you cut the metal siding back to o.d.of nail fin +- 3" bigger than window, install "j" trim sneak in couple nails/glue.. what /how are you making up 1.5" on both sides of window to allow nail fin? is that hardy trim? then you need to allow for that on your siding cut as to no cut 2x.. j mold will butt up to hardy trim, hsrdy trim will butt to window overlapping j fin /nail fin...

This video shows only the very basics, as it's a sales video, not a do-it-yourself video. Essentially he's cutting away enough of the aluminum (Either with an angle grinder and metal-cut wheel, or an oscillating saw (both available for cheap at Harbor Freight). -With the aluminum cut away, he's able to caulk and nail the new window flange to the wood sheathing of the house. It should then be taped with window type tar-tape (sometimes called "Flashing tape."). He's most likely sliding his hand carefully under the aluminum siding to do this. -He's then shaping and placing the j-channel around the aluminum, he may be able to put a couple nails in it depending on how loose the aluminum siding is. (If not a little glue, caulk or window tape to hold it in place for a few minutes). There's a gap between the window, and j-channel... Which brings us to the next step. -He's then placing the mitered brick-mold trim between the J-channel and window frame. He's measured so that everything has a snug fit, and decent appearance. He's nailing the brick-mold trim to the wall, and possible either nailing the j-channel -sideways- to the brick molding, or using a couple little screws. (Not too many if it's vinyl j-channel, as it moves slightly with weather conditions.) -He's then caulking where the j-channel touches the brick-molding, and also where the brick molding is touching the window frame itself. It takes a little bit of three dimensional thinking to picture all of this. If you decide to tackle a problem like this, measuring the dimensions of everything is probably your most difficult task. Next to cutting the actual aluminum without kinking it. It should be easy, it's thin. just take your time and be careful with it. Remember to think like water and gravity. Make sure stuff overlaps for rainfall to fall down. Good luck, all the best.

Mike seems to have the only Aluminum siding window installation video on U Tube. Why? We’ll it’s aluminum and for good reason. Vague, but if you have the aptitude and skillset you can understand how to install dealing with aluminum siding. Since Aluminum siding is no longer available and if you Muck up your Aluminum siding, you’re looking at replacement of your house veneers. Removing Aluminum siding will require in-depth skill and even then replacing it you must place nails into the outside veneers of the siding, Not to mention preventing damage of crimping,denting and pings! Very few people can accomplish this and wouldn’t recommend. Vinyls or Hardy Board siding are not inexpensive either way. So this video shows a retrofit window installation. It’s the next best thing to a new siding and windows installation. I have been in the business for forty years and would not risk the liabilities! If you wanted new Windows, my only solution would be replace Veneers and Windows at same time for me to warranty my work. But hey, if Mom or Pop can’t afford it, sure there is always someone willing to skin that Cat, to help you without spending your life’s saving. Very helpful video for those folks trying save money and feed the family. Enjoyed your video! Love people helping people!

I’m happy to find at least a partial video. All of the crucial steps were skipped in the video. To do this, you really need to actually see the trim off of the siding and install of the J-Channel under the aluminum siding, and does the window but up against the J-Channel or does it cover it? You should definitely show the trim oof the aluminum siding and say what saw and bit you used. Did you use flashing tape around your rough opening, I didn’t see any?

@DB-cx6cb
@DB-cx6cb Год назад
@@Kdogpiper You already know. He couldn’t nail the j channel correctly with Aluminum siding. Unless he nailed at a angle, which puts holes in the J channel which defeats the purpose of not having to caulk where water travels. It would be better not nailing and using J channel slide behind aluminum siding without nails

I appreciate your time, your title gets attention for sure, your video only helps those who understand window replacement or someone who have some construction skills, but for the rest the way that it's done it's irritating, meaning you should think about doing a Do-over, (Problems to address) First talking without showing, One positioned video, No close-ups, some people would like to see your J-Channel cuts again close-ups, Unhelpful steps, Skipped steps, Brick molding installation confusion, you are installing a new construction window in this video, there are windows without nail flange that has nail brackets to secure it, and also has flanges to slide in the sides of the window to stop the water, I've Installed them myself. all window companies do not build windows the same, V windows comes with & without the flanges. you do not help at all when it comes to the types of caulking to use, no one want caulk that will mole. here is what I see, you are selling you company trying to obtain work but you could be hurting your company based on the way this video was done, I don't think you are dishonest but title suggest that you are trying to help homeowners with this installation and it does not, don't be discouraged about the angry remarks we all make mistakes, just do it over again, Thanks. I appreciate your effort.

This is not about brick. It’s about aluminum siding and if you f**k up your aluminum siding siding that is no longer manufactured then your looking at replacement of all outside veneer. This is a specialized project and you better be a person who has an attention to detail or have deep pockets. If you don’t have a table saw and know how to properly trim out a window, you may need a friend or contractor. And yes brick requires a Finless “ replacement window “ and he knows this if he’s been in the window installation for 15 years.
