imagine, if Barry Bonds hadn't got jealous of sosa and McGwire he would have still had an outside chance of passing Henry Aaron, and he would almost certainly be considered the greatest player of all time. The only season that was well outside of his usual homerun Pace was the 73 Homer year. Before he started using steroids, he was already considered one of the greatest to ever play much the same as Mike Trout is thought of now. But he just had to get jealous and get on the sauce
Never imagined a skinny 190lb kid leaves Pittsburgh,,goes West,,after 1 year he's 230lbs,and lookin like Lou Ferigno,,,and year after year he's just hittin bombs,,amazing what steroids do huh?? Never forget seeing SF at Houston,,starting pitcher for Houston in total control,Barry hadn't done squat,,,and funny thing,,Houston suddenly made pitching change,to a Rookie,,and 2 pitches in,,"Bomb"!!!! Now,,why would you have a pitcher who's in control,,decide to take him out?????? Here's why; $$$$ and further pad the stats of an ego steroid chump,,,,
Those were the years they all were cheating. Hank Aaron is still the home run king. If they wasn’t cheating, whey aren’t they in the Hall of Fame? If you can’t do it without cheating then it hasn’t been done!! Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth live on champs
Damn, I wonder what it would've been like back in the days of Aaron, Williams, Mantle, Maris & even longer ago with Ruth & Gehrig, if steroids were back in the game back then!? Ruth probably would've had 80 or 90 Homers in a season, Aaron probably would've had over 800 in his career? Williams probably definitely would've had well over 700 if he didn't lose 6 years of his prime to 2 wars? But, Baroid has the 'record', say what you will about a guy like Pete Rose, who's banned for life from the Hall- he never took anything to make him better on the field! Never cheated his performance!
I watched this happen live in a Circuit City in Bellingham, WA. It was on every TV being sold in the store. It wasn't that crowded, but I remember every guy in that area of the store stopping what they were doing to watch when he sent that ball flying.
I remember watching him at Candlestick Park in either 1993 or 1994 when I was a kid. I remember him getting booed a lot. Seemed like he wasn't liked much even back then.
