Would be nice to see the "science" which underpins the navel gazing here. Science is based on statistically significant empirical data, not navel gazing. There exists no statistically significant empirical data of any kind which supports the claim that CO2 liberated and returned to the climate cycle by the actions of man during the last 200 years can in any measurable way be shown to be responsible for all or any part of the current welcome warming, the fourth such warming in recent human history. No empirical data, no science QED.

Great vid, I don’t think!!! 😡 Who did your tutoring, a fascist? The Earth is safe, doesn’t need our tinkering with the climate. If we mess-up the CO2 level , we’re dead meat as it is the lowest in 450,000 years!!! Get your brains round stopping air, ground and water toxicity, instead. THAT IS A REAL PROBLEM 😡🇬🇧

We can only do this if we work together, thats probably the biggest challenge, in a time of extreme positions and general distrust, where people dig in their heels rather than try to compromise, i just feel slightly disillusioned in that area, education is important too, i think a lot of the distrust and fear comes from pople not really having a clue what is going on. Look how easy Trump has convinced people that he is working for them, its because they dont have a clue what is really going on outside of their tiny little world.

Im watching from Melbourne, it got to about 39celcius here today ,stinking hot, but even when its 25 and you go out in the sun it feels hotter, very dry weve already had some pretty destructive fires in western Victoria, the summers are getting later too. Luckily i have air-conditioning, its full on.

The Climate has always been under change. We need CO2. The Climate agenda is just to add more taxes and control us more. Slaugther our healthy cows so big WEF corps. Can buy up land. Most CO2 comes from the oceans,Volcano's.

All that he is saying was useful in 2010 or earlier. Things have gotten way worse, way more than he can comprehend. Chomsky did us all a great favor - to never trust your government and always show the middle finger to any authority.

Exactly the same thing we were told about the climate 40 years ago. We were told the planet was done by the year 2000 if we didn’t stop using fossil fuels. The glaciers were melting, the oceans were rising blah blah blah. The bottom line is science on this is very sketchy and has historically been absolutely wrong! As one who lives in Asia I can tell you nobody over here even cares so no matter what the west does it’s going to have a very negligible effect in any event while making life miserable for westerners while the East thrives! I’ll live my life out in the East thank you. They’re a hell of a lot smarter than the morons running America and Europe! Most Americans have no idea how far they’ve fallen relative to the rest of the world - especially Asia and SE Asia.

4 years later. The USA has been creating Wars, one of them with Russia (Poor you) and it's declared an Economic War with China. All this is DISTRACTING THE PEOPLE. We've never been so close to a Nuclear War, and of course people worry about that . The USA is the most Hated Country in the world. The USA are responsible for every day we are NOT doing anything to END FOSSIL FUELS USE. The Chinese have the Best EVs in the world, 20,000.miles of High SPEED 🚄 Trains and all sorts of renewable energies. Yet in the F*g USA, there are still millions of people who don't believe, care or KNOW what Global Warming is. 💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥 Damn you !!

Kate, I can't say that I agree with everything that was presented here but I am a little disappointed that it didn't get more views and comments. This is the best video (by far) that tries to address the "existential threat" issue. Climate change is certainly an important issue, but certainly not the only issue facing our future. How much of our resources are dedicated to mitigating it as opposed to adapting to it is to me the biggest question. Thanks

the difference with the 30s, and in Europe it is exactly the same in this, is that in the 30s there was the USSR, and lots of Communist Parties in the world that promised a revolution like the Bolsheviks, which had happened, and that scared to millionaires. In the USA the New Deal was a movement to avoid a revolution like the one in Russia or the fascist alternative (the American elites financed Hitler) In Europe fascism triumphed, but after World War II, to silence the siren songs of the USSR (Stalin won World War II against Hitler) social democracy was imposed (until the 90s, just when the USSR fell) Today the threat of fascism returns, but we do not have a red terror as a counterpoint. We need red terror.

In the very near future, drought and heat will make it impossible to grow grains at scale, and billions of people will die. Shortly afterward, wet bulb temperatures will become intolerable to mammalian life, and humans go extinct. This is not hyperbole. Simply look at the trends in energy usage and the extent to which rapacious capitalists are fighting every attempt to mitigate climate change.

Remember kids, CO2 is now a pollutant. Solar and wind is NOT green in any way. Energy demand will explode as the internet of things is implemented. AND… THE IPCC is a political organization only hiring “scientists” who support the “Co2 is the baddie” agenda.

Surprisingly all scholars together with the more willingly ignorant elite avoid the roots of the problem which is excess consumption, the very foundation of modern economy and the cause of its destructiveness. You've got to understand that it's the average Joe, the vaste majority of people, who funds (through work and spending) and make possible every company in existence and therefore all consequences following a corporate and consumption based economy. Consumption of the populus is the driver of increased corporate power and the destruction of life and environment caused by the modern economic system and socioculturally based notions of said system. The economy is sustained by the worker, transforming into consumer - both leading to corporate profits invested by the corporate realm into increased power, expansion and following environmental destruction and decrease of power for the people. This has been true since the dawn of so called civilization. Only when people realize their fundamental role and consequences in the destructive system and stop consumption beyond what they actually need and transform need-based consumption into local, non-corporate, circular and sustainable systems of trade, is change possible. It's not logical, in the global consumption based economy, to ignore the responsiblity and role of the consumer, who is the very backbone and funder of the system. Politicians and their rich masters aren't gonna change, the question is; will the overconsuming massesw who vote for them and fund them? If not, there will be no change. People now have exceptional possibilities to kill the highly destructive system, to inform and form new local, green and sustainable circular economic systems which will exclude and empoverish the current system elite, thus take back both power and economic initiative to the people and transform the formers systems destructiveness into sustainability. With this change in the understanding of basic human needs and economic transformation, comes less need to work, empowering the work force as a whole through basic market laws and empowering the people as a whole. To change the root cause of the problem, a deprogramming of the masses, likely including scholars and education, and their notions of the need for excess consumtion, is crucial. Bottomline: You can't change the system long term - history has shown it's not only ineffective but also contra productive, leaving you running in the same destructive wheel, be it in a slower pace or with the right to more rest, wages or whatever, for a brief period, but with no fundamental change which causes the underlying triggers (greed) of the system to eventually kick back in and put you back in what you once thought you'd changed for the better. You must leave the system all together, and just by saying no to that destructive product you've been indoctrinated to think you need - that's overthrowing the system if people starts doing it on a massive scale. That's shaping a whole new system. The hard part is deprogramming people out of the systems mental hold, therein probably lies both the key issue and solution which decides humanitys future.

He's off the mark wrt having the necessary solutions to address the crisis, the solutions currently exist. And net zero is also misleading as the only thing that counts is cumulative emissions, and at the current rate the UK will exceed its 1.5°C carbon budget in the next 3 years!

When Chomsky mentions (around 35:00) this period of working class intellectual culture, he finds a parallel in British Society -- detailed beautifully in a book he has mentioned a few times, called "The Intellectual Life of The British Working Class" by Jonathan Rose. The closest thing I've seen to People's History of Autodidactism that there is, a hearty read.
