I think I'm going to pick one up next week. I saw it a month ago and ended up buying a full size acoustic bass instead for dirt cheap but that little guy has good sound and is loud and it doesn't take up space in my truck when I bring it to work.
The U-Bass has a lot of low end frequency, so I would highly recommend a bass-specific amp. You could technically use a guitar amp and turn the low tone knob all the way down to not hurt the speaker, but the tone will not be enjoyable. Thanks for watching!
These are the Kala silver plated round wound strings. They also make flat wounds as well, which I have on one of my other U-Basses. Thanks for watching!
I am thinking of buying a set of roundwounds to replace my rubber strings, but I am scared off by all the strings that say they only work on Kala U-Basses and no other brands. I have a Harley Benton one. Can I put those strings that say Kala only, or should I avoid them?
There are forums on Reddit and Facebook where people do these types of things and discuss them. I think the most important factors are to make sure the scale length is the same and that the bass has a truss rod. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
Gooday Stephen, if you listen to Peggy Lee singing her hit song "Fever" from 1958 (it's on RU-vid) , it is just her voice and the walking bass line backing her. It is easy to work out the bass notes by ear and a great song to play along with.
Excellent lesson. 29:50 really nailed the walking line. Thanks for showing the process that you use to work through a chord progression to workout a Bass accompaniment. This lesson covers so much and explains volumes of the thought behind the bassists choices. I am sure I’ll watch this again and workout some written notes to fix this to my playing. You’re a great teacher and a groove master. 🎶🤙🏽. Cheers
They have the most attack and mid-high frequencies. If you aren’t bothered by the extra string noise, they are an excellent choice. Thanks for watching!
recently replaced rubber for flat wound and i’m getting a loud click when the string hits the fret. does that get better with time? or is there something to do to lessen that metal on metal click noise?
Is it when you fret the note or when you pluck the note? I’ve noticed a quiet click when pushing the string down on occasion, but if it’s when you are plucking it might be due to the action being slightly too low. Try taking a bit of the high end eq out to see if that lessens the volume of the click enough. Thanks for watching!
I play guitar but want a bass. A friend told me about these portable ukuleles. But then I found those fretless. Do you think it is equal to learn? Thanks! Good video!
The more expensive models with a different pickup like the ebony, exotic mahogany, and other models in that range as well as the solid body models don’t typically have this issue. It’s more common in the entry level models, and I’m not sure if they have solved this issue yet. Thanks for watching!
