Sherman Alexie great book, his screenwriting and Chris Eyre's direction made a real breakthrough movie in '98 with an amazing indigenous cast of fine players and of course some good nonnative cast as well. At the time it was one of the finest and truest fictional movie made about our first nations and their lives.
I remember seeing this for the for the first time in Flagstaff AZ. My wife and I let to get there early to get the best seat. Before you know every seat was filled. My wife looked around and said, "We're surrounded by Indians." I said, "What do you mean WE white woman." Everyone heard this and laughed.
That moment at the end where Margaret looks up and then over always made me wonder if she, too, had a miscarriage, but chose not to tell Brenda about it.
I grew up on this movie and it always bothered me how much these two girls look exactly like two of my sisters. Like exact doppelgangers. I started to think it was my childhood imagination, but nah i still struggling to tell the difference between my sisters and them
No one could have played Margaret better than Joanna Cassidy!! She was a huge scene stealer. And always hysterical!! Besides Frances Conroy she was my favorite character.
Got to meet Evan Adams (Thomas) once. He's super down to earth and kind. Just a remarkable individual. I've heard Elaine Miles (the woman driving the car) is very friendly too.
"And once in every fucking blue moon they bring out the best in each other" Well this is it. The fucking blue moon. And the timing couldn't be better, too!
