I think setting structure of a story according to page number count is like telling which car is better according to their color. Totally useless and made for Hollywood producers who then got screenwriters infected by this 😂 and Parasite matches beautifully kishotenketsu structure with this massive-mega twist in the middle of the film. That’s why all the western structures fail - this film seems like two separate movies (even in genre) from the moment of the mega-twist.
I personally loved the shaky cam and the editing choices. The beginning scenes where Katniss is in district 12 really drives home the disorientation, her anxiety, and the just rawness of the atmosphere. It's adds to the environment to the point where I can feel the wind, the morning air, and the despair shown through the shots of other people. When Katniss enters the train, again the colorless environment just feels so much more real and shows her disconnect and disassociation/discomfort with where she is. Katniss speaks very little, she's stubborn and reluctant at first and this is shown through the spotty editing, shakiness, and color gradient; when she becomes more confident, things flow more smoothly and the audience grows more comfortable with her.

You are right about the age. I watched the first one soon after it came out. My life is kinda a parallel with the characters and perhaps even the actors in the similar way. This makes me able to appreciate all the three movies even more ( I don’t think I would resonate with the second definitely not the third one before marriage and kids)
Here's how I'd begin the intro can stay the same we get the scene where katara Drops watter on sokka's head sokka like it is in the show sokka with an okka anyway sokka actually gets wet and sase in a very funny tone why everytime you play with magic watter powers i get wet kattara responds bassicly everything goes how it did in the show they find ang who's dress like how giyatso was Dress in the show and we cut to a blank screen that sase chapter 1 boy in the iceberg
some people might have found it boring. But I can’t believe i did not know about these movies until a few weeks ago. I felt totally connected and the first one did feel like a first date that would never end and you felt like you could talk for hours on end. Very relatable.
I don't know if you knew this, but the 1st one is based on a real experience of the director (it was in the US and not in Europe). So the 2nd one is even sadder because it's how he imagined that reunion. 😢
i feel like a lot of people that absolutely obliterated this book in bad reviews is exactly why suzanne wrote it. i was already in the minority when i read mockingjay and absolutely loved it more than the first two books. so many people regard it as boring because it didn’t feature a hunger games… the whole point of the trilogy was about how the hunger games are bad. the ballad of songbirds and snakes dives so much further into that debate and just war theory. it’s a great read if you find political philosophy fascinating.
I didn’t think I was intrested in this book or this story, but on a road trip I downloaded the audiobook cause I just wanted a companion (an audio story helps with long boring highway drives) And I was so encapsulated. Brilliant story. Can’t wait for the film.
The same thing happened to me, I didn't read the book because of all the bad reviews and because the protagonist was Snow (I was afraid I would be disappointed with the handling of the character). However, after the second movie trailer I decided to read it. I finished it a few days ago and I must say that I am pleasantly surprised, I found it very interesting and the author definitely included very debatable and political topics like in Mockingjay (which i love) as all the events of the 10th HG are post war consecuences. I hope more people give the book and the movie a chance, the author has improved her writing too and is a ballad so the story have plenty of songs.
Personally, and surprisingly, I was fascinated by snow, and all the other characters. We don’t actually get to know what happened that made snow so terrible. We caught the beginnings of it, and the girl, Lucy gray I think triggered everything. Idk, I’m going to re read and annotate the whole series to get a better grasp, because like you as an adult I feel like my ideas and views on it are so different now. I would have like to see what happened to snow as a child, and the ending did indeed feel rushed. I gave it four stars for that. It was like a flipped switch. That’s how fast things turned and ended💀 What I REALLY wanted was to see the first rebel war, and what lead up to it! Another reason why it got four stars.
I totally agree with you in regards to fans wanting more movies based on other victors , and their games. Yes, the quarter quells need to be featured in upcoming movies. Haymitch’s quell MUST be a movie! Having said that , we as HG fans need to flock to , and pack the theaters so that movie makers see there still a large interest in them.
