People might not agree with me but as a dad watching his 9 year old son race around the track I wish there could some kind of f1 style halo or something similar that could give head on protection. Twice in 1 month I witnessed a kart spinning directly in front of another going into a corner and the kart behind been in a situation that's unavoidable due to been really close and then hitting the kart in front mounting up the nassau panel with the front nose cone hitting the child's head. I just can't help thinking that one day a child, junior or adults head might get knocked all the way back breaking the neck or even worse. Luckily on both occasions each child never received any serious injury but the visor on the helmet on one of the child's helmet was cracked. Obviously this sport is dangerous and you have to except that, but Karts have had the same similar shape now for years, I would love to see some more radical changes in design even if it does start looking more like a mini F1 car with a body all around the driver with a halo.
Toothless smile. Wait are you on KP forum? Bcs someone posted the same exact one. And now birel just released the new s18 chassis with the kg 509 nassau.
My friend sent me the photos from a discord server. They most likely all came from the same places Yes I saw the Birel is out with the 509 Nassau and what could possibly be a new nose cone aswell? Sadly I’m away at a track this weekend so won’t be able to do anything
I mean, Ellough is East England, Hooton is North England, Llandow isn’t even in England, but it Westwards of central England. Lydd and Clay are South England and Fulbeck is Midlands.
Cant imagine it doing much.. what's frustrating is when a company like OTK can do "aero" work with panels gets it homologated, but if someone trying stuff out themselves would be shut down. How much power do big kart manufacturers have with rules/Cik-Fia people
Well there was a time a decade or so back when the World of Karting was going to go 4 stroke, the likes of OTK, CRG, Birel etc kicked off so much that the cik/fia backed down. So I’d say they have a lot of sway
Yeah. Definitely can see him with a Chassis Brand. His son races on CRG atm. Which also brings me into something, why doesn’t Max have a Chassis Brand? Would be a no brainer for me considering his status and popularity
Well, its either strong chassis and soft Tyres or hard Tyres (like currently) and soft Chassis. One of which will cost to much money either way, if you want performance. :/
I know your going to think I’m being an annoying little prat please accept my apologies upfront, but it’s pronounced “Na-saw” as it’s named after the Nassau Speed Week in California 😬
Tbh, I’m really not convinced on the new bodywork. However, really interested by the brake upgrades. In comparison to other brands like the freeline stuff, I’ve felt the brakes lacking in comparison. Would’ve really wanted to see improvements to the chassis overall, as other kart brands are way ahead of the game.
Thank you for taking the time to watch the video and comment! The nose cone looks decent too me, always felt the old one was too small. I also like the bottom of the Nassau, but the aero vains at the top I can’t see doing anything. Yeah, the brake calliper and master cylinder being milled out is a nice touch
I'm not sure I like the new design of the nassau. But I'm curious to see the performance of the brakes. In my opinion the brakes on the OTK are the week point. They say it will dissipate heat better, so it's a good measure I guess
I’m Curious to know how much more the Stuff will be than the existing m7 stuff which is already a rip off (imo). The milled calliper and master cyclinder do look like nice touches though and will be interesting to see if it does lower the temp at all
Some good advice, some absolutely dangerous. No you can not drill your approved karting helmet for HANS posts. They are not approved for them, just because they have the shape doesn't mean it suitable. Also, the use of camera mounts on them is outside the design parameters of the helmet, they have not been designed or tested for them to be there, yes some organisations may allow them, good luck if you ever need the insurance coverage claim. A action camera is what got Michael Schumacher whilst skiing.
Dirty Air doesn’t exist in Short Circuit Karting. We don’t have anywhere near enough downforce or speed. Also, FWIW dirty air is in corners Slipstream is in Straights
at llandow i struggled with the hairpin at the end of the long straight (in the rain). no matter how gently I applied the brakes the kart would always lock up and the engine would 'cut-off'. is there any other method to brake in the rain from high speeds. that seemed to be where i was losing the most time. thanks!
Thank you for your comment! I did a track walk on Sunday Morning with a load of drivers. I suspect your issue under braking was braking on the racing line. The Rubber when wet turns to ice and there is no way you can stop quickly or efficiently. I am working on a video this week about driving in the wet on slicks!
Hi Sam, i know it might vary from corner to corner, but specifically in a club 100 kart, is it best to use trail braking or power braking? My problem at the moment is that I always want to carry the most speed into the corner as possible, be hard on the brakes and get out the corner but my driving style just doesn’t seem to work so I’m trying to be more conservative when braking, would either of these techniques help? Thanks
Hi Joe, I suspect you do trail braking without even realising it. I would concentrate on trying to improve that instead of trying to do power braking. In Club100 you will find trail braking far more useful
I was driving for a team on a test day to prepare for next years season and after one of the BEST sessions of my life coming into the pits I straight up drove into a wooden wall and bent my axle so bad it would make the kart bunny hop when I rolled 😂
You all need "full body armor" for moments like that!! That suit has road fash written all over it.. Are these supposed to be both fire and rash resistant? What a fail that suit is... Road rash sucks... Ask me how I know! ;). I rarely ride my motorcycle without leathers now days.. Overkill generally... Road rash suuuks though!
