Hello. I love your videos. What time of the year did you go to the Sjoa? I like the water level that you had and would like to go around the same time to catch the same water levels. Thanks!
@@EthanHarris795 Hi there, thanks a lot! 🙂 We visited in the summer, I think it was late July or early August. But of course there's no guarantee for the similar water level. If there is enough rain, which you never know, it might be very different.
@@gargamel726 If you don't hit the correct line on the left of the current, where is a little V tongue, or boof it really really well, it will totally eat you. At least that's our experience. One paddler got stuck there really badly, with a boat as well as without when she swam she was still stuck in the hole for a while, not a pleasant experience at all 😐 you are probably talking about the chicken line on the very left behind the small island which is between the hole and the left riverbank, where you can avoid the hole completely, we also took it last time we paddled there 😄. To be honest, I don't like this piece of the run, as the correct line is visible only at the very last moment and my boofing on this kind of stuff absolutely sucks. Otherwise the section is fun 🙂
@@SandraTeine Thank you for the info and video. So the looks aren't deceiving with this one, looks nasty :D I am talking about the "right channel", right from island, where the hole is, but then I paddle very very close to the shore on the left, so I can sneak left of the hole. I think we are talking about the same line, I just called it chicken and you called it "the correct line", makes sense, both terms are pretty accurate :D Thx
Hello Sandra. I'm looking for a kayak (something like your "queen of hearts"). My weight is 65 kg, 170 cm. I know that this kayak (queen of hearts) is for smaller people. Do you think that my weight is too high for this kayak? Thanks for your opinion. (I'm from Czech republic).
@@rastislavvalasek6806 Hi there, the Queen is indeed for small/er paddlers, I think it wouldn't fit your needs in this regard, or you would be on the very upper limit of the boat, probably not very comfortable. But it very much depends on what you need, what kind of whitewater you paddle, what's your paddling style etc. I think for your size there are many options out there 🙂 btw. I'm from Czech as well.
Aha. 😅 . Dekuji Ti za odpoved - ted vim te tento kajak neresit. Zkousel jsem EXO xt 260 minule a ten byl celkem OK. Mas pekna videa. Jeste jednou DIKY. Mej se pekne.
Looks great, thanks for sharing. I’ll be there next week. What are your top tips? I’ve done 10 years of white water kayaking, including grade 4 rivers and Lee Valley Olympic if you know the course in the U.K.
Nope 🙂 Cataract is a section right above Otona, it's much harder, full of siphons and officially forbidden to paddle. And I've heard they started being quite strict about that rule and already few people have been fined for paddling there 😔 although for skilled kayakers it's been a gem.
Thanks! It's composed of two Fiama bike racks for the right back door, and one Fiama ladder for the left door, from which the crossbars were used. The kayaks are caught with straps. As far as I know, there are no official vertical kayak racks.
Hi, thanks! I'd say it very much depends on your paddling technique and what difficulty you want to paddle. It is absolutely awesome boat regarding it's shape (not really regarding material) and behaviour. It is very communicative, easy to roll, playful, fast. It can definitely help you progress, although if you don't have yet good sense of paddle moves, it can very easily get overturned (turning too left/right), especially for lazier paddlers or on water around class 2 where there use to be a lot of small waves from different directions, which can get little frustrating when you are turning all over the place. I'd definitely recommend trying it first if you can.
@@SandraTeine Thank you for your feedback and experience! So far I've only paddled WW I and lighter WW II (with an old Prijon Invader Light). In the long run I'm aiming for WW III, but nothing more. Perhaps the comparatively poorer material is then negligible. I'm looking for a beginner boat to grow with. The way you describe the Queen sounds really tempting, so I'm definitely going to try it! It seems like a boat that isn't too forgiving if I got you right. What I like: A kayak that gives direct feedback as to whether you paddled correctly. I'll let you know when I've had my first little run with it.
@@jaaahooo22 definitely give it a try. What I'd recommend you most as a beginner boat, that is not forgiving, yet very communicative and you can greatly progress with it, is Dagger Axiom. They don't produce it anymore, but it's still in shops and if you could get one, that would be my top recommendation.
@@SandraTeine It's really a nice coincidence that you mentioned the Dagger Axiom: I also had the boat in view. Until a consultant in the shop said that kayaks with modern shapes (i.e. more rocker in the bow) were now better suited. But the Dagger Rewind or the Spade Starfire seem more made for people who can paddle more advanced? I don't know. That's why I said goodbye to Half Slices a bit, and the Queen of Hearts came into play. If the rocker in the bow doesn't matter for what I want to paddle, I'd really be more than happy with the Axiom!
@@jaaahooo22 I had Axiom for couple of years, it was my beginner boat and it helped me progress quite nicely, last year I switched it for Rewind (besides having Queen) and that is from my point of view not a beginner boat anymore, it is quite a lot more challenging than Axiom, not so communicative and definitely not really forgiving :D I like it, but wouldn't recommend it for a beginner. Having that extra front rocker is great (and Queen has it huge), but if you really want to learn good technique first, I don't think it's that crucial. But I'm not an expert, I just tell you my own experience that might be different from others. But for me Axiom was the best beginner boat for couple of years and I've seen more people progress with it same as me. So yeah, that would be my recommendation, but with Queen you will definitely not make a mistake either, as long as you are active paddler, not just waiting what the water and boat do, than you might be disappointed. But that pays for all half slices as well :D you must be active.
Cheers from North America! What a great river and what a great run! It reminds me a lot of the rivers where I live; nice clean water fun, but not so hard that you can't take time to look at the beautiful mountains, trees, and of course, water. It looks fun. I'll have to save my money so I can go run it someday. I'm loving your videos, so keep them coming!
Hey Ethan, so sorry for such a late reply, youtube just haven't notified me 🤷 it was beginning of July. It very depends on the weather. It might be low, but when it properly rains, it can get high. Hopefully you'll have good levels 🙂
