I mainly followed the official route apart from a detour up Pic Negre (which I think is now closed) and a diversion to get a new tyre after the puncture on day 4. I did ride about 50KMs more on day 1 to get to a campsite and the final day I rode the last 60KM of day 4 which I'd missed due to the puncture situation!
You park sideways in the carriage and leave it in gear on the side stand and hop off, they wobble a bit but never seen one fall over, that doesn't stop me holding on to the bike till it gets going though!
Hi Viamatt, realise this is an old video but wanted to get in touch. I have just bought an old k650 and know very little so far about these bikes. Wonder if you could share the starting procedure with me. Many thanks Fraser
Hi, I turn the fuel on, tickle the carbs till fuel comes out, couple of kicks with ignition off to pull some fuel in then a good kick with ignition on and it usually starts first go. If it’s cold, chokes up, otherwise I do t find it needs much choke.
@@viamatt5958 thanks for getting back to me. Am I correct in thinking the choke is on the air pipe going into the carb on the left hand side? I’ll give it a shot ! Many thanks
@@fraserwhite73 depends on the set up, but yep, if there is a pipe going to the central air filter, that will choke the air intake. You might also have little handles on the carbs, but only on the later models I think.
Join the TRF and you get access to a map of byways, then a bit of time to join them together. TRF groups will generally have people willing to lead rides too. best 50 quid you’ll spend :)
They seem to have changed the routine again….it used to be that the bikes went on first as they were the quickest to get out of the way upon arrival in Calais….now we have to wait until every other dopey sod has left the train! Once again, bikers get zero respect!
In Denmark we have similar, but not as quite as complicated systems before entering some of our Major bridges (We just drive through, eventually with a "Special Electronic Device" (BroBizz), which will automatically accept paying for the ride and by that, is opening the entrance boom), besides we are able to drive for ourselves, and may do it at any time, if wanted! Not needing to wait for a ferry or in this case, a "Train"! We only slows down a little during the passing of the payment entrance. And the coming new, purely Danish built and financed, 18 km tunnel to Germany, also below the water (To take over from the present ferries), it will be for both trains and cars to drive for themselves in the new Fehmarn tunnel, all the way. And of course we have made - no problems for ourselves, with having to change side in which to drive, during the coming ride! This may be more easy, when leaving a ferry or - train at one point!
I went on Le Shuttle in 2006 (memories.lol) on my bike. Fantastic experience. Riding tho the shuttle carriages was like going thro an alleyway. So when all vehicles were secure, it was time for departure. It was so smooth moving off. I didn't realise we were moving. We were in France before u knew it. On arrival, it felt like it was a movie set. As I hadn't left the shore by boat (so it felt like I hadn't left the country). It was a weird feeling. I then rode into Calais an found a place to stay overnight. Set off for Paris the next day, ready for an even bigger adventure. Then I flew to Italy for The Italian Motorcycle show in Milan. Stayed in the area for 3 days, visiting the show from 10am till 10pm on the second day. Then back to the UK. What a trip, loved it!
Loved that seagull just resting on the ground, not giving a damn! Oh and by the looks of that motorcycle lane image, you should have been riding a 2 stroke!
I have used the tunnel by bike a few times, but seeing it from another rider's perspective was good. I am also surprised about the distance ridden before getting onto the train.
Hi, I'd be interested in your thoughts of the insta360 as a 'dashcam' camera. Having a 360 degree recording would be brilliant for police/ insurance reviews in the event of a vehicle driving into you. Though, I understand that the battery life is very limited? Have you any experience with the Drift Ghost XL? These can be picked up for £110 so for less than an Insta360, one could fit one Drift pointing forwards and another backwards - giving good or even better footage for general recording of trips?
Battery life is very limited and I’ve not found a waterproof usb pass through door, mounting locations so you get good visibility is a problem too. I happen to work in the vehicle insurance industry so this was a purchase to see how it worked in that exact environment and it’s not a good option. I have a GoPro 10 running from USB on the handlebar at all times so have some coverage forward. Drift Ghost is next one to test :)
