This recipe uses heavy cream for a richer taste and skips the need for a roux (flour and butter mixture) since it's microwave-friendly. Milk wouldn't thicken the sauce quite as well. :(
I was served a dish with that shaved bonito flakes on my food at a Japanese restaurant. It was so freaky and repellant to me. Those flakes move like live worms on top of your hot food. to this day, it gives me the shudders when I think of it.
Good technique except there really is no reason to let the egg/potato mix sit in that bowl for 20 minutes. As soon as it's well mixed, pour it back into the pan and continue as shown in the video.
hello. I came across this by chance and it looks so delicious. Since I also watch a cooking channel, I watched it with more interest. thank you I'll subscribe 😊
Just tried this recipe. Had enough ingredients for just the sauce with tuna and it tasted pretty good. I was wondering if the amount of salt was for table salt or kosher salt. I used kosher salt and didn’t have any problems.
This is challenging to find but do try to seek out imported Japanese Okonomiyaki flour mix or Korean pancake mix. Secret ingredient? The former has potato yam flour in it and the latter has guar gum - both add a slight jelly like effect - nice 😊
That's odd, because I even managed to make it with half-and-half. I suspect it might be the temperature setting. For some ovens, baking at 425°F (218°C) for 15 minutes might work better. Thanks for trying it out!