i think this trilogy is the certain type of movies that needs to be seen in the right age and the right mood. i liked how blissfully pretentious both of the charcters were (esepcially he was) in the first film, then how they changed and yet still stayed the same people. it didn't resonate with me as much as i thought it would though, maybe i'm too cynic to believe in this story. also throughout the first film i couldn't escape the thought of "girl RUN he'll use you", which kind of spoiled the experience
Honestly I think that this was the perfect story for a prequel. It gives some great lore on the begining of the games which was very interesting to learn about. Plus, I think that snow was a great character to dive into. His draw to power, his moral compass, and his backstory were more compelling to me than a story about a tribute that we already knew. I feel that a story of haymitch, finnick, Annie, Johanna etc, would have been too similar to katniss in their hate for the capitol, their distain for the games and their drive for revenge. They would make for a great collection of shorter stories, snippets of their lives but overall it would be too similar to the original trilogy. Getting this point of view in my opinion, strengthens the trilogy and the reasonings behind katniss AND snows decisions in them. It’s gives insight on why he is who he is and why he’s so opposed to katniss. It sewes the seeds of the future coreolanus and overall made for a good story. While I don’t think it was as good as the trilogy, I did enjoy it and I appreciated the addition to the series
Ok how does this only get 1k views. Most of the shows with so many seasons that it turns bad are mostly English speaking show if you look at all the shows you mentioned are most of them are english speaking shows and most are from the USA and the chances of them only going for the money is still lower then others and finishing the season as its last and it being good are still higher then most
I really enjoyed the book! It was just fascinating to be inside Snows head and see the way he thinks. How he is able to rationalise his behaviour towards others within passages disputing with himself. I honestly think Suzanne Collins pulled it off so well and I honestly would like to read more! And I believe Snow to be an unreliable narrator but I would have loved to understand Lucy Gray more deeply. I think focusing on Snow the way Suzanne did made her fall flat. But yet again, to Snow she was a flat person. He wasn't interested in her being a flawed or faceted person. So it makes sense to me that she fell so flat
I honestly couldn't agree more with a video. My GOD this show has so much shit to work through to actually be a good show it's insane the amount of hype it's getting. It's like 50 shades of grey all over again, because the main seller is the sexual tension and it gets really old really fast
THat video was super impactful for me as well. I always watch it when I am writing academic essays, not because of the content but because of the speed and asmr and the whole active writing atmosphere!
I always thought it was quite ironic and shocking even how all of these people thirst after seeing these violent games on screen without ANY self reflection. Like, there's literally people out there who would want to see EVERY victor's games we know of. That is just CRAZY to me. Just like you said, NONE of the books are actually about the games!
Great video. Community can never receive enough love. And you’ll have to forgive the Abed in me, but Goodfella’s is from 1990? Yes, some of it takes place in the 70s, but film making is classic 90s Scorsese.
I love the fact that people have been DYING for a Haymitch story, and Suzanne Collins was all like, “I hear y’all, but imma give you something that none of y’all asked for because I have something to SAY” it is a treat that she even a gave us another HG book, which we will most likely never see another one but I don’t wanna jinx it bc you never know 🤷🏾♀️ but I honestly really like the book. The first time I read it, yes, it was a bit of a chore to get through the first half, but it picked up halfway through and I thought the execution was extremely well done. It might be the English major in me as to why I loved the book, but I was skeptical going into it was well when reading it for the first time because of those damn reviews. But I never try to let other people’s opinions decipher my choices of reading a book or not, and this one didn’t disappoint.
I love your review but my only qualm is how you say the haldi scene is south asian when south asian culture is very vast and many of us don’t do the same cultural rituals. I think the distinction is important to make as to not make all of south asian culture a monolith
Spoilers but not too much. I am a Polin shipper and am excited for their season, but wish they took out the cousin that was not in the books. In season 1, she was broke after her husband gambled everything and died. It made sense for her to take over the family and find a quick rich scheme which is why the father gambled in the first place. People do things when they are desperate. I just wish we focused more on her relationship with Penelope. She looks down on her and has no faith in her whatsoever which is why Colin defends Penelope. This should have been set up in this season. We can see Penelope using her career to separate herself and earn her wealth while seeing Colin treat her as a friend again instead of the stupid “you din’t count line”. He could stand by her while she struggles talking to her mom. I feel she is becoming more confident due to being Lady Whistledown, but I would not mind Colin her gain confidence when she stands up to her mother.
I watched both seasons and enjoyed them both...however, I absolutely loved the breakdown of your views because you were so on point with the same questions, observations, frustrations and views about each character. I was definitely with you on scenes that were drawn out for no apparent reason...I abhored the character of Eloise, until I thought about my own relationship with my sister ..lol!!!..and while I agreed with you about Edwina's selfishness towards Kate when she finally realized Kate's love for Anthony, I thought she was quite wise and awesome...not just about the words she spoke to calm the scene involving the awkward moment with the king, but also her words to Kate in the instance of NOT liking the women she & her sister had been playing, and again at the last ball when she told Kate to be the woman she really is and to be happy. BTW ... I'm NOT David, I'm his better half..he asked to to be sure and add this note because he was in NO WISE interested in this movie and he never would be because he's strictly a SCI-FI guy...(as if anyone cared is my sentiment) ...LOL!!!😂😂😂
