I think when Irish Americans say they're Irish, they're talking about ethnicity and not nationality. It could be more about language semantics than talking about where they're from. Most Irish Americans wouldn't deny they're not actually Irish and grew up American. However, i understand your concern about people being ignorant and not respectful of other cultures, and i agree with your content.
I think this woman must have serious self esteem issues to make fun and make hateful comment about people with indigenous irish ancestry. Ofcourse I'm not irish in the sense of being from the country . But lumping everyone together is ignorant and your basically a mean spirited person . Under irish nationality law if your indigenous irish ancestry you ARE CONSIDERED IRISH by the state. I am fully aware of irish culture norms and also the current unrest . But making fun of people and calling people racists is not on . I do not call or make fun of people because they ARE obese or from a certain country . I think that shows up your racism and bias . People from around the world celebrate there indigenous irish heritage. Australia south africa Canada. .do they know any more about the irish culture then Americans # NO THEY DON'T . But it is always been trendy to bash Americans deflecting from your own personal issues obviously which i can see in front of my face and failures in your own society. Good luck and maybe be become a bit more well travelled. Then you can see how much the Australian Canadian and south african dispora knows. Oh as for American being racist. Australia only got ride if its WHITE AUSTRALIA POLICY in 1973.you have a nice day ❤
I am full blood Irish man from Belfast city , the fact that the British still brutalised us through our childhoods makes us no less Irish , the term plastic paddy I find incredibly offence to the point it will make me chin someone , born in the island of Ireland you are Irish
So glad I found this page , Belfast born , grew up with all the old stories of the sidhe and our beautiful mythology , thank you Tara for creating this page
Another gem Tara, looking forward to hearing the longer interview with Damien. I didn’t realise until Anne said it, that we are directly related to Raymond McGrath!! As you say yourself we are within reach of history if only we take the time to listen.
Hey Derek! Good to hear from you, hope you're keeping well 😊 Plenty of tea from the hedge and field this summer - one of the things we can still do during a rainy summer 😅
Such progress! Makes me wonder what youre finding in the subsoil! Any bits of ceramic or old nails? Reminds me of when we dug the floors at my great grandparents woodshed and found all kinds of odds and ends. Glad you both are hydrating! It is hard hard work!
The Irish Americans who indulge in white supremacy must have no idea about the last 800 years of Irish history; they should pretend to be Brits and throw their lot in with those lads across the water.
That opening. Words my mother said when I fucked up as a child 😂 Florida man will fight a gator. But he ain’t fighting Irish women. That’s a different kind of fear
Also, feel free to join my channel memberships if you want behind-the-scenes updates and to enable me to get something resembling a fair income for making these videos.
I was invited in to film Lisnawully, which I did, but I was asked to hold off on publishing until a later date for legal reasons. I am still awaiting permission to publish.
Thanks for your support despite my inconsistent posting habits Betsy. It was hard having to prioritise this work (and the subsequent rests my brain needed), especially when I wasn't even sure that people outside of Dundalk would even appreciate the finished product. So it's extremely validating and sort of life-affirming to know these have value to a wider audience, truly.
@@DiaryofaDitchWitch they definitely have value, especially to someone like me who is very interested in these things, but will mostly likely never get to Ireland to see them for myself. You be as inconsistent as you need to be to take care of yourself because as much as I love these videos, your well-being is far more important.
Here in Brittany , which is Celtic , I'm Irish , I drink a great Local whisky full of flowers , herbs and spices . I'm over 80 years and it's keeping me alive. ( I think.)
And we were the lucky sods who managed to snag him in for dinner before the filmed this, so the craic was truly flying by this point in the afternoon 😍
I've gone exploring to discover the rock art, petroglyphs, in the hills & deserts of the Southwest in America. Not as old, but still mysterious reminders of a mostly unknown time.
I think I'm both charmed and annoyed by the mystique of rock art being so difficult to date and all.....but there's something so permanent and comforting about stone, that for just a moment, you get to share the artist's satisfaction with a job well done ❤
Fantastic video. 🙂👍 If asked to put forward a theory, my theory would be that the rock art serves a mnemonic function; that the art has been made at significant landmarks along a route across the landscape; with stories, rituals etc being performed at each location, to keep alive the culture and oral tradition of our ancestors. <-sort of like the way aboriginal people in Australia use their Dreamtime and walkabout traditions to remember their culture. Or to use a western example, something akin to the method of loci practiced by the ancient Greeks. Well, maybe. That’s my guess anyway. 😁
Thanks Steve! And you're not alone in thinking along those lines - the ceremonial route theory came up once or twice whilst I was putting together this installment. It's a very tantalising notion, for sure, given the prevalence near areas that, even if they haven't been excavated yet, seem nonetheless sort of poignant in their general vibe.
I would love to be able to rediscover some of the knowledge and music that's lost in time from people of those times. There's one at the back of rock with the name of a housing estate in Carnew, Co Wicklow
Thanks Julie! Yup, the link to my adaptation of Chapter 1 of An Táin is here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IgStTQig0sM.htmlsi=MBOcK1Wz9DNMpNb6
