Hi there and thanks for checking out my Channel. In case you don't know me yet, let me introduce. My name is Angelo Valkenborgh, born in December 1983 in Maasmechelen, Belgium. Ive been adventuring since 2012 and this in many forms.
I had a periode where i wanted to go back to my primal roots as much as possible , trying to live longer periods in the woods and learn how to BECOME A WILDMAN.
Ive been sharing these adventures since the beginning on Instagram and so started to grow my interest in bushcraft, photography and travel. Since a 4x4 came into my life, things changed so now it's my dog Lana and I togheter with my artistic partner Tjasa and her son. We travel there where feet wont bring us.
Lifestyle made possible by working as a digital nomad for: www.bushcraftshop.nl www.bushcraftexpert.de
Why should a Bushcraft knife handle abuse??? Maybe because you don’t know how to use it properly??? The Mora Companion is the best Bushcraft knife made, I say BUSHCRAFT not Survival! Why baton it? You should have an axe with you, Bushcraft NOT Survival!! You don’t need an overbuilt monstrosity for Bushcraft tasks.
Thanks for your reply Howard, i can assure you that as a former Bushcraft instructor,I really know what a knife is able to do . I disagree that you need an axe to do those tasks. An axe is more heavy to carry around and unless you plan to build shelters, it's often overkill. Less is more. Btw I do agree that Mora is a great bushcraftknife, that's why we use it in our beginners course. I wish you much pleasure into further developing your bushcraft skills and knowledge
if you are going to store the filter wet for a longer time, how do I do it? and does it also apply to carbon filters? in practice storage for a year wet how can it be sterile?
@@AndreasNilssonSweden Hi Andreas, thank you for this good question. This is how I do it. I filter a little bit of tap water. Then I close the waterfilter without pressing the blue button in the bottom. Before that I remove the carbon disk as it is only good for a month when you activate the carbon. When I take the filter out if storage,I first filter some tap water to see if all stull works well, then I press the blue button, remove the filter, install the new charcoal tab and reinstall the filter and again filter little amount of water, just to have the filter standing in water again. I always have some water in the filter to prevent the filter from drying out. Hope this advice helped you, don't hesitate to contact me for follow up. ✌️🤠
@@Becomingwildman thanks for the good answer, it sounds like this is the system I will buy, I currently have an msr miniworks ex which is about 10 years old but I don't think it cleans properly and that it doesn't have an active carbon filter and that it doesn't remove viruses which in itself shouldn't be a problem but better to be safe than sorry.
@@AndreasNilssonSweden indeed, the added carbon disk is great but its not for viruses as the in build filter takes care of that. The carbon is for heavy metals, chemicals and taste but it will never clear it out completely. But still it's more than what other brands offer. I'm mostly using the jerrycan of Lifesaver for many years and I highly recommend this brand.
I don't think you were concerned, regarding pollution..you would have had a different approach to that problem..... you purposely focused on the trash side and aiming that as the main subject... no body is hiding , covering, or denying the fact.. but you went purposely for that... .. by the way borders are still open as we speak
No worries mate, I'm no longer in the country but I'm I hearing you right that you thought I went to the beach just to shoot a video about the trash? Because thats not the case but I'm sorry you feel that way. Still you haven't given me an explanation to why it is what it is and if there is anything anyone is doing about it because and I mean this from the heart, the nature in Albania is stunning and it hurts to see this impact on it. But hey, if you don't care, I must be talking to the wrong person. Have a good one.
I have a few tbs older models, I always replace the stitching on the sheaths as I prefer waxed thread, the thread they use on there's doesn't last long outdoors.
This is completely illegal, driving in the natural environment of the forest is illegal in Slovenia. The road is intended only for forestry workers and land owners. More and more tourists do not respect us, nature, our culture, laws. Camping in the wild is illegal. British drunken disrespectful tourists are a completely different category of unacceptable behavior.
The camping wild part is true, but your allowed to drive on an existing trail in Slovenia. The signs at the beginning of the trail state, enter at own risk. If been living here for 4 years, i know some people in the off road community, im well informed about this and I talk to locals as well. About the British tourist Im clueless, never let any. We practice leave no trace, not even fire pits as many slovenians tend to do. We leave no toilet paper and we never go off track. I believe in setting an example and not to damage nature and I hope to inspire others tho travel well mannered and with the up most respect for the nature. If i would ever see someone do other wise, you may rest assured that I will have a strong talk with them.
