Firstly, beautiful coastline, fish and information shown, so I thank you. Secondly, I've just started listening back to the old Ricky Gervais podcats and you sound like an intelligent and passionate Karl Pilkington!! 😂😂😂 Subscribed and liked Sir! ✌️
Fascinating video. Thank you for sharing your session with us. What depth were you fishing please? Just off the bottom? Mid water? Sliding float or fixed? Thank you..
@@paulvandermaas6639 Glad you enjoyed it! The float is a sliding float fixed with float stops, I adjust the depth during the session depending where I'm fishing the float. I usually start a foot off bottom. I know the depths well at that mark, if I'm fishing new ground I'll clip on a heavy lead and plumb about to get an idea of depths.
Thanks for the great vids. I use to collect prawn on the chalk reefs in Kent. I found moving the net slower through the weed under the ledges got me more and bigger prawn.
@@TH-mq6gr cheers! It's a very satisfying way to collect bait, there's certain spots at certain times of the year I know where it's easy to get 50-60 thumb sized prawns in five minutes or less. I take them home to eat also, cracking bait and delicious to eat, my young kids love them!
@@simonknox5580 Cheers Simon! Anything over 45cm goes back, I find much more enjoyment taking the odd fish for the table nowadays. Great fun on the light gear on a small hardback crab nicked though the apron, definitely a bait I'll be using more, opening the odd bass and finding multiple small hardback, not peeler crab should tell us anglers all we need to know.
@@Tinsley68 Cheers Pete! Even after 40+ years still get the same excitement going out! Very like going for a blast on the bike but much safer! 😂 Hope you're good and all the best! 😎
@@karldouglas4997 It's just Google maps with the satellite overview 👍 I'm going to do a video on how I use that Google earth and navionics in conjunction it as it's a powerful tool.
@@durbanmedia It's a great question, I do take for the pot occasionally but have a strict size limit of 42-45cm, which is essentially the legal minimum size. A bigger fish like this is a breeding fish, as bass increase in size the amount of eggs they produce is huge in comparison to a 1lb weight difference, say fish weighing 4-5lb the 5lb fish will produce a huge amount of eggs more than the 4lb fish, the 1lb extra weight makes a big difference, so you can imagine how many eggs a 8lb+ fish produces. 👍
@@hooklinetrigger4576 thanks for explaining that! caught me a flatty this morning(just a lil one). can I ask if that 42-45cm means if it is 46cm u wont keep it, or are u going by weight say if its 4-5lb+ u gonna release it based off breeding( going to a good bass spot tomorrow so its good to know these things.)
A 46cm would be fine, it's when they get 3lb plus I put them back, I only take occasionally nowadays tbh, I used to freeze them and also give them to people but now only take one fish occasionally and eat it the night after. An interesting thing worth mentioning is I bleed and brain spike my bass using the Japanese ikejime method, makes a big difference to the taste and is humane as possible method if dispatch, Google it if you haven't heard of it, 💯 worth doing. 👍
@@hooklinetrigger4576 ok cheers for that and I will look that up as well! heading out tomorrow am early for the high to a nice mark again. will take your advice cheers.
Well done on some good Bass. Local to me too, I'm using a 10 inch rotten bottom on the same leger rig so only lose the lead not the fish majority of the time. I don't use a pennel it's too rough. Tight lines as you say 👍👍
@@simonknox5580 Cheers! Rotten bottom is a good idea, I do use it at times when I know the ground is particularly rough and casting a larger distance, during that session and most of my reef sessions I'm casting in to clear, sandy/chalk bottomed areas that I know at close range, moving to different spots as the tide floods. Tight lines!
Definitely the type of ground I'd use a pulley rig. Great fish that first Bass, my p.b is a 10 late last year and used 1/0 varivas j hook and a 1/0 sakuma octopus hook as the pennel hook.
Hello mate, when I first started fishing the reef I used a pulley pennel, on that particular ground it resulted in snagging and lost gear, experimenting between myself and two other mates who I fish with we found a basic running ledger much less prone to snagging, the vital thing we found is holding the rod at all times and feeling the lead down on the cast, as soon as the grip lead touches bottom it's held on a tight line and not moved, the lead/circle hook acts almost like a bolt rig, the takes are vicious and tight to the fish immediately. 99% of the time the circle is perfectly in the scissors 👍 we do lose gear, but surprisingly little using this method. 10lb a bass of a lifetime! 😎 Where are you based?
@@hooklinetrigger4576 Hello buddy, I guess it's what you're used to when choosing a rig. I've always used a pulley pennel as it keeps the bait secure during the cast and allows for a further chuck. I fish open beaches 90% of the time and usually when there's an onshore wind so getting distance to reach gulleys can be difficult with some rigs. I was out Sunday evening and had a 4 pounder which made great lunch on Monday 😀. Missed a vicious bite which almost pulled my rod off the rest, more than likely 5+. I know what you mean regarding a running ledger being tight to the fish but having a bait that isn't clipped always make me wonder if the line has wrapped above the lead on impact with the water which doesn't do any wonders for bait presentation or confidence. Don't say that 10 pounder was a fish of a lifetime because I want another this year haha. I live in North Wales.
