Bikes have been my passion all my life. started riding at 13 years old over 55 years ago. Still riding still have exactly the same passion for anything on two wheels but especially motorbikes. Competed in off road events for 12 years and was a part time instructor for 5 years. At 53 decided to retire and travel the world, mostly by motorcycle but also campervan so far with my amazing wife we've travelled on 5 continents and approximately 60 plus countries including riding my motorcycle to Mt Everest base camp in Tibet. New to RU-vid as I'm an old fella but hoping to get better. Please Enjoy
JustChasingRainbows yeah that's the tyres, they're not that bad all the time but on certain road surfaces especially in the Highlands they can be very noisy. To be honest they are so good I can tolerate the noise, but obviously some people wouldn't be able to tolerate it. FB 👍
@@Skuffy1969 Hi, I tend to run 2 or 3 psi under the recommended pressure (36F 42R) Have quite an aggressive riding style and find the slightly lower pressure gives me better grip. Will increase to recommended if I have a pillion. 👍FB
Thanks for the video. I just got about 8500km on my Raids. I have a 2010 1200gsa. I love everything about these tires except I can't stand the noise. The farther I went, the louder they got. I was unbearable, so I'm trying something else.
Hi, I ride a ktm1290 SAS , do you think the rear raid can manage 5k miles on a tour if riding sensible half of the time? Also do you get 6k miles out of a road 6?
@markworthington1710 Yeah I would think so I reckon I could do it if I needed to. There are plenty of guys on RU-vid reckon they get over 7000 out of them. Not me😊. Just put a set of Michelin 6 on for a 3000 mile Europe trip next 2 weeks they'll do 5500/6000. 👍FB
@@forestboy54 oh wow! Didn’t know the road 6’s would do that mileage! I like the raids for the 1290 as they look very rugged lol but they’re meant to grip great and just hope they last 4500-5000 miles 😅
I’ve found the combination of Held Summer WP gloves + Heated grips to work wonderfully well down to 25 degF (approx -4 degC, even in rain). Fortunately that is good enough for year round rain here. I also found that the big thick gloves restrict bloodflow and increase nerve issues for me.
Magic review! You were proper throwing it down those tracks - love it! Sadly, can’t do that up in Scotland but probably just as well as I’d probably drop mine. You thought about doing some servicing yourself? I did oil, filter, air filter, spark plugs and final drive for around £136 with decent kit from Nippy Normans. Final drive oil will last another 4 changes as well. A doddle if you take your time and read the manual.
@tom1893. Thank you mate appreciate the comments. Was an off road competitor for many years and still enjoy the odd foray off road. Yes I have done servicing on many bikes and my lad is a mechanic, unfortunately being a new bike it seems prudent to use the dealer while in warranty. 👍FB
@@forestboy54 Explains your mad skills! 😂 I was wincing watching you fly through the pot holes. Aye, I did wonder about the BMW warranty and stuff - makes sense to let them do things in the meantime. Looking forward to the next one. Ride safe. 🤘🏻🏍️💨🏴🏴
Really ??? So that’s the front and now the rears effectively back to pre 2022 spec ? ie A normal traditional plain old fashion Orange only indicator 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤛
@@ImJensenKing thanks , I’ll check it out . They’ll be thousands of GS lads sleeping happy tonight knowing finally there’s a fix for such a crazy dangerous design
Nice sounding audio! We’re currently researching audio solutions for our channel, as you know audio with the Osmo 4 can be a nightmare! We’ve just bought this mic and waiting for it to be delivered but we’re off travelling for a month in a a couple of days so we’ve got limited time to set it up I wonder if we could pick your brains with a few questions? Have you noticed “clicking” in the audio? Are there any settings/tips you have? As the mic only switches on when you activate the camera I assume you can get an entire day rather than just the 6 hours they mention? Because we record the audio from intercoms our set up will be slightly different as we’ll being using a lav mic connected to the DJI mic. Have you used that feature yet? Sorry for all the questions 😂
@wanderinghonda7963. Thanks guys not sure if I can help but I'll try here goes; No "Clicking" at all Mic must be turned on, then connects when you turn on camera but stays on for 30 mins then shuts down. Mine is on a magnet in the chainguard so if it has shutdown I can pop it out and turn back on while riding. Never had it run out of battery even 12 hour days in Scotland. Don't forget to delete files from the Mic regularly though or it will fill up. Not using Lav Mics gave up on them had no success sorry. Settings. 2.7k60fps 16.9 Voice Control on (English) works perfect every time Wireless Mic On Screen Off after 5 mins when recording ND Filter mostly 8 for clear days Pro Settings (the most important) WB 5500k FOV Ultra Wide Exposure M @ 1/120 with ND filter if no filter then Auto ISO 100-3200 Colour Normal Transmitter minus12 Low Cut you need to experiment Have a Bluetooth Controller but its not reliable. Hope that helps a bit, I find the Action 4 so much better and reliable then the GoPro in fact I've sold the GoPro and bought a second Action 4. 👍FB
That’s great, thanks very much for the detailed reply, unfortunately the 30 minute shutdown thing is a real problem for us so we’ll have to return it when it arrives. Thanks for all your help though and safe riding.
