Jason, it is so funny that you brought up Deep, dark and dangerous, by Hahn as I was just talking to U about her in email. I have read EVERY single book she has published. Ghost👻 🩸stories are my all time favorite HORROR trope, in fact I will send you a creepy pic of 'ours that lives with us' that I snapped just a couple months back here in the house one morning when I could not sleep! And, being someone in my 60's, I have read A LOOOOOttttttt of them! Have you seen the movie version of 'Wait Till Helen Comes?'. It is streaming all over the place, it was done quite good. NOT as great as Lifetime did on the V.C. Andrews movies. Whoa, now those were GREATLY done! Take care J! Richard 👻
The out-of-focus effect on Stephen King's Just After Sunset hurts my eyes. What were they thinking? Vintage sci-fi can often have some amazing cover art. My favorite covers of all time might be the work of Mick Wiggins for the Penguin Classics run of John Steinbeck's novels. I considered buying prints of those illustrations and hanging them on my wall. They're that good.
Thanks for the awesome comment. I have to admit I didn't know who Mick Wiggins was so I had to look him up. Glad I did, he's incredible. Thanks. I like the old Vintage paperback covers like around 2003, of PKD books.
OMG @1:14 I lost it! Too funny and SO true about a cover of a horror novel!! If I don't like the cover......i won't pick up the book! lol. Well, not ALL the time.....lol. Saul's "Punish the Sinners" is a GREAT cover! and that is his 2nd book....silly man. He was a personal friend of mine when we still lived in Seattle. Plus, that copy of 'Floating Dragon' i would LOVE to have that version of the cover. I had the blue foiled cover and never got it back after I loaned it. It is a GREAT novel too....very creepy to read now a days. I JUST got done listening to the audiobook last week, and it was done very well. I SO SO miss books with Set Back Art like from the 80's and 90's! I can't stand Grady Hendrix's works or him as a person. With you loving YA horror.....You MUST read anything from Mary Downing Hahn! I ve done the reviews of so many of her works on my channel. I will guarantee you will love her work. Hope you had a great Friday the 13th yesterday!! Stay SCARED buddy....Richard
Yo Richard, my man! How's it going! Good to hear from you. I remember you and him were friends and don't you have almost all his books signed? Lucky. As much as I love him the cover of Punish the Sinners just doesn't do it for me, but that's how it goes sometimes. I do like Hahn. I've read a lot of her books and enjoyed every one. And right, second book. I'll tell you what...email me and give me your address and I'll send you that copy of Floating Dragon. Good to hear from you and thanks for the awesome comment. You rock. My email is jasonsinferno@yahoo.com.
@@Sunnyvalereject24 Whoa, Jason, that is NOT (seriously....lol) the reason I said that. But I'll email you. Yes, I have ALL his hardbacks, and paperbacks signed and personalized. I tell him all the time that 'the HORROR comm NEEDS and wants you back!' Plus, I will see if I can attach something special in that email.... Richard
I remember as a teenager browsing the books at Howard Brothers and the shelves were full of Doc Savage paperbacks. Those were the most eye candy covers ever! But having enough money for just one book I always bought a western. But those Doc Savage covers were the best. The Faulkner cover and the Ann Rice cover were my favorites. Nice..and ugly video! -James
@@Sunnyvalereject24. Since you mentioned that I googled Doc Savage book covers and they are as awesome as I remember! Oh I wish I had bought them instead of Westerns!
@@Sunnyvalereject24 I've read Monster. If you liked Visitor you'll like Monster:) By the way I was at the airport in Austin, Texas last week and they had a copy of Blameforest.
You mention having a “good literary foundation”. That could make for an interesting video. What is a good literary foundation? What is yours? How does that improve/impact your reading experience, movies, life, etc.
Another great list. 2 out 5 this time. I sometimes feel guilty for reading crime novels instead of literature but I guess it's all about what we get from the story. Lawrence Block is to New York what Chandler is to LA. I love the Matthew Scudder novels, they have a great Irish feel to them and of course Scudder is an alcoholic. I never really understood AA until I read these books.
I really liked this video, great delivery. I've only read two, Toole and Faulkner. I think Light in August by Faulkner, Suttree by McCarthy are my favourite books. I am trying to get through Crime and Punishment but it's tough going.
Dan is back in the house with another little comment! :D John Saul is looking like Dr. Loomis in that jacket on the back of Right Hand. Always fun to watch you talk books. I recently picked up Chandler's Farewell My Lovely based on your praise for it.
I have that Sewer Soup book too! I haven't started it yet, but it definitely seems like a really wild book! Can't wait to read it! Thanks for sharing your collection!!
Hey my friend. Good to hear from you. You're the only one who has ever mentioned that book so rock on! I haven't started it yet either but I just know it's gonna be good. I like the title and the cover is cool.
I really need to read more Shivers books! I've read The curse of the New Kid, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?, The Haunting House, and Terror on Troll Mountain - they were all pretty good except for The Haunting House, which had one of the dumbest laugh out loud finales ever!!
Cool tbr list, I'm hoping to read The Prom Queen sometime this month or in October. It's been so hot lately I haven't been reading as much but hopefully soon fall will be here and I'll definitely be reading more, also love the Italy jersey.
Salem's Lot is on my Halloween reading list. Believe it or not I haven't ever read it or seen the movie. I'm looking forward to reading it. I just can't find any R L Stine books in good shape. And, I have about 10 William Johnstone books that I haven't read. The reviews are mixed. Some like him Most don't. Another Solid video. -James
Oh man....you're gonna love it. I love the original Salem's Lot movie too. Damn it was scary. You can find Fear Street books on PangoBooks. It's a good site. I have to put together a Halloween list too. So many books....so little time. Have a great day James. And thank you .
Oh boy...you've got a few books to read an only a few months left. Which books will you read next? Great video, by the way, and I do tell my friends to check you out...and your books:)
@@Sunnyvalereject24 I've been on the hunt for faulkner around local libraries, i don't purchase online i like the old school hunt for physical media. There's only one faulkner book at my closest library it's a short stories compilation, I believe "Old Man" is one of the stories. Looked interesting... it's high on my list to check out next visit.
Right on. I can understand that. Here's an option too. I have some Faulkner books for sale myself. I have a bookstore on PangoBooks. It's called House of Horrors @left-hook-books. If interested I'll drop the price of them to $1 for you. You'd just have to pay shipping. It's like $4.99. just an option. I have the Portable Faulkner, As I Lay Dying. Both have some underlining. I also have Absalom, Absalom listed.
Brilliant video! So many great choices in that stack. I was convinced there was no such thing as a fun book when I was in middle/high school. Nobody ever took the time to show me stuff like this!
Hey Zach, thanks so much. Now that I think about it, I didn't have anybody trying to get me into books much and the stuff we read in school made me not want to read at all. My mom tried, I guess, but no teacher. That's why we read so much now I guess ...got a lot of make-up reading to do.