@@richardjones2811 Ah, got ya 👍 pulley perfect on open beaches at distance, definitely my choice of rig in those conditions. The exciting part of fishing the reef in the vid is it's really close range fishing, at your feet sometimes, I've had bass erupt out of the water less than a rods distance on the take, very exciting! If you say it's a fish of a lifetime it'll trick the fish gods into letting you have more! 😂 Can't beat those rod out the hand takes, I rarely fish more than one rod, sometimes hound fishing ill use my contis on a rest, bait runner set but can't beat feeling those takes, especially a ripper! I'm from Southport originally, used to go Llandudno often on holiday, some lovely coast there. The only fishy family eat is what I catch, my nippers are spoilt scoffing wild caught bass in the regular, very satisfying!
@@hooklinetrigger4576 Nothing better than waders on and standing in the surf feeling for the bites. Most of the time I just hold the rod and wait for Mr Bass to snaffle the worm. Akios fury 420 matched with a Surfblaster MK1 7500 is light enough. West shore Llandudno can produce some very nice bass but also eels as it's an estuary. I love that double knock you get first with a Bass, like it's the way they stun the prey then they come back for it. Spoilt around here really and on the odd occasion I'll go to Anglesey on the lures. Know a few amazing marks there for both Bass and Sea-Trout off the surface which is very exciting.
Sounds like you've got some great varied fishing there, we get sea trout in our estuaries, particularly the River Adur, I fish there on the fly for the bass and mullet, vids of that coming soon. Double knock 💯 them stunning/ bashing the bait with their gill rakers 👍 had one last night, nothing big but nice to be out as always. 😊
Really enjoyed the video. I normally just use lures for the Bass , but deffo going to try live baiting. Can I ask what make circle hooks you use , and in what size ?
Thanks! They are amazing eating, myself and family are big fans of calamari, especially super fresh from the sea, I don't buy shop sold squid or fish, we only eat what I catch, I feel really fortunate to be able to provide delicious fresh seafood for my family. I keep the wings and heads as bass bait, can't get much better bait for them. 👍
I think Shakespeare have always had a varied price point tackle wise, had quite a few bits and bobs of Shakespeare kit over the years. My grandad bought my brother and I Abu Cardinal 55s when we were little, those and the Mitchell reels were top end 40 years ago, wish I still had it!
I fish around North Wales ,(Broom speedboat converted for seafishing).I've often thought what finicky eaters Mullet are.Apart from bread,I've tried to figure out a bait they will take.I think if someone was to come up with a bait it would be a popular break through.
@@stanwilson8089 They can definitely be a tricky (hair tearingly annoying) fish to catch 😂 Thin lips can be caught on meps spinners tipped with rag worm and both species on the fly, small shrimp and bloodworm type patterns. I'll be filming some episodes using the fly next summer. We've a couple estuaries in Brighton, early morning or late evening stalking and casting to feeding fish. Your boat sounds good, have you seen the fishing rigged jetskis?
@@hooklinetrigger4576 I'm getting on a bit,so jetski's would be a bit hard to handle. Not a bad idea though.I built a mansion at Handcross about 35yrs ago,and didn't take a fishing rod.Didn't really have a lot of time to spare though.I fish the North Wales coast,Anglsea and the Menia straits.
like ya style pal. i love fishin with vintage tackle. I have a Split cane Salmon rod from my late uncle, and I promised myself I'd catch a salmon on it. I hooked and played one a couple of seasons back, but it shook the hook. I have at least one session on it each year. Fingers crossed it will happen. keep up the vids! Above Average Angler.
Hi Alan, I read your bio on your channel and you summed it up perfectly, fishing for me is the same for you, I enjoy all disciplines and the varied memories that different fishing gives us. Same with tackle, really important to remember the heritage and put the old gear to good use, I don't know who was happier hooking that mullet, me or the rod and reel! 😂
Thanks Harry! Fishing is definitely the special life long gift that keeps giving! My grandad was out catching big carp up until a couple of days before he died, really hope I'm able to do the same!
Thanks! I just don't like it up there tbh, I prefer a bit of peace and quiet 😂 I believe rod prices are £10 a rod and don't think it opens all the time.
i don't know what is more impressive, the fact that you didn't slip and fall on those pretty dangerous rocks at night or the fact that you didn't snag your jig on them, Cuz i can tell you for a fact i would've been doing both all night long
Really sad. Catch your dinner by all means, but hook a small fish so a big fish will eat it, then hook the big one for fun! There are better ways of enjoying yourself.
If It doesn't sit well with you I find it extremely odd that you'd watch a video that says in the title "livebaiting" I frequently fish to provide fresh fish for myself and my family, we don't buy shop sold fish, you may not be aware but there are legal limits for what you can and can't take in the UK, I retained one fish of legal size for the table during this session. You'll probably feel much better avoiding fishing videos altogether in the future, or maybe you just enjoy being a negative ninny. 😂
I was out on my boat luring yesterday...kept 2 released 8...bought a cast net because i want to try live baiting for bass when boat camping also its a great survival tool...managed to find one for a great price, genuine EZ Throw from US...havent tried it yet as in still sorting my boat camping system out.
I've just received a cast net, really looking forward to giving it a go, there's an estuary mark I fish that is teeming with small mullet, I plan to use the cast net to gather them for livebait. 👍
Great video. Did you set your float depth to fish the goby/prawns just off the bottom? Also, I struggle not to strike with circles, do you lift not strike?
Cheers! I vary the depth from just off bottom to mid water to just below the surface, I find about a foot off bottom seems to be most productive. I wind down on the take and lift when I feel the fish on, a bouyant float helps to turn and catch the hook. 👍
Your content is very good! But your video SEO(search engine optimization) is very low that's why the video doesn't rank. I want to show you the issues of your RU-vid channel, Are you interested?
