*the economic system best used to describe the United States is Liberalism (capital L, not to be confused with social liberalism, lowercase l) - a free market system with some government regulation. Capitalism is the word for a completely unregulated market, what most people would call “Laisez-Faire capitalism”. The fact that we have taxes and the EPA and FDA are proof that we don’t live in a capitalist country. This seems pedantic and dumb, but it’s actually a super important difference. Regulating companies is the STANDARD in this country, and has been for the last 100+ years. When you say that this country is capitalist and not Liberalist, you imply that those regulations and departments are deviations from the status quo of this country’s economic system, which they are not and have not been since Roosevelt at the absolute latest.
I actually sat in the audience next to Mitchell’s family during this broadcast, even overheard from I think was his mom after this round about a surprise back injury from carrying his team so far.
The only one I would disagree with is that the major economic system running the US NOW is fascism. Mussolini's fascism to be precise, where the merging of corporations and state has long occurred and corporations, rather than politicians, determine the means of production and distribution. Ie... After 2008 the Dodd-Frank banking act was written by Citigroup and Obamacare was written by the health insurance companies (lobbyists).
Capitalism is NOT correct. The US is a MIXED economy, which blends governmentally provided services and goods with publicly available capitalistic goods. The 25th amendment does not describe presidential succession, only succession with regard to the vice president and other basic provisions. The actual document that does so is the "Presidential Succession Act", most recently revised in 1947. The legislative, in this case, uses a bipartisan system to circumvent a free election by pre-empting the election with caucuses, allowing the American people only two real options for the presidency. This is why we have not had a 3rd party candidate who has been able to receive more than 10% of the US public vote since 1992. As a result of this, the answer is not just the parliamentary system. The 'Green Card' is a colloquial title, not the proper name for the document. The actual name of the document is a "Permanent Resident Card". The list of Enlightenment writers is not actually correct. Hobbes' work predates the Enlightenment, which is generally considered to have begun in the late 17th century and flourished throughout the 18th century. Although his ideas significantly influenced Enlightenment thinkers, Hobbes himself is not considered an Enlightenment philosopher. Locke's work marks the beginning of the Enlightenment, and he is often regarded as a precursor to the Enlightenment rather than being fully within the period. His ideas on natural rights and government by consent deeply influenced later Enlightenment thinkers. How can people trying to hold a contest do SO LITTLE RESEARCH and ask such specious questions?! I swear that academia today is just floundering.
Yeah, my buddy Jim Crow wants to test voters so that only those who meet the minimum intelligence requirements can participate in the vote. Seems like a great idea, I don't know why they made it illegal
