It's antics like this that made me hate the device and the company. It's vastly overrated despite it's limited capabilities. It's also not that comfortable to use. Specially compared to devices like the AYN odin 2, retroid pocket 3 plus, 4 pro(Both with grips) and anbernic RG556. I just don't give a damn anymore on it's screen and FPGA gimmick anymore with that asking price.
Yeah it can definitely feel alienating and like a cash grab. You’re right, Retroid Pocket 3 was legit and I love mine. Don’t own any Anbernic but I hear good things.
Even niche hobbyists have their limits. I expect it's still profitable to make the device, but charging so much definitely isn't doing them any favors. Also, while many no doubt are willing to upgrade, I imagine most are content with their plastic version which they already paid a lot of money for. These systems aren't cheap, so an upgrade is asking a lot when many people likely took a great deal of time considering buying the device to begin with for its insanely high price. It's more authentic to have a plastic device anyway. The original Game Boy wasn't cased in aluminum and people loved it all the same. I don't know, if it were me, I'd never pay that much even for the plastic version, but I do think it's a very sleek system that's great for an authentic experience if you, for some reason, want third-party hardware to play first-party physical games. Personally, if I'm paying that much, I'm just going to buy a Game Boy. I'm sure there are great battery options by now to replace the old AA battery system. My old GBA had one, after all. When I last checked on it and it was dead, I unscrewed the battery component from it and just used it as a replacement battery cover, but I kept the parts in the _extremely_ slim chance I could ever find a battery replacement to fit in there.
I wonder what if any impact that could have on the resale market, broadly speaking. I sold my LCD Steam Deck when I got my Asus ROG Ally as a gift. I’m sure the resale value was lower after that and the OLED came out. Maybe the same thing here.
People seem to have a lot of anger towards this. They already sell a much cheaper version of the Pocket and there is clearly interest for an all aluminum case since someone made one. It's not like people cry over pricing of Ferrari or Gucci. This is a premium product with a premium product pricing. It's probably not for you and it has nothing to do with retro market going anywhere. Lambirghinis are expensive but there are still cheaper cars for the mass market.
I hear you. Who WOULDN’T want a Lamborghini, right? I guess I just wonder how sustainable something like this is for Analogue since it’s already a little difficult to get some of their other stuff. A friend of mine always says they’d print money if they just had better availability. Oh well, I’m sure I’ll see someone with one in person and then wish I’d gotten one 😂
The anger is justified, however. You can only squeeze your niche so much. Double the price for some cheap metal casing is in no way defendable. But of course you can simply not buy it. If people want to waste their cash on an overpriced plain improvement, that's their business; they have no one but themselves to blame if they wind up regretting it. A fool and their money are soon to be parted, after all.
@@Lucifronz Nobody is doing anything immoral, illegal or even wrong. Hate is rarely justified and very often plain waste of energy. Put that energy into something positive.
Same people complaining about the price of this are the same people who complained about the NT Mini price when it was available & then complained they couldn’t get one after it was sold out months later. 🙄
My favorite would be this one. But I don’t actually have one since I decided you would want it more than me! #bestfriends4life! I’m so happy you still obviously love it after all these years. It found the perfect home. ❤️
What's funny is the SNES 3ds has to be the special edition I've seen the most frequently. There's SO many of them out there. But i think there's few people that are will part with them and a lot of people who want them. It's about the same price as the Fire Emblem Fates one, which I've NEVER seen someone playing. I got Paper mario TTYD fairly recently at $95. It's in great condition though. Like better than the one you featured (mainly the box. No sticker residue, for example. The plastic of the case is just flawless. No tiny scratches, etc.) Now I never played this game as a kid, but playing it for the first time, I loved it. I think you should definitely give it a try. My biggest regret has to be selling my old PS2 and collection from my childhood. I had it for a while, but at some point I turned it into gamestop. I think i was convinced because I was mostly playing PC games, and I figured I could emulate it. I didn't have anything crazy difficult to get, but it sucks to have to rebuy it. I'm glad I didn't do that with my gamecube collection though. I refused to get rid of it. If nothing else, I still had the wii to play it on. I got some pretty expensive games, including Gale of Darkness with everything included in great shape.
i gave my friend an OG atari ET cartridge for his birthday a couple years ago, it was an awesome gift but damn i still wish i got to say i had it in my collection
Selling my Dreamcast collection. Covid year, needed more money for bills asap. All US controllers/VMUs and most Japanese exclusive Controllers/VMUs. Japanese Black VGA and LAN to go with my Sega Sports DC. Mini keyboard and Mouse. About 4 dozen games, including some of the most expensive titles for the system. I sold off 99% of my CD/DVD/Bluray collection as well. Not quite as regrettful with that though.
