Welcome to RJM Music's official RU-vid channel! Here, you'll find tips and tutorials on how to best use our gear, interviews with some of our favorite artists, and FAQs for many of our products.
RJM Music Technology, Inc. was founded in 2003 by Ron Menelli. After playing guitar for many years (and becoming a guitar gear freak in the process), it became clear that there were certain needs in the market that were not being met by existing products. This became the focus of RJM Music and the basis for our product line.
We are best known for our cutting-edge MIDI foot controllers like the Mastermind GT and the Mastermind LT. We are also well known in the pedal board controller market with the Mastermind PBC/10, Mastermind PBC/6X.
Our other products include the Mini Effect Gizmo X, Effect Gizmo, Micro Line Mixer, Multibox and Overture Programmable Analog Pedals.
RJM continues to develop new products with an aim to build the best products possible for musicians.
It'll control a GT1000, no problem. You can select presets, and (I'm fairly sure) that you can also control individual effects in a patch. The GT1000 doesn't support bidirectional features like tuner display or the ability to download preset names, though.
Thank you SO much for using the looper and being able to fully hear each parameter and setting of these pedals! I wish everyone demo'ing gear would do this and not make it about their playing or their guitar/other gear in line haha. Much appreciated and helped me as I wanted to check these pedals out and see if worth the purchase, in the ever never ending search for our 'tone'!
When I’m building presets without the editor by tapping in tempos and using the tempo up and down to get the exact bpm, I hit store and it only saves the tempo that was tapped in, not the tempo that I scrolled to. How would I fix this?
@@MrRunamuckroadiehaha, fair enough. I have to say though, I know it’s a guitar signal split into 3, then sent to whammy pedals, one an octave up and one an octave down, and a signal at normal pitch then sequenced… I just wanted to know what is used to sequence the opening and closing/switching of each signal. I do it in Logic Pro by automating the three channels to turn on and off, but it took a long time to draw that automation in to get the exact correct sequence (especially when it came to lining it up to the grid perfectly 😩). Do you guys use automated sequencing software to control the sequence, or was it done manually, the way I do it in a DAW? If it is a program, is it one that’s commercially available?
@@MrRunamuckroadie Ahh, wow, that's cool! are they still routed through synths like they did in the studio, with the +1 octave sent to a spring reverb? Rich Costey give a bit of a run down of how they did it in studio, but wasn't sure how much of that process carried over to the live situation.
@@MrRunamuckroadie do you think a neural DSP archetype plugin would be more likely, considering Manson and Neural DSPs recent affiliation? Or even some Bellamy patches on cortex cloud?
This is not really anything new. I got a Rolls Patchworks in the 90’s, then I switched to the Ground Control in the early 2000’s. Folks have had MIDI controlled loop switching forever. I still have an RJM rack unit from 12+ years ago. Matrix switchers are where it’s at. I have a couple Sound Sculpture units, but what’s on my board now is the Morningstar ML-10X. Ps:: if anyone wants a Sellah Quartz V2 (I think they’re on V3 now), hit me up…I’ll put it up on Reverb.
Ask any and all questions. I’m happy to help in any way I can, and the RJM forum is a great resource as well. The RJM folks are really active on there, and you can also get answers straight from the source.
I only have the most basic thing RJM makes, the Micro Line Mixer, but I'm absolutely in love with how such a simple thing like it just simply didn't exist before, and how high quality, compact, silent, and well thought-out it is. The most boring device on my pedal board just completely opened up parallel stereo routing and more for me and I love it. People should talk about the stuff this brand makes more!
Hi. I’m a keyboard player/vocalist looking at your products and wondering how I could use them for a rig. I typically run stereo playbacks, stereo out of my keyboard, and stereo out of my vocal effects pedal. I think I heard one of you say the mixer can take stereo line input levels. If I heard correctly, I would just need y-wires to go TRS 1/4” males into the mixer. Am I thinking correctly?
Keyboard player here. Could this be used as a simple mixer for a keyboard and a vocal pedal? I’m wondering if I can carry this around instead of my mixer?
These damn ZOOM slow Video's are seriously difficult to watch 🤬 Ohh well, at least I met Frank & Steve Stevens here in Montreal at Steve's Music shop presented by GODIN Guitars. I have lots of footage, both Video & Audio 😁✌
I did this once at a festival and the sound guy mic'ed both dry & wet amps, but only the wet amp made it to FOH. Reviewing the taped show later on was quite the surprise.
Curious is there a spillover option for presets? Can't get my MIDI questions answered about the switchboard anywhere? Is there some videos that can help? @rjmmusic I bought this specifically to get into midi but can't find any help resources
Spillover isn't a feature the Switchboard has, but you can add it with an external line mixer. Our Micro Line Mixer manual has a diagram showing how to connect it to a switcher like the Switchboard. I don't know of specific MIDI related videos, unfortunately. Fender's supposed to handle all support for this product, but if you have specific questions, I'll answer what I can.
