Initially, I will be sharing information about cruise ship jobs (through the company I currently work for - Mexicrew Maritime Services in partnership with the Apollo Group), the application process, sourcing documents and useful information while on board.
After that we'll see where it goes. Thank you for joining me 😊
Hi Jemar. You first need to be assigned an employee ID number. This you will see on your Letter of Employment once you have an assignment (a date to join the ship)
Hi. Thank you for your message. Yes, persons who wish to work at sea must have or be willing to do the safety certification course (referred to as STCW and it includes several different courses based on the position on board). NOTE: Different companies have different requirements, and some will allow you to do all when you actually reach on board the ship or do 1 on land and the others on the ship (it depends on the ship company). Unfortunately, our ship companies do not have that option available to crew. I hope this helps.

As at January 2023 - the average cost that Jamaican candidates reportedly spent to source their documents for our cruise lines is about JMD 210000. This includes: STCW Certification from Caribbean Maritime Institute (USD825), US C1D Visa from the US Embassy (USD160), Seamans Book from the Passport Office (JMD1500 OR 3500), Pre-employment Medical from Gwest, Montego Bay or Oxford Medical, Kingston (average JMD 50,000). PLEASE DO NOT APPLY if you are not financially able to source the documents. All ship companies require that you get certain documents before you are able to join. Most of these documents will be at your cost, some of the costs the ship companies will provide a refund for - this will depend on the specific ship company. However, some companies require more documents than others to ensure they are getting the right candidates for their operations. The companies that we hire for have their own requirements, which we, as the agency have to follow. The requirements are set by the hiring companies and we recruit persons for them based on those set instructions. Note: we do not ever charge our candidates for our services, we only guide you in the process of sourcing the documents needed by the hiring company so you can join the ship. If ship work is something you are interested in, then I suggest you research other ship companies to see which will work best for you and within your personal budget.

So glad to have watched this! I always think that travel is made easier when you have the best travel gear and essentials too. The bento bag from Nomad Lane is my best carry-on bag for travels like this. Thought I'd share it with you, too! :)