4 dozen games?!? 😭 💔 We almost sold all our Blu-rays recently and then decided against it. They came in handy a few times as the power company was working on the lines around here and somehow managed to knock out the internet several times for several days 🤦🏻♂️
I've played this as a kid, took the same game, and played it on a new console and it kicked my ass everytime, even with walkthroughs. Recently ive beaten it twice on that little walmart Nintendo and almost had a heart attack each time, that last level is the GOT.....damned devil. But it is off my bucket list now😁
Yeah it’s wild how a game from childhood can feel so different as a grownup. I was telling my brother the other day how it felt like it took an entire summer for us to beat the original Zelda. Now it’s a day long, maybe two day long process. Similarly I tried playing Duck Tales the other day and died so fast whereas when we were kids I swear we crushed that game 😂
Played it on my Xbox Series X, had a great time with it. I did watched the first 2 Robocop films back in the late 1990's when I was way too young to watch violent films, lol. The developers did an excellent job, they also made that awesome Terminator game a few years back.
I’ve heard great things about Terminator: Resistance. Imagine how amazing it would be if they did a remake of that RoboCop Vs The Terminator game from back in the day
they already took it down, could it be possible if you still have the zip file to make a copy of it for me and put it in a google drive link or something? I would very much appreciate it.
One other suggestion, I think the title and thumb of this vid needs to be updated. I assumed "Angry Replay" was a series you have but looking at your other vids, it seems to be a one-off and your voice doesn't sound angry at all(which is good, would've been annoying to hear 5 min of angry speaking). Maybe something more like "Why Mario Odyssey Isn't As Great As Everyone Thinks" but not those words exactly, just that kind of feel, to intrigue someone who's never heard of you. And the thumbnail should emphasize some visually interesting part of your vid, maybe highlighting one of your points, either the mermaid, Broodals, level design with an arrow pointing that says "Lazy", "Boring" or similar. Don't take those literally, just experiment based on what you've seen from other successful channels and how their thumbs emphasize something from the vid. I've seen tons of successful thumbs where the image shown in the thumb isn't even in the video, but it's a reference to something in the video and it's visually striking enough to get someone's attention
I'm not against an unpopular opinion, but I think you need more substance to your argument. I can agree that some levels lacked detail, but most were fine. The mermaid looked weird but how many people would have even remembered what it looked like if you hadn't pointed it out? The rabbits were subs for koopalings, yeah, but since they all had hat-related attacks, it wouldn't have fit with the koopalings to give a hat to them, they would've looked weird, or maybe your review would have said "Nintendo was so lazy they just gave hats to the Koopalings". Your final assessment of 6.5 out of 10 feels unnecessarily harsh. You also said "has a score of 96, but it's by no means perfect". But that's exactly why it got a 96 and not a 100. but keep making videos. I clicked when I saw the vid recommended and watched the entire thing plus gave a comment so for RU-vid's algorithm I think I helped it as much as I'm able(likes don't help the algorithm, just as how dislikes don't hurt)
Can I say how much I appreciate your comment? Seriously, you put a lot of thought and detail into your assessment and I love that we can disagree on something and be civil. 🧡 You’re right about the Broodals/Koopalings. And 6.5 may be harsh. I think after I finish Pikmin 4 and later this year after Super Mario Wonder, I’ll replay this game yet again with more open eyes.
@@nohangovergames Funny enough I originally had a longer comment critiquing each of your points but deleted most of it because I didn't want it to come across as "this is a bad video" kind of vibe. I have no issues with the video style/approach/theme, in fact I like "unpopular" opinions, I just thought the argument needed more to make a convincing case so that it didn't seem like it was unpopular just to be unpopular. I think you're fine giving 6.5 if you can explain why. Maybe compare it to what score you'd give other mario games and explain where Odyssey falls short compared to them, something like that. Or at least the reasons why it didn't deserve a 7 or 8. It may not be a 9, but I'd say it's a solid 7.5-8, with 10 being a PERFECT game(mario 64 isn't even a perfect 10, I'm not sure what game is, tbh)
I do agree that the name imprisoning war got me excited too and they really just confused all of us more by calling it that 😂 I love this game, I like the story more than Botw but they didn’t have to do that to us lawl
After my brothers brought it over to play the multiplayer together, I'm seriously tempted to get a copy myself. Though the four of us were stuck in a stalemate for hours, we did have fun 😊. I also watched them play some campaign missions against the Enhanced Vision lady and had to resist offering too many annoying suggestions.
The MCU drew in a bunch of people who hadn't been introduced to comic norms. They expect the characters they know to translate directly from format to format but someone who reads comics knows that writers and artists can have drastically different takes on the same characters and people often have a favorite version of a character.
Great review. Metroid prime is a childhood memory for me and was the introduction for the fps genre for me. Ive been a Nintendo gamer ever since I received a Gameboy color and pokemon blue for Christmas
Great review! Evil West was a must have for me since it was done by the same folks who made the rebooted Shadow Warrior trilogy. I 100%ed Evil West a week prior to writing this comment and I enjoy it's Devil May Cry meets God of War meets Doom set in a steampunk version of the old west type deal!
