The Haftorah Channel was created to assist those who need help learning their Haftorah for their Bar Mitzvah Parsha. I know that sometimes hiring teachers or getting tapes can be expensive or just doesn't work best for you. This channel is created for those who want to learn their Bar Mitzvah Parsha's Haftorah from my videos and have easy access to it on RU-vid.
I also have a video going over all the cantillation notes slowly and clearly. Check it out below as that is the best first step to learning a Haftorah:
Please feel free to ask me any questions or suggest a Haftorah for me to upload. I hope that this helps people throughout the world learn their Haftorah, so when it comes to your big day, you will thrive and look back and be happy that you were able to read it.
Happy to have found your page, you read them just how I learned them. What is the name of this minhag, because in general I don't hear anyone else read this way.
In the second verse (verse 11) there are 3 pazers in a row. This seems very unusual to me, do you have any understanding why this is? i might add that I have been asked to pitch in and read this hafatorah this week and your recording has been very useful. Thanks.
so (a) is the actual note (interval) that you are cantillating those on the actual notes to use? (i.e. the first one would be a Bb, etc)? A number of those seemed to have start on the same interval but then some others did not. (b) I'm guessing your 'notes' are written in Hebrew script rather than block type; I don't know recognize any of those characters (I've only been learning Hebrew for a few months) - would it be possible for you to produce them in block type?. I wasn't aware that there were that many symbols; a guy at our synagogue was showing me some of this, and he said that there are really only 5 or 6 symbols used in haftorah, but in Torah there are many more. Are you listing all of the symbols for all of Torah cantillation, or only those of haftorah?
Thank you, good reading, been asked to do this this year so a great resource. A couple of suggestions: 1- the preamble could be in a separate video so that if you want to listen multiple times you can just go back to the beginning rather than having to skip a bit of the way in 2 - would be great if there was a link to a picture of the text to follow along with. I'll dig out my machzor at some point but would be even better if i had it online to follow along Just minor suggestions, thanks again for putting this up, really helpful
I am a novice lainer and have found the above video very helpful for preparation of my mother-in-law’s Yarhzeit. Thank you so much for making this available! Dr. Michael Wexler Minneapolis
A question for you when Jewish pass by Church, Hindu temple or Pagoda what Tefilot I have they should says and what's the tefillah called ? Shabbat shalom
I’m sorry if there was any impression that I’m not wearing one. This video was taken while I was in Yeshiva in Israel. I can assure you a Kippah was worn. Also, Haftorah troupe isn’t that much different from regular torah troupe. I guess it’s what you’re used to hearing. It’s definitely different, but there are similarities. :-)
There are multiple reasons why a Haftorah is chosen to be read with a given Parsha. In Vayeira, we learn a lot about Avraham and his compassion for others in his generation. We learn a similar parallel for Elisha in his generation similar to the Avraham. We see the kindness and selflessness of Elisha expressed in the text of the Haftorah. I highly recommend reading the English translation of the Haftorah to really see how much Elisha embodies caring for others, so similar to Avraham.
Dear Binyomin, It's the first time in many years that I cannot use your recording to learn how to chant. You chant haftorot so beauyifully and part of it is that it's done slowly, with every taam distinct and clear. To learn them from your chanting is always pleasure. Instead of speeding up through all 12 chapters why, oh, why you didn't break it in 3 recordings and chant them with the same pace you take us through haftorot! Any hope you would do it sometimes? Chag Sukkot sameach.
I'm so so sorry that this video was too fast. I will see if I can upload another video of all 12. I prefer not to break up the video, but can try to upload a new video if I can. Please accept my sincerest apologies that this video was harder for you to follow than the others.
Is there a difference between the Conservative movement's trope sound and those of Ashkenazi Orthodox Jews? I'm Conservative...trying to learn this one as it's fairly short.
Actually, this haftorah is also done for the 7th day of Passover. Thanks for this recording. I appreciate this specific trope you use. Reminds me of how I did haftorahs, when I was growing up in Annapolis, MD in the 1970's.
Whenever I read the haftarah, I look for your reading and watch your video. I am preparing for Parshat Terumah, but cannot find a video for that. Would you be able to upload a video for Parshat Terumah? You chant haftarah beautifully!
Thanks so much for the feedback. For Parshat Terumah, we actually read from Parshat Shekalim last week ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ez4rP2Dw-5c.html This week we will be reading from Parshat Zachor as it is the Shabbat before Purim. Will try to upload that Haftorah later today.