@@Becomingwildman Greetings and thanks for the reply! I am a biologist and I work at the Ministry of the Environment and I know all the protected areas and laws in this area in the country - I have fellow biologists everywhere and I am familiar with their local situation. The problem in our country is that there is no control and low punishment. The Brits who live here respect nature more than we Slovenians do. Lately, there have been problems with TET drivers and groups from Austria, who drive through our Natura 2000 forests for the money of their guests. I believe that you are among the people who take care of nature. Unfortunately, too many don't have that attitude.
Thanks a lot for those great videos ! I plan to follow the Pyrénées East-West next month with my 120, can't wait :-). Did you follow a trace, roadbook or other for your trip ? Also any hint at what we should absolutely not miss ? Kind regards, V.
Check out my wikiloc, you will find the trail there. Bilbao was great for visiting and for the rest explore. Is still one of the better trips i have done. Wikiloc is via my url in bio
@@Becomingwildman Hi. I had looked at your wikiloc but can't find the Pyrénées (or Bilbao for that matter). There are only 21 public trails, all located in Belgium, Slovenia or Bosnia and Herzegovinia... Maybe the Pyrénées are private (I often forget to make my trails public on Wikiloc) ? Thanks. V.
Hi, nice to find a fellow Belgian KDJ120 overlander :-). My KDJ120 is not nearly as prepared as yours but I really enjoy every trip. What is the steel plate on the front bumper for (just below the license plate) ? mvg. V.
Hi there mate. Good to have you here. Ah that plate was still from the previous owner,he had a tow hitch connected on the front so he could park his trailers easy. Its gone now but i had it for a long time as it was welded on.
Hello i know you filmed this 2 years ago but i’m wondering by any chance if you still have the map or cordinates of this route. İ would like to travel this one. Thank you
Hey, thanks for reaching out. I actually have it listed on my wikiloc profile so your free to get it. Although a friend of mine attempted this track a year ago and he claimed that it wasn't doable any more so unless your looking for a big challenge, you might want to reconsider
If you do do it, I might even join you or at least I would appreciate to hear how the track is. Any ways, you can also overland the open gravel tracks. Plenty of those there.
I'm sorry for my english. it's google translate. I love your videos and I'm going to Slovenia in the summer. are these routes legal? I wouldn't like to pay the fine. greetings
Hi Gniew. I hope this comes out clear with translation. You are allowed to drive excisting tracka. It's not allowed to travel in groups. Very little control outside of trigkwc nature reserve. What ever you do, make sure your not camping in triglav area. You find my tracks on wikiloc. Link in bio
Ja dat is echt niet bij te houden. Gezien we niet weten wat ras ze is,zijn we heel benieuwd hoe groot ze word. Ons bed is in elk geval te klein aant worden nu 😅
It might not make a difference to anyone but I wanted to mention this. I had a condor selknam that I didn’t like. The selknam sheath however is amazing and it happens to be a perfect fit for my Condor Wayfinder knife. It’s a dangler with a sharpening stone pouch and it has a Ferro rod loop. Near the top of the sheath it has a steal striker for flint and steel. It’s like they made the sheath for this knife. Wayfinder knife with selknam sheath.
I want to thank you for this added info. I destroyed the standard sheath and was wondering if there is a good fit out there. So I'm very happy you mentioned this. Thanks, have a good one
@@Becomingwildman no problem I’m glad it was helpful. Since you mentioned you destroyed the other sheath I will add that the selknams sheath is thinner leather.
Hi, thanks for reviewing the knife for us! I would have a question for you regarding the second sheath (the one with the flap) beiing : If you would carry the sheath upside down, like a leftie would do it, would that solve the issue about the knife falling out?
Thanks for your question. I wouldn't do that, that sheath has a cut on the side of the entrance, but I'm using that sheath now,all I did was put an extra lock on it so now I can use that sheath with a tight fit and the flap is adjustable for 2 sizes of knives. I may make a video just about that.
Tbs has left handed sheaths. So that saves you the trouble 😉 and I do like it now even though I kind of burnt it to the ground in this vid. I recommend you looking into it. Where are you from? You can contact bushcraftshop.nl if your not from England or America
@@fox15jk that's because it's a special order,we don't carry stock. Just send a message to the customer care, make an account. They will arrange it for you and order it at Tbs. Might take 2 or 3 weeks. I'm not working now but probably your request will end up on my desk 😉🤠
Hi man, thanks for the indepth look! There isn't very much content on these knives out there it seems but yours is the best video I've come across that covers this knife! I don't suppose you know if the MkII Timberwolf fits the sheath any better?
