I believe it was and still is a noble idea that worked alongside formal education to impart life skills education to kids as they grow up. Like a connection to our humanistic/naturalist side of our upbringing. The non formal education on human values, self reliance, positivism, effort to achieve better, pursuit of common good and kindness. It's the reason to spring to action to help out someone in danger instead of being a spectator, the reason to assist a lost/distressed animal instead of neglecting, the reason to care for the environment, the reason to see, recognize and respect the differences and contribution of others in the community.
Not much, it was fun asf for me, I miss it tbh, the bonfire at night especially, ilikuwa baridi usiku, but fun asf. 😂 can't believe I used to do this at such a young age under 11 years, before moving to Australia.
I rem the scouting squad in highskul always going to Rowalland for camps "Rowa" and i always asked myself the importance of scouting after school 🤔... apart from camping, marching and remembering the anniversaries of the founder of scouts in Kenya Barden Powell ( hope that's the correct spelling) in Nyeri .
