Was brought to NoVA in 1968 as a Navy brat.. in all the years living here (altho WA PNW is home), i wouldn't trade living anywhere else, unless it's a deserted island. I started life here in HS, College (summer pay was tuition), worked in DC and VA, saved $$ to buy a condo as a single. Married, sold condo to buy SF, 3 BR, 1 BA, 1025 sf, 1/2 acre, raised 3 kiddos, divorced, worked to earn a 401K, now retired. Living here can be pricey.. that's why I'm in rural suburbs, everything is not that far away.. mountains, ocean, theatre, concerts.. even NY. Living is relative.. just go with flow.
I’m in northern Virginia and definitely the people you guys are so to yourselves and not in an introverted way in a way where you will walk and cut me off without even a “excuse me” in Texas that’s RARE it’s always a “no you go ahead it’s okay” no one says good morning either it’s so unfamiliar to me
When I was a Realtor in Northern Virginia I represented the seller of one of the properties that became a part of Ashburn Farm. Access was via a one-lane gravel road that ran behind Belmont (no country club there at that point), and an easement through another property - no such seclusion there now! Fascinating to see how that area has changed.
Good video. What I would like to see is a comparison of prices across the DMV. Take your condo and drop it in Frederick County MD. How much would you be paying there? What about your living expenses? What about in Montgomery MD? Or Fairfax County?
Because of all the bidding wars, new constructions are currently the same or less expensive than a house built in the 1970s (that's falling apart) in the competitive areas we've been looking in even going above the base price.
Rate cut is bound to come coming September and continues to go down. On top of that recession is on the way,,, i don't know about housing market price going up next year.

you just blew past the CAR TAX???!!! $1,600!!!! You clowns are insane for living somewhere like that. Just on self respect and decency I would never move to such a place. This is uncontested "BLUE STATE" crap that people who vote BLUE create and then run to RED STATES to start their idiocy of voting patterns all over again.
Lived in Fairfax/Vienna. One thing people don't tell you is how rude and entitled the people are in NoVA. If you can not help their careers they want nothing to do with you. Plus you get a lot of "Do you know who I am?" Karen type of attitude. So glad I don't live there anymore.
If you love woke progressive government, than definitely look into Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William. You'll love it there especially their progressive prosecutors...

Unless you have to move(new job in another state), then there isn't any reason to leave Ashburn. Actually my next video is a neighborhood spotlight on Ashburn Village.

Why is my expense total amount the same and my children are adults and don't live with me..and I live in Stafford? And my groceries are less $500 month, and i eat out maybe maybe 1 x month, amd work from home...fulltime.
You say over half a million for a condo isn’t bad is ironclad proof we are experiencing late stage capitalism. People about to learn some hard lessons about how a bell curve works.
South Virginia is like a whole different state, lol. Our taxes are quite reasonable here. Nothing like back in NJ. Apparently, north VA I similar to there tho, wild!
I moved to Ashburn in 2021. Rent was $1700 something. This year, I got a lease renewal form for $2400 something. That's a $700 increase in around 4 years. That's just base rent. In this area, you will not find a single apartment complex where the base rent is the final number so it's even more money, generally over $100 added on in hidden fees. I eat 1 full meal a day and work in the data centers here doing both hardware and system administration work. After all this time doing everything I can to save, all I have in savings is $2000 which doesn't even cover a single month's rent. I rarely take time off and live alone. I rarely go out too because anything outside of walking trails costs too much to continue saving whatever I can scrape after paying the cost of living here. The Internet's internal functions are my passion but is it worth getting legally robbed every month?
Keep it up Cody, you just can't be a datatech forever if you want to thrive here, or you need to get roommates maybe. There's a lot of competition for datacenter techs, work on some more specialize tech skills, go up the stack a bit, and you'll command a higher salary, and benefit moreso from the job market in this area.
I've lived in fairfax County all my life and traffic is nice! All the bad traffic in fairfax County is near Tysons which is why he says it's bad since he lives in Loudoun. Literally all the traffic technically is in that spot and leaving farifax County