@@rjmmusicI really appreciate that! I really just want to be able to change presets on my Boss RE202 via the switcher using bank mode and MIDI. Can't seem to figure it out via Boss documentation. I'm willing to pay for help with this if that's an option? Thought it would be easier to figure out
@@mykaub All you should have to do is hold the knob down to enter edit mode, then move over to and select the MIDI option. Select MIDI PC messages. Set the PC1 value to the number of the preset you want to recall on the RE-202. Do the same for each preset you're using on the Switchboard.
@@rjmmusicno way! Okay honestly I can't thank you enough for this! Can't believe it's actually that easy the boss literature just confused me. Just tried this and it's not working although I read somewhere that you actually need the boss MIDI cable for some reason, I just bought a cheap one. I'll order the boss one... I'll likely be buying some pro stuff from RJM soon especially the line mixer if that allows me to have spillover! 💙from🇨🇦
@@rjmmusic for anyone wondering, I got this to work AFTER purchasing BOSS' proprietary MIDI cable as the Amazon one I bought did not work. Hope this helps 👍
I am in a Rock Duo like Royal Blood or the Black Keys. I run my bass through 4 amps. I have mostly midi enabled pedals. is there anyway to use this as a master controller for all 4 amps?
If by master controller, you mean that you could connect all 4 amps to it and select which amps are receiving signal, then yes. Just connect the sends of 4 loops to the amps, and don't plug anything into the returns. You can turn any combination of amps on. The only potential issue is that you may encounter hum due to ground loops. To fix it, you would need to flip the ground lift switch on the amp if there is one, or get isolation transformers.
Learned a lot today. Thx for this nice interview. I was wondering how Chad feels about Evertune? Would this be something that he would use or recommend? I mean, when using Evertune, you don't have to put so much time and effort, in tuning guitars.
Will stereo loops in series keep left and right separated throughout the chain? I have a stereo insert loop (one amps preamp, other shorted), into stereo loop (timeline and big sky) into stereo out (going to one amps poweramp, and the other non-fxloop amp).
Yes, a stereo loop will keep left and right separate, and that separation will carry on to the following loops, as long as those loops are also stereo.
@@rjmmusicthanks! I now want to use the rig with the two amps separately, by disabling one of the output and manually switching my timeline to mono. Will that work?
Is there a way to change the default “buffer on” state to have it off completely no matter what preset or loop is turned on? I don’t use loops in a traditional sense meaning, I have one pedal in each loop so loop 1 is pedal 1 and so on. I do NOT want a buffer on.
Yes! In the MEGX Editor, go to Global Defaults in the menu. Under Buffer, find the lock icon and click it to lock it. That will lock the buffer so that it's always off.
@@rjmmusic ok I downloaded the MEGX editor for Mac. I see global defaults/buffer. Do I select buffer OFF then relock so the buffer shows OFF and LOCKED correct?
Can I chain all my pedals even delay and reverb to dry in and then take 2nd output from delay and reverb and go to wet 1 and wet 2? I want delay and reverb on both amps and run in stereo so all effects go out of both amp but I can do ping pong also. Any help will be appreciated
That wouldn't give you the results you wanted. Anything that's coming into the dry input will be sent to both sides, so in a ping-pong situation, you would get one repeat on both sides simultaneously, then the other repeat on only one side. Our recommended wiring, where the dry output feeds the input of stereo effects and the stereo effects go to the wet inputs, will allow you to have real ping-pong delays.
Neither the Switchboard nor the Mini Effect Gizmo support parallel routing on their own, but either could support it if you add a line mixer. It's likely that we'll do a video on using a line mixer for this purpose some time in the future.
@@rjmmusic Can we do the same as your pbc6x and MEGX with the Switchboard in terms of the half normal switch connection yofour switchers employ? I'm assuming I could do sends without returns for wet effects with your mini line mixer
Wow that would be amazing. My only hope is that RJM is planning on releasing a brand new PBC/6X Mk2 in the near future… If they acquired Sound S., their unit would be simply out of this world. If the 6X just had a line mixer for parallel chain.. I have read somewhere though that Sound S. uses a matrix, while RJM uses relays, which keeps the signal intact with no alteration at all. IMO RJM HAS to have a trick on their sleeve because GigRig seems to be more “up do date”, and MusicomLab just released their new EFX-10D for less than $500…
Hey! Do you have any info where I could find how to send Program changes from ableton to Mastermind. I'm getting CC vanlue correct but some other bits are acting weird
I remember Darren when he played with Steve & Paul Johnson in guns n oatcakes, maybe around 2002/2003? He is a great player.. I may be wrong but im sure he had single coils on his strat and i couldn’t believe the enormous sound he got out of it