I’ve owned a 2020 1250gs exclusive for two and a half years, I don’t have the problem with the rear light obviously as wasn’t available to my model, but I felt I had to comment as I have absolutely no problem with the gearbox up or down smooth to the extent if I didn’t look at the tft I’d sometimes no even notice 😂😂 sorry !!
That's good to hear, of all the guys I know with a GS a few like the QS gearbox but most don't. Still an awesome bike despite a few irksome quirks, but nothing is perfect eh. 👍FB
@GS_riders1250. Hi mate, wife has just informed me she has a workshop next Saturday April 27th. If you're available and the offer still stands I can head up your way. 👍FB
@GS_riders1250. Hi mate I've got a free day this Saturday and the forecast is ok so can come up to Holywell if it's convenient for you. Really appreciate the offer.👍
When you go Lock Ness, there's a single track road (parallel to A82) that runs most the length of the Lock, just on the other side of the Lock. A good alternative when A82 is full of coaches.
I too bought the same muffs this winter. They are absolutely fantastic and I too just wear my summer gloves, occasionally put the heated grips on but soon have to turn them off. 100% agree, total revelation! I love them!
A little tip I use Shoei flip front helmets and in the chin seal I've punched about 9 holes in it with a hole punch for leather, there is no desendable extra draft but really helps with fogging outside the pinlock edges.
Why do you have 50/50 tires on your bike when you don't go off road? It makes no sense, there are much better preforming tires for paved roads available.
Nice to hear a review of the tyres. I'm thinking of changing my OEM Metzler Tourance Next tyres on my Tiger 1200 GT Explorer before the ABR festival to something a little more suited to riding the trails. The Dunlops have been one I've been considering along with the Anakee's, but I haven't ridden anything with knobbly tyres for around 35 years so was worried about the wet weather performance on the road. Sounds like they perform well though!
I've run with Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR on several bikes, the last being on a Triumph Tiger 1200 Desert Edition. I ride mainly road, with motorways but am a location photographer and when I get where I'm going I need enough off-road grip for unmade roads, gravel tracks, forest fire break trails, grassy car parks on a wet misty morning etc. (but not serious mud plugging). I've tried several tyres on a Tiger 1200 and found the Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR to be the best compromise for my use. I'd say 60/40 Road/Off-road. Very decent and reliable in the wet on the road.Decent mileage too. I'd recommend them with confidence. I've just ordered a 2024 Honda Africa twin and considered having it delivered the Dunlop Trailmax Raids fitted, but I chickened out and have specified delivery with Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR on the basis, 'better the devil you know.'
@@dillcarver7731 I'de not even heard of those, so thank you for the tip. I'll definitely look into those. Do you find the wet weather performance is ok?
Go for it, just fitted a set to my desert x and so far they are brilliant, I have seen upto 5,500 from a rear and double for the front, see you at the ABR !
Be interesting to see what you think of the new Michelin Anakee Road tyres 🤔 I’ve got Anakee adventure on my gsa and I really like them 😂 but as I mostly ride roads I’ll probably try the road 6’s or Anakee roads next 🤔
GS_riders1250 afraid I'm not a Anakee fan had some pretty horrible experiences with them so not for me. Having said that a riding buddy is using them on his 900 GS and they're amazing. So one man's meat eh.👍FB
@@forestboy54 do you venture up to North Wales at all? I’d like to add the sports screen to your TFT (foc) be interesting to know live info on your lean angles 😎
@@GS_riders1250 yeah I do. Thanks, great offer. About to do a 12 month 15000 miles review so if you want to do it I'll add it to the review. Just let me know when and where.👍FB
@@GS_riders1250 just had a look that's 3 hours each way so have to be a weekend. When my missus has her next weekend workshop I'll let you know, see if it works for us both. How long does it take? Will it stay on when BMW plug in for a service? Cheers 👍FB
Epic trip! Been great to watch you travel places on my doorstep that I’ve not done…yet. Keep up the videos, pal. Really great to watch. Dinnae worry aboot the place names - I cannae pronounce half of them myself. 😂
Your pronunciations of the Scottish places 🤣 Sure I've commented before but again, sit still, it's almost unwatchable with the amount of moving about you;re doing.
