I'm just a guy from Kansas with a camera who loves to travel and explore unique places in the Midwest in my free time. I love Americana, small towns and all things Route 66.
Lots of memories along state Ave late 70's and 80's Indian springs, venture, Wolco car dealers galore I remember that big sears and restaurants near the two big cemetery where grandma grandpa all my mothers side relatives are layed to rest I need to get down there and visit the Graves at 47 too many good memories
I remember that place and also the flamingo best Western by the old Indian springs my grandmother and aunt and uncle lived out on metropolitan Ave late 70's and 80's
Just to note - West Haven's owner (Tom Bush, if my memory is correct) lives in the house on the hill behind it that Mother rented for many years. The bakery was Walter's Bakery that later moved to State Ave.
It would be nice to see it opened as a motel and restaurant, but unlike motels on route 66 it would probably just attract drug dealers. There is nothing near it to attract high paying customers. It would take a lot of money to make it an attractive retro destination. I've seen this place all of my life but I never ate there or stayed there. I've just recently taken a interest in old motels. I have located the address of most of 15 motels in kcks that were on state. There are two that don't exist that I have not found the exact address of but I know approximately where they were.
My dad made a lot of iconic fiberglass statues placed along Route 66 some of which can be found in A Amazon short ebook called "The man behind the mufflerman "for only 14.00".
Nice video. Thank you for sharing. I just posted a video about the park. When you have the opportunity, please, stop by, check it out, and let me know what you think.

Everytime a person thinks they are special or better than the rest, just take a walk in an old cemetery and realize just what you are….barely a speck of dust in the endless sands of eternal time.
I'm glad to see they put a new stone up . I just replaced an old stone of my grand mothers uncle who was born in 1903 and passed in 1904 . A baby ! I'm 68 and was tired of looking at that poor little white broken marker , so I replaced it with a new one . His was broken in half and cemented together . Looked as pathetic as his short life was . No one got to know him and now they won't forget him !
Not at all. In some of Lincoln's correspondence, he indicated to her that he would not be upset if she broke it off. It was an amicable split from what the historical record shows.
You know it would be great if some amateur historians would research the facts before making statements about Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln NEVER got over the love of his life. Her name was Anne - not Mary Owens. Lincoln was depressed after Anne's death and felt very lonely. He proposed to Mary Owens out of loneliness, not love. How do I know this? I am a Lincoln historian and ghost 305 is absolutely correct in his/her statement.
Maybe try looking at the bright side? perhaps her old tombstone was so weathered that they did not want her to be forgotten and regardless of her life, a claim to fame of rejecting a proposal from the great emancipator is history worth remembering.
Excellent video! That was really interesting! But... How dare someone add that extra stone? She wasn't Lincoln' s "other Mary". She wasn't Lincoln's anything! She married someone else and raised a family and went on with her life. This is so disrespectful of her, her husband and Lincoln's ONLY Mary. Mary Todd Lincoln. His wife. His only wife. Also disrespectful to President Lincoln, reminding everyone that he was rejected by his first love. I guess the selfish oafs who put up this mockery figured everyone involved was dead so it didn't really matter. I'm surprised they didn't rob her grave of any valuables instead of just stealing her dignity.
Get over it. Maybe he was making a statement in her favor or maybe not. You have no idea whatsoever and you have made an accusation on an unqualified assumption. Go read a book.
