I think you are perhaps naive when you detach Survive's reputation and known and acknowledged business practices from the discussion. When one considers an allegation of misconduct, it is not merely logical but in my opinion obligatory to consider these things when one party in a dispute makes *unusual and unique to them* allegations against another party which has no such history of reputational issues for misconduct and questionable business practices.
@transparentknives
@transparentknives 7 дней назад
I see where you're coming from, but I believe that in cases like this physical evidence supercedes reputation. Survive had pictures and video evidence of oddities in some of the steel, which have now been corroborated by other knife makers and companies who do not have the same reputational issues (Oz Machine Co, Grimsmo, Machinewise, Assassin, Eutsler, for example). Those makers have had some issues with MagnaCut here and there, and all have stellar reputations.
@chuckschillingvideos
@chuckschillingvideos 7 дней назад
@@transparentknives I'm not saying it's conclusive and that Survive's side should be summarily dismissed. What I am saying is that their reputation has to be a consideration when their claim is not facially obvious. Because it strikes me that this case arose not over the properties of Magnacut but because of the business failure and a likely attempt to deflect attention from that failure to shift blame to a supplier. That is MY opinion only, but I think it's supportable and reasonable.
@transparentknives
@transparentknives 7 дней назад
@@chuckschillingvideos I agree to some extent. I believe that regardless of whether or not there were issues with MagnaCut, Survive was going to go bankrupt due to psat business practices and massive backlog of orders. I was strictly talking about what the likelihood was that there were actually problems with MagnaCut at some point from the manufacturer/roller. I do think your opinion is reasonable.

I have a Brian Brown raptor made by Reate and like that knife so i picked up an Exone to check out. I agree with your review its just OK at best and probably be returning it because I know I will never carry or use it. The hollow grind is not as thin as some of the older Civivis. the crazy jimping and painted liners I’m not a fan of but I knew those things looking from the pictures but my biggest gripe is the fuller were the top edge fades out it is so sharp it can cut you! It literally feels like a sharpened edge because it gets so thin fading out they should’ve just carried it all the way down the spine. Suppose it could be knocked down with a ceramic rod but i’m just not feeling the Exone as I have plenty of other nicer blades. For someone who just needs an affordable edc it is fine though and the hollow ground Wharnie would be great for that.

So I do actually still buy civivi's for work. They are good enough to work and cheap enough if I break or lose it it's not a big deal. I do construction so I'm very hard on my work knives

Picked this one up a few weeks ago and thought it was just okay too. Aside from Civivi's exceptional fit and finish and the satisfying reverse flick from any length on the fuller, it really was just kind of bland. I will say that the knife can in fact be disassembled with both Wiha torx soft-finish screwdrivers and also basic Wiha torx bits w/ standard driver without having to remove the pocket clips T6 screws prior to the T8 body; it's a snug fit but you can safely get the crown of the torx bit head flush into the screw and then also rotate it sufficiently. Thanks for your thoughts and the video bro.

Ya it’s fine Sometimes the budget blade’s just have really nice looks and will sucker me in even knowing what I’m getting right now I love the looks of the bestechman cicada wing even knowing the stop pin is like 4 sharpenings from the edge but dang it looks good Meanwhile I’ve got a tote with a bunch of knives that I carry 5% of the time and a beloved spyderco police 4 k390 that lives in my pocket the other 95% because well it just works for me Good talk love your work Bye now

I thought this was the best budget knife ever by how many people I've seen put custom cf scales on them that costs more than the knife. Also try using the Utsler neutralizer for your scraping needs, its works great for that.

@pateralus9

Just this week I fixed my Kunwu Tao II centering, & this morning I fixed my Herman Sting centering. I did both of these by slightly bending each scale separately. I thought about using heat to make the titanium more ductile, but that turned out not to be necessary for either knife. I just used a pair of vice grips & a double-folded rubber gripper to protect my ano work, then pressed one half of the scale against my soldering mat on my dresser. Worked like a charm. I'm particularly impressed with the results on the Tao II since the blade was pretty far off-center. Now, these instances did not include any warped blades. So, I can see how your method would work for warped blades. I do have a Civivi Shredder in Damascus where the hollow grind comes to such thinness in the middle of the blade's height, that a previous owner actually bent the blade trying to pull it out of a cut. For this knife, I was able to bend that portion of the blade back to nearly true just by using needlenose pliers. But that knife is like 0.009 behind the edge, & the material is just so thin that it's easy to bend back. I did use a heat gun for that one. Anyway, this is some great info for times where the paper trick isn't good enough. Same for bending the scales on a knife without blade warp. I've had the paper trick fail me more than it's worked for me, so having alternatives is incredibly useful!
@transparentknives
@transparentknives Месяц назад
Yep you're absolutely right that scales being warped can be the cause of off-centering instead.
@BladeLabMiami
@BladeLabMiami Месяц назад
Great info. I think it would probably be advisable to wear safety glasses when using clamps to bend the blade, right? Because it's very unlikely to break, but if it does, it could send steel shards flying at a high rate of speed.
