Very impressive but, at the risk of sounding my age, £50k is a bit hard to swallow for a Mazda. The price of new cars these days is becoming ridiculous. Perhaps I'm just out of touch.
This is why my only comment on price is that people should decide for themselves. I’ve been shocked at shows recently when things like the MG Cyberster are £60k for a “little roadster”, or as I say in the video, Range Rovers for £200k+. My mind is stuck at 2014 prices when you could buy a new Fiesta ST for £16,995! I would personally buy a very low-mileage used CX-60, as the owner of this car did - huge saving!
Much appreciated, thanks! Looking at lots of mic and sound options, ended up reverting to GoPros for the time being but should be sorted with some wireless lav mics in the near future 👍🏼
You'd be quicker 0-62 in the sequential auto in paddle shift sports manual mode no power pauses between your manual changes...none of that clutch stuff.
Hi Tiff. I have a 2009 xkr which i bought from new and its defo a keeper! However, i totally agree re the stone age inability to connect an iphone. It has usb but sometimes works and sometimes does not. But…..recently i found a mr 12 volt system for £340 which i have bought and will be installing soon. It looks a bit of a fiddly job, but i see on the forums that others have fitted it and are pleased with it so will give it a try. It dies tge same thing..ie you get carplay etc. Just wondered if you had heard of this bit of kit and if you had any opinions on it ?
Hiya, I’m no expert but I have had a look at this recently - it uses the MOST fibre optic and like you say is much cheaper. I’ve only seen a couple of threads on the 12 volt (we may have seen the same ones given how new it is!) but it seems to work just as well. I hope we see some quotes for the installation made public soon, it seems like a better value option on the whole 👍🏼
Well I got the bezel off finally and fitted it all in yesterday. I have to say it works very well indeed and I am very pleased with it. There is no reason why anyone with some diy knowledge can’t fit it as long as you take it steady.
I had my Apple CarPlay fitted by cartronics about 2 years ago , it was still £1600 then , they couldn’t enable the AUX on a 2014 XKR 5.0 Supercharged , so we have connected it via the MOST system (fibre optic) , this gives you one more switch in the glovebox where the usb lead is, it’s very easy to use , either plug it in or Bluetooth it. For me it was worth every penny to bring such a gorgeous car up-to date. 👍
I thought the earlier cars had an AUX input already, and a 30-pin and USB under the armrest. Not my area of expertise I’m afraid but you can always speak to a car audio place to find a solution, or get an FM adaptor or Bluetooth adaptor thingy if you want a quick plug and play solution👍🏼
No need for AUX with a new kit available as it uses a MOST connection, you need to remove the infotainment system and fit an extra board but it's really straightforward no soldering needed. You can switch between AA or Carplay and steering buttons for volume or tracks. I paid less than £300. Also just got AAWireless working with it and Torque Pro so now have dials for temps like oil, coolant and gearbox
Nice video! Just FYI in the meantime we came up with a solution to activate the AUX in 2010MY-onward XKs without needing a password anymore, but you still need SDD...
Actually we've released a patch to make AUX activation on 2010+ XK(R)s a lot easier, password generator is NOT required. And with this patch its possible to retrofit a backup camera too) As far as i remember Cameron already posted it on a jaguarforums in a X150 section
I installed the Old Jaguar kit in 2020 and highly recommend doing it. My 2007 XK's only fault, as far as i was concerned, was the ancient Infotainment system. I've had my XK for 12 years now, and it's been the best car I've ever owned.
That looked like a lot of fun. I've always wondered how you warm your car up before such a short blast. Is there somewhere to run your car for a while ?
It was great fun! Yes on a cold day can leave your car running in the paddock while you're with it (and you have to queue to get on track), but if you want you can start off with slow runs and build them up through the day 👍
@@TiffLangham thanks. I've heard the 5 litre supercharged is a bit of a handful with traction. I've got the 4.2 supercharged and my traction light comes on when I'm having a bit too much fun so I reckon you had to be pretty careful!
@@TiffLangham yep, fun times! The original Top Gear review of my car shows Jeremy Clarkson power sliding at 110mph so I'd definitely say it's a feature!
Thanks for watching! The two I refer to are Cartronics (Byfleet), and Oxford Car Audio. There are others fitters available of course, but those two were the ones that kept popping up as recommendations from others who retrofitted the kit before I did 👍🏼
Hi mate i was interested if you had any complain about hardtop use. Sealing, noise, etc. I would use this car daily and i was wondering if the hardtop was better on highway for noise reduction or stuff like that.
Nice! Look forward to watching. Which company did you use? I’m about to take my XKR on a loop around Europe, would you recommend getting sorted before I go?
I used Cartronics in Byfleet, I’ve seen some people have used Oxford Car Audio amongst various others. It’s definitely a game changer for convenient music, calls and maps (particularly for up-to-date maps!) so I’d strongly recommend it. Enjoy your trip! 👍🏼
Hi Tiff! Just about to take the plunge and buy an XK Dynamic R myself in the next week and noted you have CarPlay. I didn’t know this was an option but happily surprised. May I ask how much that retrofit cost, and where you got it done please?
Congratulations on the new XK! CarPlay can be done through lots of places now, I used Cartronics in Byfleet but I know of others who have used Oxford Car Audio. Can't say I have any complaints, but none of the fitters I know of are particularly cheap; most quotes I've heard are £1200ish+. Hope that helps!
Yours has 18.5 HP and should do 105 km/h (about 65). The main thing that goes wrong is the timing. They can be set static timing with a 12v checklight (which is easy to make). Then ther is centrifugal advance, which means the faster the engine runs the more timing you should get. Sometimes this mechanism gets stuck and then this means the car doesn't like to rev. You need the Haynes Manual which explains it all, it is simple to do and really makes it run well. BTW I have a 650cc with some Abarth stuff and that does 145kmh... (it is a bit scary), which is 90mph. Yours is a 500F same as here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rDXo2d1XO_A.html
Is this something that could be added to a 2019 Lusso Plus? Pardon the possibly stupid question; I’ve only had her about three months so I’m still a newb. ✌️
Unfortunately, but we made the most of it! 👍🏼 +10 petrolhead points to everyone who came out in their classic roadsters like the little Healey; true commitment!
Your microphone records very low bass sounds when you record your video. When listening to your video with speakers or headphones, these sounds are disturbing. And with my speakers, our neighbours can also hear that you are driving your car. The lowest sounds below 50Hz can be filtered with a suitable filter, e.g. in a video editing program. Nice videos though. Had a Fiat Cope 20VT 350Hp 400Nm for 20 years. Now an XJ X350 V8 and aiming at an XK 5.0 NA. Driving in tunnels is fun but believe me that some day you say "Been there done that". There are more sounds in silence. Took me 40 years to get there.
Thanks for the feedback, I’m just using GoPro mics while this is a hobby, but as we grow (and if we make any money out of it), it will all be reinvested into new mics and Final Cut Pro etc.
Ok, thanks for your answer. I don't think that you need any new gear as your sound is ok. The deep base is actually an outcome of having a capable mic and recording setup. But it is a standard procedure in video and sound editing to cut low base as these come from wind or like in your case the road noise. So I would not be surprised if you could do this with the programs that you are using. Google how to and you will probably find some advice. Nice videos so keep on doing.
You’ve taught me something there! I’ve done a bit of googling and can’t see that the 124 has an AC cutoff - not sure if that’s by dint of being an MX-5 underneath, or if it just doesn’t have it. I like the concept though!
That’s a bit strange because mine’s a 2012 too! T2r6547mmu are the ones in my video, they definitely fit with the same plug and same little torx screw 👍🏼
