Welcome to Travel with Mick. I work in the travel industry and get to travel fairly often for work. I also have a passion for photography, hiking, bush craft, wood carving and fishing and want to share my travels based around these things.
So glad you enjoyed it. I hope you get to do it next year. Make sure you book the dates you want when they open up the 2025 bookings as it can sell out
Nice spot if you like crowded camp grounds. I no longer go to National Parks due to the bureaucracy and nanny state mindset. State forests are better but they are being taken over by NPWS. When I was a kid you could camp anywhere in the park so long as you got a permit. Now I find Crown Land where I can duck off teh road, set up camp and not be bothered. Nicely produced video. Liked and subbed.
Thanks for taking the time to write a comment. It is a pretty crowded place but still a fun little very easy overnight adventure. Guess we have to get out and explore more places to find those little slices of paradise. Thanks for subscribing
@@travelwithmick I'm looking forward to watching your videos. This Friday I'm back up the Blaxland ridge area for a quiet overnighter. Close to home and yet peaceful as. Cheers, Perry
Great loadout. Gauze and leukotape could replace the bandaids and duct tape. Emergency bandage ( often called Israeli bandage) are great multipurpose, lightweight options for first aid kit. (stop the bleed/sprains and strains etc)
Thank for checking it out and for taking the time to comment. I have been refining my first aid items and I have been taking gauze and leukotape out on the trail with me recently. So totally agree with you on that. I carry snake bandages now too and they can double for sprains and to stop bleeding etc. thanks again and happy hiking
@@travelwithmick I'm an Aussie, this video is something I think everyone of us should be taught in school. Until I did a snake awareness/basic snakebite first aid workshop, I thought the bandage was supposed to slow blood flow. **Blush**. It's important not to cut off circulation. The snakebite bandages with the squares, that I've tested are basically useless. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Z_K3fDRdq7A.htmlsi=H3Ac5LLkqw2NQ_Ba I highly recommend you practice wrapping with them, you will quickly find the correct pressure is probably not the squares.
Great that you are getting into it. There are so many tents on the market and it really depends on your budget. The Marmot Tungsten Ultralight 2-Person Tent is a great option. I also have this tent. The reason I have the 3P is because I go hiking with my wife and we are both over 6ft tall so the extra space inside is great and means we can bring gear inside if we want. Only tricky thing with a 3P is that it is big so can sometimes be a challenge finding a big piece of flat ground to set up on. Hope that helps
Yeah I did look at that, there are a few I'm looking at, saw someone selling a Blackwolf Grasshopper cheap but am unsure. I will look at the Marmot as well, thanks for getting back to me mate. Ah yep I thought it may be that you were using for 2 people. Definately helpful, thanks.
@@travelwithmick let me just clarify that I got a whole lot more out of your video. I’m going to be broke but I’m changing up my gear to UL as much as possible. Thanks again.
Cheers Mick, glad I stumbled on you channel, always great to see all the huts up in the high country, awesome hike and keen to check your other video, good luck, subscribed 🙂
Thanks for this. Some great ideas, I'll be trying the Mayo, avocado and Mexican rice for burritos with Chipotle sauce and pork floss (dehydrated shredded pork in soy sauce from Asian stores). Being Asian I shop a lot in Asian stores where there's a lot of dehydrated items. Great for longer trips and keeping costs down. Plenty of options from Korean, Thai, Philippines, viets etc. The dried Mango are amazing for snacks and to include in your breakfast. For breakfast I usually have Vietnamese Coffee with condense milk in those toothpaste squeeze bottle and chia seed overnight oats with shredded coconut and fruit. Weight wise its spot on, as 3 tbsp chia makes up 3/4 cup which is plenty for me. These meals are always a highlight for our hikes. And while id love a beer I never feel comfortable drinking when I hike alone. Needing to be more alert.
Nice one Mick, Budawangs have been on my bucket list for years and still haven't made it out there. Well apart from climbing Pigeon House. Loved the morning fog, Fog is my favourite haha. Cheers!
@@travelwithmick oh man, I watched your Jagungal trip as well last night just didn’t get around to commenting. You must have been there just before me. Derschkos is now grey, they painted it the weekend I was there. You’re right about O’keefes, I wasn’t even that excited to visit O’keefes but now I have I think it’s one of my favourites, I think it is my favourite actually! So cool!
Having watched all of your videos I know there are so many huts you have visited, so that’s a big call. I do agree. It’s just even how the door handle opens and closes that makes it cool
Great vid thanks! I did the 135km Cape to Cape in WA last September. I have a lot of the same hiking gear as you. The Helinox chair was a game changer!!! Curious as to what your total pack weight was?
Thank for checking out my gear video. Cape to Cape is in my list. I love that WA coastline. I think my base weight is around 6.5kg then plus water and food for the number of days I’m going out for. Plus camera equipment for filming which most people don’t carry!!!
Yep we have and use the footprint. It has been good in wet weather and allowed us to pack down the inner and keep that dry then pack the wet fly and footprint last
This is an absolutely wonderful experience. The landscape, the surrounding sounds, and overall the experience to connect more with nature is like a healing power that I have been looking for. As someone who got stuck too much in the city and lost kind an adventurous soul, I truly appreciate this. Thank you and wish you all the best :)
I am so glad that you enjoyed this. Nature is my healer, relaxer and stress reliever too. It’s never too late to get out there in nature any way you can. Have a great day
Thanks Mick. I'm an absolute novice so this sort of information is very useful. I'm doing a test hike this weekend and camping in the back yard to test all the gear I've got so far. Watching your video has increased my list of items I still need. ;-)
Hello Mick, I was wondering whether you did this as a solo walk and then you said we, and then at 19:33 your partner shows up. Great editing and great adventure. We did this walk 23 years ago and we are about to embark on this adventure again. You got some beautiful days. Some great editing. Loved coming on your adventure Mick, thank you for sharing. For us its coming up shortly and we are excited.
Hi. Not solo on the Overland Track adventure. There was actually three of us walking together. I bet after 23 years the track will be the same but quite different. Especially now with the new huts. Have a great time and thanks for watching my video
Great video mate! Disappointingly impressive amount of rubbish you carried out, also impressive you had a garbage bag that big with you to carry it all!
I have done a lot hiking in the past and on golden rule i have, that i leave no trace of being there and that include taking my owen rubbish back with me. If everyone did that there would be no problem. Gerard, Nsw Audtralia.
