Horology is my hobby, I like watches, especially vintage ones because they have history, style, patina, they have soul. I also love hunting obscure quartz or mechanical ones and the fact that they can often be bought at bargain prices is a bonus for those of us who can really want cheap thrills. Thank you.

Nice video! Throughout this video the problematic misalignment of the hour hand to the minute hand can be seen. From what I have read, this is a widespread issue with this new calibre, and even after service the problem often returns. Which means that Breitling doesn't yet have a proper fix for it. Really sad that the current buyers are essentially beta testers paying $5,000 for the privilege.

Have it, Im satisfied, changed battery 2 times, stripes changed 3 times, now have silicone, bought in 2011 in UK probably as January sale from Argos :) ... just Altimeter works a bit strange, probably needs some setting ...
I meant that they are reproducing KS now. The originals are superior. If you can get one in nice shape, it should last you the rest of your life if you maintain it. I just spent almost as much as I paid for the watch getting a watchmaker to service my 1974 5626-7113 and I'm impressed, very impressed, so far with it's sub one second a day accuracy. It was only a few weeks ago, that I got it serviced, I shall keep monitoring it.
i grabbed this a few years ago. it is an insane value and a great one watch collection if someone chooses to. the black date window and the bracelet's features and unique polishing are what made me have to have it. i love the big readable hands that have an elegant geometry and how versatile it is.
The dial is printed, nothing applied. Really basic. From what I know, the caliber is a base SW-300-a, I think. If it has to be a IWC, sure its a great watch. But if someone just looks for a Pilots watch, then you can look basicly anwhere else. And yes, 3000 Dolalrs is a lot of money for most people, IWC or not. Want so save money, buy a cheaper watch with a Sellita caliber. There is not much value in it, except the name IWC.
@@ModernandVintageWatches No, sorry. That was not my intention. I watched your video and I am sure nothing I say can make you regret this watch, since you obviously cherish it. I am always a bit reserved when it comes to luxury items since they charge a lot for them. But in this case, I was a bit harsh and unfair and this watch has a lot of good points. While I critiqued the printed dial, The print itself is crisp and without flaw. The SW300 they use is slimmer and has a better power reserve than the SW200, and I think they use a COSC version of it. 3000 Dollars, while a lot, is a nice price for it. Here in Switzerland, this watch costs around 5k CHF at Bucherer. So, you got an amazing deal. To be honest, I was once close to buying a Mark XX, so I get the appeal. Again, sorry if I came off as a dick.
Ok, imo this watch is worth every penny, reasons below Iwc brand prestige Ar coated sapphire which looks blue in certain lighting Glass displacement protection from drops in air pressure Iron inner case Great movement which is adjusted in 5 positions High level of case finishing Looks amazing, no other pilot watch looks as good Screw down crown and water resistant 8 year warranty
@@coffeeboyclips1973 I already admitted that I was a bit too harsh about this watch. At 3k, even I think its an ok price. I could see myself considering it. Another thing about prestige. You dont wear prestige, you do not own it. The brand owns the prestige, you get a product with the name on it. Are you sure that you get the full 8 years warranty, if you buy a used watch? Other than that, yeah I agree with you.
I've got a 61/2 inch wrist and wear my gen 3 green sumo in high rotation it fits just fine due to seikos case design and undercut bevelling it wears smaller than dimensions would suggest, if in doubt, try one on , you'll be surprised how well an admittedly large watch fits smaller wrists
I know and yre right, I am a dive watch guy, I have only the Omega Speedmaster as a chrono watch only because is an investment. You know what?...for you, I will start reviewing some chrono watches, just let me some slack, I need to research it first.
I've read also that a longer power reserve will potentially improve accuracy too. Accuracy tends to suffer as PR dwindles past 50%. The longer that a watch takes to reach that 50% mark, the more likely it will stay on target. The higher beat rate usually makes it easier to regulate, and definitely gives a much smoother sweep to the second hand. My only gripe with the PM 80 is that hobbyists like myself cannot regulate the movement safely, because we do not have the tools to support the balance wheel while adjusting the screws on each end. It can bend the wheel or the pivot and lead to a ruined movement. I've read also that Swatch generally just replaces malfunctioning PM 80 movements, because its cheaper to do that than to pay someone labor rates to repair or even regulate them.
Seems like longer PR id better for accuracy like higher bit/rate as well. On PM80 being serviceless I just hate this solution they find, instead is better to replace it altogether, something is fishy here, is not quite right... and what? need to send the watch to the maker to replace the caliber? Is it easy to do it? Even if you send the watch to the AD, I dont think is something I am willing to bet on. I rather stick to the old ways to service it and avoid watches with PM80.
@@ModernandVintageWatches Fortunately, we would probably not need to send it back to Certina. Any Swatch group certified watchmaker can repair or replace the P 80 movement. I just wonder if it could be replaced by a 2824-2 or maybe even a Sellita S200 at some point - the dimensions are similar. Any watchmaker can do maintenance on 2824-2 movements, and parts are readily available.
I own a Rangeman GW-9400 and now I got this yellow Rangeman GPR-H1000 and I love it! It does the same thing as the GW-9400, but more great functions. Better display and extra functions is not a bad thing for me.👍
When you're 200m underwater, you won't know how much oxygen you have left, but at least you'll know the time in another time zone. That way you can think about what you'd be doing if you'd just stayed home.
@@ModernandVintageWatches So underwater you have to convert the numbers in your head, and as a GMT watch you're stuck with an inconvenient unidirectional bezel. But sure, we have dive computers now. We also have phones that function as perfectly accurate pocket watches. Ultimately, this whole hobby is mostly just silly fun, and that's how I meant my comment. If you want a watch that tracks different time zones while deep underwater, then more power to you!
Thanks for your opinion, I would rather appreciate the critics, they make you to aim to do better. Yes, the bracelet is not optimal but the watch itself I like it very much.

Casio needs to make this watch again. It has a place in the market- as even high end garmins, Apple Watches Suunto don’t have the toughness of this watch. Now Casio is just making toys for children.
Caliber 72 has nothing with powermatic 80,it’s not even similar.Mido caliber 72 is infact L888.4 from Longines,it has 25200 and 3.5 hz,people should go nuts cuz this Mido has rebranded top of the line Longines cosc caliber in a watxh which cost 1000$.
