Budget MTG decks for Magic the Gathering. My goal is to make Budget Magic Decks for Modern so new players to magic can have fun and play competitive deck without having to spend $100 of dollars. I currently upload a new budget deck every other Friday. I aim to educate and inspire people who play MTG for fun or competitively.

Keep it simple = basically copy magic the gathering, rename some stuff, tweak like two things, then profit. Why create a game of it's just a now convoluted and lesser version of Magic? Legit question
The idea that the cards have a healthy side and another side with a destroyed version is quite pleasant and immersive, but personally I don't really like cards with two faces. If all the cards were single-sided then I could just use clear card envelopes/sleeves and seal them so I never open them... but double-sided cards (like Magic's werewolves) force me to buy those special one-sided sleeves, transparent in just one face and the other with a color, since if it were not done (using the cards in natural, sleeveless, as they are purchased and as one would assume they should be used) then it would be easy to identify the card in the deck. And in addition to the additional expense (because those sleeves are more expensive than the common transparent two-sided ones) there is the issue that I would have to keep taking the card out of the sleeves and putting it in every time I use it in a game (turning the card in the sleeve every time, for example, the werewolf transforms), which contributes to the deterioration of the card.
Very good art, and I would have been totally into this just for that kobold character. I'am one of those ;D 24 miles for 1 day of travel? Ohh, but 1 hour being equivalent to 1 mile... well, then we are actually talking about 12 miles for each day of travel, that last one is more reasonable; In exploration with hexagons, the ideal is usually between 6 to 12 miles, the size of each hexagon, not 24. We must remember that it is a trip on foot through wild uncivilized territory, if there were at least one dirt or stone road the trip would be a lot faster (for example, I am capable of doing 24 miles in just over 6 hours at a fast pace without stopping but doing it on the side of an asphalt road, nothing like doing it on wild land). The exploration and colonization of an unknown wild territory is exciting... but I think in this campaign it was approached a bit too blankly, it seems like there was literally nothing in that place and nothing was connected to the characters to get them more involved. You could have taken the Kingmaker campaign from Pathfinder 1e as an example, where there is much more context given, having an entire kingdom in the north that organizes the exploration and conquest of the wild territory (in addition to the promise that a vassal kingdom will be founded of those lands and the founders, the player characters, will be the first new nobles/governors; that gives more motivation, in addition to the fact that in the player's guide backgrounds were given for the players to choose that gave extra touches of history to the characters to give them more motivations and hooks with the world and the plot. Curiously, when you arrive at the "explorable map" the first place you reach is also a hex with a settlement even smaller than the one you gave here (although it was not as isolated because there was a paved road that led directly to the kingdom in the north, and as soon as you reached that fort stockade you had to defend it from an attack by the bandits that infested the lands... so there was soon something to do besides a mission to collect resources). Or even taking as an example the D&D campaign Tomb of Annihilation, which although it was much scarcer in context or hooks, had more than one settlement on the coasts of the territory to explore and much larger/important and with more detail than just a hamblet of 5 houses (and it had several defined NPCs, for example a few people who could be hired as guides who had their own little history and private interests). If you wanted to do something in the style of the first settlers who arrived on the shores of the United States... ok, but then you would have to have created quite a few interesting NPCs both among the settlers and among the indigenous people who were already interacting with the town and that's it... so that it feels not so improvised and empty, that already relations settlers-native were taking place (and then some politicking/truces and conflicts of interest, intrigues would get involved). Like even Pathfinder's Kingmaker did by placing a neutral tribe of kobolds in the middle of a problem and a band of bandits using those wild lands as a hideout. I don't know... maybe that was because the campaign was abandoned, if the players lost desire/interest (or maybe they were all suddenly presented with something that took up all their time at the same time?). Or maybe they just didn't like scouting campaigns? Although well, I have been in many campaigns that are abandoned not many sessions after starting. Perhaps it is because today there are many more distractions and other entertainment than there were in years past. Especially with movies, series and video games.
