Did you guys know TNT ran commercial breaks IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GAMES? More than once you’d get back from the break and missed a goal, can you imagine pulling that crap today? That’s how clueless English American TV was when it came to soccer.
This tv crew almost forgot to call the game at the beginning. But its great to reminisce about those Strikers! "Rocky" Ray Hudson (who went on to be the craziest color-commentator in history), Alan Wiley, Jan Goosens, Thompson "Tomo" Usiyen, "Foggy" Ken Fogarty, Dwight "Dutchy" Lodeweges, Stan "the micro-wave" Cummins. And Tino, forced to play without his signature parrot? Those were fun games, but hard to bring the old NASL fans indoors. Thank you for uploading a piece of this obscure chapter of US Pro Soccer history!
Jason, do you have the ABC telecast of the match itself? Do you have an e-mail address that I can reach out to regarding this? I would love to secure a full copy for myself, willing to trade.
This is a gem! Thanks for sharing! I was just a little kid, I remember Lalas very clearly. He was like an icon with his style. And of course, our Galatasaray legend Hagi. Just because of him, I was supporting the Romanian national team in tournaments where Turkey was not participating. Greetings from Istanbul! ❤️
I listened to you call many games in 1987 when I was 27 years old back in 1987. Thank you Mr. Cantor you've grown the sport in the U.S.A. I look forward to you broadcasting Copa America 2024 and World Cup 2026 in the U.S.A.
I used to borrow my friend's VHS tape just to watch this halftime show. Some punk took it and never returned it so i've been trying to find it online ever since. You're the greatest!