@itsthejourneynotthedestination ha ha what do you expect from a West Country Englishman, some right ol tongue twisters in Scotland. Yeah I took the criticism on board but these were all made on the same trip, definitely something I need to improve on. Must keep still when actually recording, but Steven Spielberg I'm not.👍FB
Enjoying your videos. I'm from near Glasgow so almost my backyard LOL - I tend to go up there for a few days at a time in Apr/May & Sep/Oct - mostly quiet. I ride through the winter but its just for fun. I tend to find anything below around 8-9c my tyres start to feel wooden, simply cant get heat into them and makes the bike and underneath you feel extremely sketchy, I use Roads 6s, so try to avoid the colder days. Likewise heated gear is a game changer, I get by with Gerbing jacket and gloves and my heated seat on the bike
I’m from Highlands, jeez ur hardy doing that this time of year. Glad you enjoyed and great video. Kinlochewe is pronounced Kin-Loch-You, just so you know! Good choice with Midge Bite 👍
:)) . Always on the third day.. When you have left your worries behind and get into that relaxed mode.. You really do start getting religious.. no wow or amazeballs.. Its all sweet jesus and ohh goddd :)❤🩹💯🤓🙏🤳
HI LAD :) liked and subd.. wowsers Winter and hardly any day light hours but you enjoyed the eerie last bike in the world vibe on empty roads.. keep em coming my friend :)🤓💯❤🩹🙏
@sander.buitenhuis Thank you. Not using Gopro anymore for this trip I used Dji Osmo Action 4 and Dji Mic 2. Given up with GoPro to unreliable. It's devastating to do a day like the one above only to find that GoPro has corrupted the files or destroyed the audio so like many others I'm done with GoPro. FB👍
@Itsthejourneynotthedestination. If you have a Dji Osmo Action 4 you only need the mic 2 which is what I bought. If you have a Dji Osmo Action 3 or a Gopro you will need the receiver as well and a media mod so you can cold shoe mount it to the Gopro. That was my original set up but this is far superior and very simple to use. Only issue if on stand by it shuts off at 30 mins, a pita but you get used to it. FB👍
@@Itsthejourneynotthedestination pretty sure its big not recording as I'm chatting on the intercom so not talking. Not 💯 sure as I've only had it a few weeks.
May I say a couple of things from a viewers perspective and I'm no vlogging expert but I watch hunners of the......if talking to the camera, hold it up level with your face, also, sit fecking still on the bike, just out of Bridge o Cally you were rocking bak and fourth constantly, it was making me sick and makes for not a great viewing experience. OK on to watch the rest..
You're absolutely spot on I saw the same issues and intend to remedy both, as I've said previously I'm very much the novice. Appreciate your comments but being polite costs nothing. FB
@@forestboy54 As I said I'm no vlogging expert, I'm about to start doing it myself but it's advice and opinions like mine that will make things better for watching 👍
Great video Forestboy and subscribed 👍. We did the trip last year and loved it - can’t wait to be back. Looking to grow my channel and couple of things - how are you hiding your speedo - is it just tape ? I find it a pain blurring it out after the event - you’ve nailed it there. Also your audio sounds great - is that a DJI wireless mic? Keep up the good work and safe travels 👍
@TheramblinmanTRM. Thank you very much appreciate the comments. Yeah used the blurring a few times but a right ball ache so now just a bit of gaffa tape.😁 Audio is from the Dji Mic 2 and video the Dji Osmo Action 4, still learning, taken me a year to get to this point but absolutely loving creating. FB👍😎
@tomI893 thank you. Yeah it's stunning, so glad I did it in winter this time despite all the fair weather guys telling me we'd all die.🤣🤣 Northern Scotland is one of my favourite places. FB
Great vid will check out the others, love Scotland the higher up you go the more stunning it is, takes forever to get anywhere with all the stops to just stand there and gawp at the scenery
Nice one bud, welcome to off season Scotland. One thing that pisses me off about main stream media, ie BBC and ITV weather forecast maps show a totally shrunk up land mass of Scotland compared to the rest of the U.K. When you actually travel the roads by bike it is a much larger and diverse landscape than they would like you to believe.