This was fascinating to listen to. I've probably listened to it like 4 times already! 🤣 I have been dying to create a TCG forever, centered around a story I've been writing for FOREVER. I still actually have my own prototypes from years back when I was a precocious 6th grade girl. I love TCGs surrounded by monsters and magic, but you know what's funny? Not once have I played any card game! Maybe a little bit of poker, but that's about it. Even back then, in 6th grade, I did not really know what I was doing. Never came up with game rules for it as it felt daunting. All I did was create the monster in my head, slap it on an index card, and add a bunch of random stats, and zeroes to its power and health, making the majority of them pretty much solo all of fiction. 🤣 If you look at my old cards, you'd be flummoxed how to even play it! I don't think you even could!😂 I want to get back into collecting Magic The Gathering cards. Just for the sake of collecting them. Pokémon too. I had some cards I loved, though they weren't very powerful like Chartooth Cat/Cougar and Forest Lynx. Unfortunately, these cards and many others, even a lot of the ones I created, are lost to time...😭 I want to thank you for this video, I found it very helpful! I will be borrowing some ideas from it for my TCG, but I will put other things in it so that it is still unique and original! 😁💜
not much is new under the sun . i dont remember the last mechanic or rule that wasnt done from some other game before. the turns/rounds thing seem more popular with Living Card Games, the only TCG ive played that used that was panini tcg.
I just found this deck in a box of stuff beneath the bed. Sleeved up and ready to go. I had a lot of fun playing this back when it was still possible to play such a modest deck in Modern.
Oh gosh I found you again through this series! I don't think I've been here since your Grotzod minecraft days. Loving this series as I've recently picked back up my own homemade CCG. Keep up the good work! <3
@@GiantMonsterGames you sure did a pretty good job, and it wasn't boring or the type of video that the person talk a lot about non important things. Keep the good work, you will be great on this niche pretty soon
Nice bro!! Keep up the hard work, looks good! On a side note, keep pumping out those budget modern decks. Love watching and learning new techs without needing to sell my underwaist coin purse.❤
I played Minotaurs back in 2015 to 2019 and had a surprising level of success through the Infect meta back in the day. You want to play Gnarled Scarhide as your one drop. A Savannah Lions seems weak until you realize Minotaurs is basically budget Slivers and a Sliver with Savannah Lions stats is slick. A full playset of Ragemonger is a must for those explosive turn four plays. The deck is a slow aggro deck but Ragemonger will definitely go a long way to help. Also, Thoughtseize. ToT will buy enough time to build that intimidating board state or possibly protect our creatures from being brutalized. Another card which is incredible in the deck is Whip of Erebos. Lifelink will be helpful to give us a buffer since we are all space bar, no brakes. It also helps give a late game. Minotaurs are terrible at keeping cards in hand, being able to bring back a lord on turn five or six can be the difference between a win or loss. Finally Bloodrage Brawler is psychotically good in this deck. The deck wants to be Hellbent with large bodies on the battlefield and a 4/3 body on turn two is very large especially after a lord or two. The video is correct, the deck hasn’t really seen any new toys worth playing since Amonkhet so it’s a very difficult deck to play. Hope some of these tips help, good luck and Godspeed.
Wow thanks for the awesome wright up. This is super useful and definitely something I’ll consider. I had a ton of fun playing the deck and honestly think it is only one or 2 steps aways from being a viable deck in modern.
I love that you are back, I used your first older mono black control deck to get into modern, I will probably need to build this one and play it as well.
Thanks for the warm welcome back. It's been fun getting back into video making and magic. I think this one has some legs but the Win Cons need some work (for the budget version at least) if you have some cash there are lots of good win cons in black.
I would have gone with RW to run Boros Reckoner(which is a minotaur) so I can play a full set of Fanatic of Mogis. Then swap the Unearths for Recommission.
While Boros Reckoner is a good card in its own right, it’s an odd duck in the strategy. Fanatic of Mogis, on the other hand, can be good in the correct meta it’s just not an all the time card. It’s like Master of Waves in Merfolk, sometimes it’s a god tier finisher and other times it’s too slow to really get there and is a one time Tim when it does.
Minotaur tribal lol I hope Wizards keep printing support for less popular tribes. Enough Elves, Zombies and Dragons! Give me Wurms, Oozes, Insects, Moonfolk, Giants and "Cow-tribal" (Aurochs, Oxen and Boars because why not).
