Father Bakers was the only place for orphaned boys. My father in law was bitter about the treatment that they received from the evil nuns. He was bitter against the Catholic Church for life. We attended CCD classes and the nuns would threaten us with going to Father Baker’s if we misbehaved.
My grandpa worked for the IRC (railcar company). We had a picture of him in his white and red striped jacket and pork pie hat. Playing in the company band. He was an Italian immigrant and lived on 7th street.
Thanks for sharing!! (Liked & Subscribed) This is amazing to see...We used to frequent Crystal Beach amusement park and even went as a family on their last day open. I still live on the west side, on West Ferry. 💛

Kelly's Korner in North Buffalo has the biggest, inexpensive, best Beef on weck. Haven't been in so long I wonder if they're still open. *Auto correct wanted it to say "Been on Deck" LOL
Shirl, what beautiful photos. So it was Maisy's birthday. I missed it because my notebook was partially disconnected. I am back on again. Hope her birthday was the best ever. Sounds as if she certainly got much attention. 🎉❤🎉
I grew up in South Buffalo but my Gramps lived on/Near W. Ferry... I remember when the Mafia ran the city... Not talkin about the Bflo. Bills :) early 70ies
Wow .. I know Jason Streicher from Kenmore West & just happened upon this channel randomly & as fate would dictate, I recognized his face from the thumbnail pic & the last name solidified it. WOW 🙌🏼🐻
Mac Doel’s Restaurant was my favorite place to hang out in downtown. I grew up in Eggertsville……..so many good memories of living in Buffalo. Thanks for the great old photos.
Same. Massachusetts ave. Zips corner store, JC Park, walking to Teds by the bridge to get hotdogs and lemon ice. My twin brothers were born so we moved to Orchard Park but I can still remember the street lights coming on and my ma yelling “Christofuh time to come in! Dominic and Antonee time to go home!”
I grew up there and my Mom grew up in the West side, Plymouth Avenue. Buffalo has squandered its historical treasures due to horrific leadership. A geologist I knew years ago in the late 1990’s told me how the City hired the firm he worked for to excavate the foot of Main Street at the end of the Erie Canal. Below street level many artifacts were uncovered from an earlier era. Historical treasures, when presented to the City, the firm was told to just “bury it”. Any City in the country would die to have this type of historical treasure, not Buffalo. So I am not surprised they are tearing things that are irreplaceable down. That is what the “leadership” does.
Great to see - especially McDowell's entrance of the famous Drum Bar! Does anyone remember Leonardo's? It haunts my dreams! The Grotto and those wonderful murals on the second floor. Were they scenes from Operas? Hugs from Fort Erie!
I, too, am a product of the West Side of Buffalo - although I'm a product of the 70s, I grew up on the West Side of Buffalo too. I attended School 3 on Niagara, and after that School 18. I've since moved out of state; but I remember Crystal Beach - also Fantasy Island - and OMG - FREDDIES DOUGHNTS!!!!!! My heart sank when I heard that it had ceased operations. My grandfather bought a home on Fillmore back in the 40s or 50s, back when the neighborhood was beautiful - not too far from the science museum; I remember playing on what in my toddler mind was a giant hill in front of a church, it's front lawn, really, down the block from the house on Fillmore. When I was a young girl, my parents had a place on Prospect, and then we moved to Busti. So many memories in the first 3 minutes - if I go on this comment will be too long, as it is already lol; thanks for this.
