USS Gwin, in this case, was DD-433, not DD-444. It was the third ship named Gwin. The four, in order, TB-16, DD-71, DD-433, DM-33. fwiw DD-444 was USS Ingraham. This is a great series of interviews. Fond childhood memories at the store. Ruthabells home used to be behind the store, I'd spend the night with my cousins there. Bobby was their uncle. I remember the credit thing. My cousins would get yelled at by my uncle for putting too much on credit 😂 The deli food was the best! Buttermilk biscuits from scratch breakfast sandwiches. It's been there for so many decades & I always stop by on my way to Bear Lake or Munson Pool aka Krul Lake. ❤
My Grandfather was a Belly Gunner. he was 72 when he passed away in 2000 he told me a few things but wouldnt talk much about it. Miss him dearly. thanks for your service Mr Mills.

Tony, the real Tony Hill was in my class during the seventies and I’ve watched him take that football from one gold to the next and no one could catch him. He was like a rabbit. No catch Tony is what I called him. God Bless you Tony. Sorry to hear he has gone from us.

My Father was a Ball Turret Gunner on a B-17. He flew 23 missions before he was shot down on April 11, 1944. He was a P.O.W. for 13 months and was liberated by Patton’s 3rd army. He returned home, married, raised 2 sons, worked for 45 years to provide for his family. He passed in 2006 at age 86. This man was my Father and my hero. There will never be men like this ever again. They were the Greatest Generation.

My grandfather was there (Guadalcanal) in the Army’s 25th infantry div, field artillery. He was also stationed at Pearl Harbor on Dec 7 ‘41, scheduled for discharge 11 days later, he ended up serving 4 more years before he got to come home. The army is seldom recognized for its service in Guadalcanal.
This town is built on lies and cover ups. As a childhood cancer survivor growing up in this town i learned and opened my eyes to subtle clues of concern from town officials (Dykstra) of my diagnosis. Why they went out of their way to talk to my mom about what was happening to me to protect thier own interests. A town considered wealthy for the area with nice homes and high property values had a lot to lose if people learned about all the toxic chemicals buried at station park causing cancer in children. Town's a fucking joke and so are all the heartless pieces of shit public officials past and present. And the people who know the truth getting bullied and threatened, dont be intimidated.
