What sis this style of music? Where the lines don't rhyme. It's halfway to spoken word.

7:08 marshmallow? Haha so random but still my favorite part. Also just noticing that was the bag of “marbles” from the beginning of the song. That sly devil haha

Musical theater has an emotional immediacy that most Americans cannot handle - so they claim to "hate it".

Shirley Jones said she was pregnant with her son Patrick during the production of this movie. It was secret kept away from many on the set. However, she said during their kissing scene her son Patrick gave a kick which startled Robert Preston, exclaiming "What the heck was that?"

Songs like this make "My Fair Lady" so vastly superior to "Pygmalion" - and that was very good as it was

My folks used to say "Right here in River City" whenever anyone asked 'em where they were from. I've said it my entire life, and never knew where it was from. The fact that Lyle Lanley was based on this (as The Simpsons is my all-time favorite *THING*) makes this that much cooler. Thanks for posting this.

"Yeah yeah nice watch!" "Well that watch costs more than the dadgum rattletrap dog-eater coupe that you drove here in!..."

Beyond the stage lights that came first, this is the cinematic birth of a beautiful ballad from an incomparable score by Meredith Willson. A triumph of the American musical theatre.

I love the detail that the people there have seen billiards, maybe even regularly partook in the game, and nobody ever had an issue with it. But pool is somehow so different and will somehow destroy society. Reminds me how people always claimed that TV and videogames fill children's minds with hate and violence, but also give them books that feature those vary things to read and write essays about, just because they're classics.
