(Open letter to Victoria :) Half the cyclists riding the wrong way (left side of road) other half riding correctly, what could go wrong ?) Everything. How about a four lane arterial, car drivers in curb lane going correctly but those in middle lanes going wrong, opposite directions. Another way to complicate, increase accidents. I know it's better for all cyclists to be on the right side of the road, but I'm not a noncyclist who wants to keep cyclists out of traffic lanes. without seeing how that disrupts traffic. And know real cyclists will make left turns like motorcyclists and car drivers, by moving into the left lane, signaling and turning. If you think motorcyclists would turn like car drivers, did it occur to you that e-bikes (motor-cycles) would also do that? And some cyclists on the right side, some on wrong side, some like drivers, further complicates a complicated mess?
Since when do cyclists dismount to use crosswalks? They just ride across and hope for the best. They don't see stop signs either, so those light bulbs are going to last forever.
I'm wondering what act, regulations or bylaw says vehicles must yield to a crossride (especially when the crossride faces a stop. Sign), or gives a crossride any legal meaning whatsoever in BC? The Active Transportation Design Guide says: "Cross-rides are not currently defined in the B.C. MVA, meaning that they have no legal status [...]" and "Crossride markings typically do not provide legal rightof-way on their own - signage such as the Turning Vehicles Yield to Bicycles sign (MUTCDC RB-37) is also usually required. However, cross-ride markings help to reinforce the right-of-way of bicycle through movements over turning motor vehicles."
I think this is a great idea that is better for businesses and residents. It would benefit everybody in Victoria however in addition to this I would also like to see stoplights replaced with 2 lane roundabouts to ease the flow of traffic and simply make the streets more attractive and safe
My choice of mayor came second. The new mayor is concentrated on housing more housing and more housing. No "affordable" in front of that. No mental health and addictions and no concern for our health system. No inflation fix either. Another Lisa Helps it seems . Sad! Where are the medications for our kids. Congrats Vancouver!! Right guy for the job!!
stop destroying our trees ..to build unnaffordable housing ...whose idea is it to bring more and more people here to victoria ? there are no doctors for these many families ?..the developers are the ones that want this and city councellors need to go away on a long holiday ..hey why not build a huge 36 floor condo building on the site of the parking lot for the parliament workers, they should all be carpooling anyway !

It's terrible, i'm supposed to watch for pedestrians on a right hand turn but the bike path is obfuscated with parked cars. How the hell am i supposed to watch for that?
The water should be on the outside in either a large zip lock bag or a trash bag to protect everything else from leaking if that occurs. This video was not well done for seniors. It was a little hard to see and a narrator would have been more helpful in my opinion.

Who is going to pay for all of this? We have bigger issues in this city like: drugs, alcohol, crime, homelessness, corrupt business owners, corrupt politicians, people suffering with depression and suicide and businesses that can't find employees and the city council wants to spend more tax payer money on something we don't actually critically need??? As a driver in this city, I have been paying tax on our streets for 35 years and continue to do so and I will be damned if I am going to pay tax on any street that I can not use. The City of Victoria council are selfish entitled people that only thing about themselves and money. They don't actually care about the locals at all. It's all about their selfishness.

Let’s do it! But how bout you guys come to an agreement to have vendor spaces along the outside of the building. It’s in the harbour, there’s lots of markets in the area, this could be a new hub. Some thing for the big local businesses, and something for the small local buisnesses
Is there a committee or person that oversees the budget and where it goes to make sure our taxes are actually being used properly? As in a seperate entity that would say follow the police and see if they actually need a bigger budget or if they in fact just need to have things streamlined to make sure the money is spent properly?

This is complete rubbish. City Hall and some of its planners have swallowed the kool-aid in mass quantities....we already have more than ample evidence that increasing densities and bulldozing single-family homes and all the vegetation, does NOT alleviate rising housing prices or rents, ( affordability), and does NOT provide relief in ' accessibility", either. This is nothing but a blatant lie perpetrated by the Redevelopment industries, a self-serving lie which flies in the face of nearly 52 years of consecutive evidence from places like Metro Vancouver where continuous "growth' and rising populations densities have since the early 1980's, have only exacerbated all of the problems that soke people think is being solved by building more housing stock.....The numbers are very clear and speak for themselves - when you telepgraph to the rest of the world that Victoria is open for business / bulldozing and we can't wait to welcome even more towers, condos, townhouses and get rid of the green space, heritage, and access for public transit and zero-emission vehicles...it WILL result in rapid changes to our physical landscape which one might add, will make the environmental crises worse. There will be far more people here, all paying more for their living quarters than ever before, and everyone wil be saddled with more debt, pollution, fear, crime, stress, noise, ennui, mental health and addiction issues. We wil be repeating the exact same mistakes that have beset other communities, and which are easily identified and evaluated, since they are well documented.
I've been cycling for over 40 years, and I find these bike boxes terribly confusing... especially when I'm supposed to make u-turns in the bike lane. I really like this effort to make room for cyclists and include them as a normal part of road traffic, but I'm not convinced this is the best solution for how cyclists should handle an intersection.
