I heard the transmission plate makes the shifting really stiff in bad way, would you say that's the case? trying to decide if i should go with it or not, pros vs cons
It's been a while since I had the car now... but from memory it was the opposite. The added weight of this plate over stock made the shifting much smoother. The boxes in these cars are so 'notchy' out of the factory, this actually helps decrease that by weighting the lever into the gear you want (if that makes sense).
@@davesnothereman81 it does.. i guess couple of videos i saw people were complaining about it.. like it requires too much effort to shift thru gears, if anything
@@honeyrattan6486 Yeah, so the effort required is really subjective. I actually found it more 'effort' before because it was so notchy and I had to really pin point the shift. After, I found it heavier, but less 'effort'.
@@honeyrattan6486 it's like it takes more effort but in a "good" way. The throw is shorter and much more natural feeling with your arm because you're not extending so far to get to 5th gear and then you don't have that long awkward travel down to 6th either. So it does technically require more force but it still feels better. I paired mine with a weighted shift knob (500g) and now it's just as easy as it was when it was stock
I'd suggest contacting Boomba, they were really good with my questions back then when I did this. It is a lot heavier than the stock plate, so that may have something to do with it, but I don't recall mine sitting any differently after install.
I appreciate the video! I'm literally purchasing my gloss red Raceseng knob right now but decided to look at a few more pics, and this pops up. Looks like I'll be custom ordering as well!
I may pick up a Rondure in brushed aluminum this holiday season :) Oh, and your daughter is making me reconsider my "no children" policy, haha. Great stuff!
It's the factory OEM shift knob that came with my car. It's the STI shift knob. My car is a special edition so has the same interior as the STI from that year.
Thanks Eddie. I'm using the Boomba Short Shift Transmission Plate... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IXUdkK7ScCY.html So the stock lever remains, but about 30% short throws from the plate. They do also have a shorter lever, but I think it would be too short for me (claimed 50% shorter throws when using both).
Any new findings now that you've had the setup for a little while? I'm going to install the same products pretty soon including the Racseng shift knob. I'm slightly worried that shifting will be more forceful compared to the stock setup. Thanks for the vid.
Kadeam Vendryes thanks for the comment. There are a couple things... the shifting does require a little more effort and accuracy, especially the shift from 2nd to 3rd, 3rd to 2nd, and 5th to 4th. Just a symptom of them being so much closer together. Also, I find the shifting a little hard when the transmission is cold, but 10 minutes of driving and it's fine. Despite these little issues I wouldn't change it... I love the shorter throw.
Raceseng offers a thermal bag to put on it to keep it from absorbing heat. I just got the Rondure in metallic black a couple days ago and I love it! It just glides into gear without much effort on my part and it fits my hand much better than the standard shift knob. The engraving also looks awesome! I will probably buy the thermal bag in a couple months because our summers get into the 90s for a few months.
Michael Carnes thanks for the heads up. I just made it through a summer without needing a cover at all. I was surprised it didn't actually get that hot.
best bang for your buck part I've ever bought. Thanks for the awesome product. Improves shifts immensely. I had to make an install video just to show the more difficult parts. Figured I'd elaborate and show more detail on the tough parts of the install. Will definitely recommend and buy more stuff <3
@@BoombaRacing hey! I have your short shifter and plate I'm about a day out from installing it, is there a way to keep the protection shield on the transmission??
Great choice on the Boomba shifter. I really like mine even though getting that cover off the transmission isn't fun at all. Well worth the extra work! I'm jealous of your seats!
Thanks! I timed it so the car was in for the service and tune... which meant I could be lazy and get them to install while the car was in the air. ;) Seats are the STI interior which was part of the special edition here in Aus.
I love the color and finish, but can't find the satin option on their website. Is this the textured finish? Thanks a bunch! Absolutely love this shift knob and have had a hell of a time trying to decide on one...
greg dickey Thanks. You need to go into the custom order section of the site. Once you choose the knob you want then you'll be able to find Red Satin in the finish drop down menu.
greg dickey Haven't had a summer here yet with it on, but I have no doubt it will be. Any of the metal finishes will. I plan on some sort of shift cover while it cools down.
Great vid! Did you get the shift knob from Raceseng.com website? BTW, are you planning to keep your red OEM shift knob? haha I'm in Sydney and I'm interested in buying if you are not going to keep it.
Hey Ryan, yes I got it directly from their website. It's a little pricey by the time you convert to AUD but worth it in my opinion. I am keeping it sorry mate, at least for a while. I'm not anticipating any issues with the Raceseng, but like to be sure.
