It's not a problem that our cats have had, not sure if it's from design or cat personality, but if it ended up being a problem I don't think it would be to difficult to make a flap at the front to encourage them to move further in
This is very lovely! Do you think pleats would have worked as well, instead of the gathering? I am worried, that the gathering would add too much bulk to a wool-flanell (I am a short person, I don't want the dress to overwhelm me)
I think pleats would work great. To be honest I was originally going to do pleats but just didn't want to do the math to figure out pleat width and spacing.
@@JaneyJane_sews I think I ended up sticking with 3/8 for this one, but generally I start with the pattern seam allowance then adjust after trying on based on fit.
When interfacing a collar I always sew with the interfaced side up. That way the feed dogs will pull in the fabric especially with a wrinkly fabric like double gauze.
It looks nice and comfy. Skirt lined also? Whats a good way to wear a dress and keep legs warm? Have added extra fabric or trim when had clothing that was too short, like a pale red ochre slight ruffle of flannel. TY
I didn't line this skirt since I was worried about the weight of the flannel, but this one is pretty good with leggings and tall boots. I usually wear cashmere blend tights with wool socks and boots. Mariah Pattie has a good video on keeping warm in the winter. With different traditional layering options.
@@2BumblingIdiots Thanks--was originally The School of Mines, so the hat on the M & school color orange & black 😂. Not unlike Colorado's School of Mines & a bit of rivalry over the years...
Yes, you had a supervisor--or i referred to one of mine as a shop steward, to remind me to take breaks!! Lovely jumper dress--agree a little less gathering/fullness for next one, but like where the waist sits & bodice fits. Nice!
@@2BumblingIdiots haven’t opened it yet to see what it can do so you helped me twice. I had huge berman cats many moons ago and had to make my own box and did something similar but no cover. Considering a kitten that i can travel with so i need something for travel, this could be made for travel with a second box. Got me thinking now. :)
I grew up wearing things very similar to this. It's classic, it's conservative, it's modest, you picked pretty fabric...great job! I do agree with the longer length 😊
I love how hearty they are! Never have to worry about those internals breaking. I lucked out that my grandma wanted to upgrade to a self threading model and gave me this one.
The colour and the style look so lovely on you! Apart from making it shorter, this is the perfect dress for me, but I need to get my butt in gear and start learning to sew properly again.
Thanks! The nice part about the pattern is that the designer has a RU-vid video going through all the different pattern options. I found that really helpful when I was getting back into sewing.
Nice work. After watching this I think I will make a button down pinnie with some green check fabric in my stash. I agree with a little more length. I love your cat. Please make more sewing videos with your cat. At least I know what sort of thing I will be in for when I do get my own home and a cat.
@@zoekins5 Don't forget to practice test your stitches with some of your leftover fabric. I usually have to do some adjustment every time I switch fabrics. Otherwise I think you'll be surprised how forgiving the fabric is.
Cute top. I didn't notice you making an adjustment to the length of the top, but yours seems longer than other Donny tops I've seen. Also your neckline looks higher. Did you make any changes there? I'm 5'2" and if like to be able to tuck my top in, so I'm curious about you're experience. Thanks
No I didn't change the length on this one, I think just the back adjustment. I'm 5'3" with most of my height in my torso so I think you should be able to tuck it in with the standard length. I did raise the neckline but forgot to include that. You could just move the mark you sew to a bit higher but I recommend flattening the curve below that mark. If you look at the original pattern it's straight up until the mark where the collar starts then it curves out, I recommend extending how far it stays straight for so it doesn't bulge out when it is sewing closed. Not sure if that makes sense but if it doesn't let me know and I can reply on my computer instead of thumbing this on my phone.
First off, we love your channel name 🤩 secondly we have made multiple worm bins from totes and have always just used black duct tape for those sharp edges 😅 never thought of a heat gun or our nifty oscillating tool. This video was super real not skipping over the hard parts but explaining your actual process 😆
I'm so glad you liked it! That's completely what I was going for. Something we've ended up adding later on was cutting some ventilation holes and using carbon filter to help with smell. Its been very effective in case you run into that problem with the worm bins.
Thanks for the feedback! I've stopped speeding up the video in later videos, so hopefully those are easier to follow. I'm still working on the balance of useful vs boring.
