Established in 1911, The University of Tennessee Health Science Center aims to improve human health through education, research, clinical care and public service. The UT Health Science Center campuses include colleges of Allied Health Sciences, Dentistry, Graduate Health Sciences, Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy. Patient care, professional education and research are carried out at hospitals and other clinical sites across Tennessee. When I started medical school at the UTHSC, Memphis, in September 1971, there was no initial White Coat Ceremony. After M3, we were told to go to some local uniform shop, purchase a white coat, and have our names stitched on before we entered the clinical clerkships in M4. There was no ceremony there, either. After we finished Gross Anatomy, there was no ceremony to honor our cadavers. There were no simulation labs, no GEB, and no programs for board prep. Of course, the USMLE steps were not in vogue when we finished in December 1974 after 3 years and 3 months of year-round training. The licensing exam was the three-day FLEX. Seems that the medical school has added many new, desirable amenties that were very sadly lacking in my day.

It is inspiring to see the evolution of UTHSC since my time at the College of Medicine's Memphis campus (1992-1996) and the move to not only keep pace with but also embrace and optimize technology for the training of future physicians. I recieved a superior education and I am reassured that my alma mater continues its committment to medical training excellence.
I’m becoming very interested in self-care, something I never used to pay attention to or find very important. As I grow older and more stress enters my life, I have come to appreciate self-care and I realize it’s power over stress and anxiety.

Come on....as an RN...I could Intern now anywhere with 10 years of nursing experience and learn this stuff. Any hospitals in Albany, NY could train me in a matter of weeks.....period. Not that hard to learn. It's just a game of getting more and more education....fueling the "door openings" that only open after spending another 30-100K of one's money.
I have ten years of nursing experience...and actually....should have gone into IT....or stayed with it. What can I do...understanding EMR's now...with experience in RN work and a year of IT/health work on different EMR platforms now...without further "college" paid coursework?
