There was a proposal for the IRT to take over the branch, and connect to today's 7 train. The line would've then been extended to The Bronx via a massive vertical lift bridge and serve Throgg's Neck. Due to the expenses involved of double tracking the branch, eliminating the grade crossings, and the Coast Guard and Defense Departments calling the proposed bridge a navigational hazard, the plan was shelved.
All the things they got rid of is absolutely ridiculous. Gives people things to do and enjoy for what more stores that people can’t afford to buy things from anyway.
There is a struggle for the city to figure out what to do with this land they are actually asking for ideas from anyone. They want to limit traffic to the area though so plans for a giant distribution center were shot down. Maybe a wetlands park? Currently they are extending the road the already started from the Whitestone Expressway to 23rd avenue all the way to 20th avenue. They are also restoring the wetlands alongside the linden place road extension they just built. Tony avella says buildings will sink. Im not too construction savvy so i don’t know much about that. Any thoughts on this what would be cool and practical over there? An aviation museum?? A great park??
I'm shocked I found this on RU-vid 😮 I remember this place in the Cross County shopping center OMG. My Dad took us there way back in 1971 cuz we just moved close to the adventures inn amusement park 🎢 and yes I remember most of the rides " the monster" the " space pillow" and we went at night time I remember it was a very hot summer night and I vaguely recall all the rides being well lit up and there was classic rock music playing OMG it was like being in another galaxy as a 6 year old lol 🥰 Funny cuz I googled it and all the photos came up of when the place was shut down and it was getting ready to be bulldozed. So very sad 😢 it seems all the good positive things get shut down or taken away from us. Yeah I still got a picture in 1973 if riding a horse 🐴 on 1 of the rides. Thanks to my Dad RIP 🌹🫂🌹
Thank you for this video. I don't have our family's video when we went so I really appreciate this. By the way, did you live on 46th ave between 216 and 215th streets, white house on a small hill?
My father flew out of flushing airport on occasion. One day he went up with a roll of toilet paper and when he buzzed our Flushing House he threw the roll out of the plane and it landed right in our backyard so we knew it was him😂 that was probably in the 60s