@Becomingwildman thanks for the quick reply. It is a smart and cheaper way to do it. Otherwise, one has to buy a nudge bar. Nudge bar in my country costs the same as the most expensive spotlights. Tell me, haven't you noticed any cracks on the standard plastic bumper? How long is the stabilizer plate at the back? Is it from one hole to another or each hole has its small plate kinda like a washer?
@Becomingwildman I'm also not a fan but I do feel like I need better lights as I don't have any protection upfront at night. We have the 2007 prado. Clocked 400,000 km in the week. Bought it new.
To fix the sheath retention issues i got some tennis racket handle tape off amazon, cut a 2 inch section off and stuck it to the inside of the sheath where the knife handle contacts the leather , once buttoned up its in there and staying there . Cheap fix .
@@BecomingwildmanHope the advice serves you well buddy. I've had the same piece in nearly a year now and I scout carry with no issues at all . I used the rest of the grip tape to wrap my kukri and still had some left over for future use on the wolverine.
Great preview, and fantastic footage. What camera are you using. Looking to upgrade from GoPro, but having trouble deciding what to get first, camera or a drone.
Hi, I had a GoPro 8 I think. It kept going dead and then had to take out battery to refer. This year I used drone in combination with a DJI gimble 2, the gimble is great but does overheat easy. Also not waterproof as the GoPro. I'm looking into 360camera as my girlfriend will have her motorbike soon.
Looks Amazing, Bosnia is such a cool place to explore. Last Month traveled a lot on and offroad through Bosnia with our Lc78. Im curious where to find this statue ? best regards
Thanks for the video, I've got a couple of questions: Do the carbon filters reduce flow rate when they need to be replaced or just lose effectiveness? How much force do you need to use to detach the hoses? I wouldn't want them to fall off while using if they got bumped or something. Did the filter cartridge come in foil? I saw on their site they say unused shelf life for filters is "at least 10 years if foil sealed", 3-5 years otherwise.
Hey, thanks for those great questions. The carbon filter will impact flowrate when they are more then overdue for replacement. They loose there effect after a month in use but later it will start to impact flow rate. You don't always need the carbon,it's more for chemicals and heavy metals so it's not always needed depending on your water source. The hoses are firm attached so no worries there so far, maybe after some years they loose there strength but I would just cut of that part. The filter is pre installed so shelf life is between 3 to 5 years so if you buy this with prepping in mind,I highly recommend getting an extra sealed filter and extra carbon discs. I hope I answered all your questions, let me know if there is something more I can do for you. I wouldn't mind a thumbs up on the video and maybe even a follow 😁 greetings,Angelo
In my experience with knives, I only use carbon steel blade knives they are easy to sharpen and will throw a spark with a Ferro rod or a piece of Flint, several of my knives are made from 3V steel which is harder to sharpen in the field but once sharp they stay sharp for a long time and the effort to sharpen them is worth the end result
I would like to take the time to say thankyou for your sharing of knowledge with bushcraft and survival skills, I have learned mostly from trial and error and these videos have shown me a lot that has helped me out over the years, other than watching my favorite oldie western station on TV, I live most of my life like it was still the 17/1800s, . I spent most of my time in a camp somewhere out in the woods or on the river but even my home is a one room cabin with just a few lights and TV, I heat with wood and also cook on the woodstove during winter and mostly outside during summer, I love it and would not trade for a mansion with all modern convenience. It's my choice in life and it's what makes me and my wife happy, but anyway, thankyou for your help with these videos, you keep them coming and I'll keep watching
Hi John, thank you for you message. It sounds like an absolute dream and actually really like how you do it. Are you sharing this on any platform so I can follow as well? Greetings Angelo
Short easy answer I'd put a couple holes in flap and use a couple rivets to shorten the distance in the sheath flap. No its not perfect but what I'd do to make it work. Or maybe pack cloth in bottom of Sheath so knife rides higher
Sitting in AL which is southern US 3 months after video aired I'd be so happy to see weather like that. Actually I'd like to see that kinda weather any time of the year here. Just found your videos and am enjoying them. Thanks
