There's recently been a story going around about how some scientists used recordings of whale song to engage a Humpback in what they describe as a conversation They're calling it a first. I think of this song.
Ken Hicks, who wrote and is singing this song passed on on January 2, 2023...surrounded by by all the good people he loved. Wind at your back my friend
Was Ken Big Daddy? If so, I remember him from the Escape CoffeeHouse in 1968. Bob? Well, he's a legend, and a nice guy. Knew him from Songmakers of Va. :)
Watching the show CHiPs helped guide me to a career in Public Safety, first as a Security Police officer in the Air Force and then as a Public Safety officer at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
"The Mercury program was over. Four years later, astronaut Gus Grissom was killed, along with astronauts White and Chaffee, when fire swept through their Apollo capsule. But on that glorious day in May 1963, Gordo Cooper went higher, farther, and faster than any other American - 22 complete orbits around the world; he was the last American ever to go into space alone. And for a brief moment, Gordo Cooper became the greatest pilot anyone had ever seen."

Adrian Whitcomb Your missing an important opportunity here. I will try to enlighten you one more time about an historic Skirmish that took place along the beach during Benedict Arnold march to Warwick Town. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hQbaFh0pZi8.html
Back in the 70's they were constructing a highway through the 1600's section of Philadelphia PA. This was a tunnel section so a lot of dirt was excavated. Combing through the spoils excavations we found tons of broken onion bottles but never a whole one, it's still on my bucket list. Simultaneously while this dig was going on there was major construction going on in Madagascar, the pirate capital of the Indian Ocean. The dug up SO many onion bottles that the market flooded and prices dropped like a rock. The excavation in Philadelphia wasn't all a bust though, we did come away with our share of Spanish and colonial coinage. Then one day they dug up 3 cannons, that's when digging stopped, fences went up and security was hired. Our scavenging days came to an abrupt stop. You wouldn't happen to know of anyone who has a working time machine do you?
This song hurts me a little. Not because I don't love The Right Stuff and its soundtrack, but because it brings out the little nationalist in me who still believes in liberty and the American way and has pride for his nation and salutes his flag. The Space Race was one of the high points in human history and in national pride. Things have changed, but that patriotic ten year old in me still has a voice. He's just very quiet most of the time.
Corn and tobacco are native to the Americas not Africa. They were able to stabilize the crops because they was natives of the Americas not Africa. The lies must end now. The fairy tales are easily dismissed.
Thank you, Adrian, for posting this. I knew Robin 50 years ago and, to this day, whenever I hear a lovely guitar piece he used to play, I'm suddenly 14 all over again. 😊
Actuality you can get two signs, one for the Washington Rochambeau National Revolutionary Route National Historic Trail. The next sign that I ask Warwick County Historical Society about the Skirmish on a beach at Riverview Farm Park. Mary Kayaselcuk from Newport News Historical Services e-mailed me that she would pass along my suggestion to the committee for adding a historic panel at Riverview. The skirmish was between Captain Johann Ewald Hessian Jaegers, the Queens Rangers who landed on a beach at Riverview. The Warwick County Militia engaged them on the beach. The only question where Colonial John Grave Simcoe the leader of the Queens Rangers during the skirmish? After the action subsided General Benedict Arnold marched in with 1,500 British Troops to meet with Captain Johann Ewald. The next day the Warwick County Militia attacked again, but Benedict Arnold was under orders to not engaged with the Virginia Militia to avoid any defeats. Also the Queens Rangers, and Hessians returned fire while loading their boats on the beach to row out to the British Navy Ships in the river for the trip to Richmond. Adrian Whitcomb there is a very interesting opportunity to celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution during the ribbon cutting ceremony for the waterfront trails in 2026. Have the historic marker unveiling during the ribbon cutting with maybe the Yorktown Fife and Drums playing a few tunes from that Revolutionary War period. Also, the archaeologist recommendations will be important. Build a Visitor Center to also be an Interpretive Center too. Then will let the City of Newport News place Warwick Town on the National Register OF Historic Places.