Karting suits arnt Fire Rated. They are meant to be Abrasive Resistant though. Karts don’t tend to catch fire, if they do it’s from a incident big enough that throws you from the kart. And yes road rash does suck
The driver who spun out- that’s a genuine mistake. A lot of newbies do that. As someone who’s actually showing us the rights and wrongs of karting, you could have been understanding of that and be more patient instead of berating him over and again with your hand gestures.
Had the same issue. A guy saw me and spun out trying to get flat out the corner, ended up completely blocking the pass and I hit him at full speed in the front...
@@Zack_knifed thanks for the comment. The original hand movement during the spin process was actually me trying to signal I was slowing down. I then hold wheel again cause I have to change directions quickly. The other hand gestures were actually me being surprised by what I had seen, reactions as ‘How, Why? Did you see that?’ I understand it may be portrayed on how you described, but it genuinely wasn’t. I actually did mention on how the driver could of saved what was happening. But it wasn’t me ribbing the driver. If the driver is yourself, or whoever else who may read this, then contact me privately and I’ll sort something out as an apology.
I was in that test session and the speed you two pulled away from me when you went past was unreal. Do you know of anywhere I can get tuition/review telemetry to work out where the time is missing please because I feel like I'm plateauing?
Most of us Club100 Test drivers do Tuition, so it would be a case of choosing who’s the most suitable. I am the only one who offers data feedback via the Alfano
Hey Sam, thanks to your lydd track guide that you uploaded onto the channel, I’ve raced there a couple times and used the video to help with braking as that’s what I mainly struggle with and slowing the kart down due to my driving style. I finished 2nd, 4th and 9th in my heats and qualified 16th, for my first ever A final!
@@joecraddock6542 Hi Joe!, i was observing the sprints for the lightweights (on back straight) and I saw you led a lot of the first heat you raced in. Till Miles caught you near the end! Well done for the first A Final (apart from the finish I guess!) I’m glad you think my guide has helped you. I need to make one for Llandow but I go on Holiday next week so I may not get a chance!
@@Wolemid it was a great first heat I thought I managed it really well and really enjoyed it. Yeah the A final didn’t turn out great but to be honest it was my fault and I apologised to Dave after the race, he was struggling with his kart and I was behind him for a couple laps and got desperate. Probably shouldn’t have but my dad said he would’ve rather I went for it than stayed behind, not sure on your opinions about it?
@@javiercasas6937 absolutely! The lines themselves will never change between karts. You may have to alter braking points to a bit later or earlier, but the general racing lines will always be the same! Good luck!
Doesnt feel very advanced/ specified to karts. I would rather have heard about tips like jumping for acceleration or leaning for grip. Your tips however are applicable to any motorracing I guess powerbraking is the outliar, I dont think its possible in rentals unfortunately
To add to a question rana asked about breaking, of I stamp on the brakes and the engine dies, I will give it gas to restart it. Does this mean I'm braking too hard? Or is this an example where I should be power braking? I had a situation in the 24hr where I hit the brakes hard and broke a chain in the braking zone, so wonder if I'm getting a bit too aggressive on the brakes
In a way, yes locking the wheels does mean you are braking to hard, but there are times and situations you want to lock up the wheels. For example, when you want to rotate the kart on entry using the rear wheels. Regards the chain, I’ve never snapped a chain from braking too hard, snapped many times from kerbs but not under braking. If you were in rentals at the 24hr it would most likely be bad kart prep
Your video really helps improve my karting career, but I have a lot of questions about power braking since i don’t see other video about power braking technique. Can it help keeping the rpm high while cornering or bring other advantages? I wonder if you can make a video about it. Thanks
Hi! Thank you for the kind words! I was considering making a video going into more detail on when and why you would use power braking and trail braking! You have cemented in that I need to do it. Also yes, power braking is to keep the revs up
Hmm… 🤔 Favorite karting story? Well, it’s always entertaining to watch amateurs spinning out, 😂 shows me what not to do. Not sure if I have a favorite one though…
yea, i just started karting, and luckily it came very very naturally, on my 3rd race i got pole in qualifying and just can’t keep it, i always end up getting 3rd, its happened 2 times in a row in the last 2 races
Hi Sam - great video, had a question about something you mentioned about power braking. Sometimes in some of the Club100 track guides I see you and some other testers fully locking up the brakes and then dabbing the throttle (assume this is to keep the clutch engaged?) before trailing to the apex. Is this quite a common practice? Especially in some videos I watched like Shenny Hairpin 1 or the Dogleg at Rissington. Many thanks :)
Hi, that isnt technically Power Braking, it’s bringing the engine back to life and re engaging the clutch. When you lock the brakes the engine will die, the engine will always restart when you put your foot on the throttle to exit the corner, but it isn’t an efficient way of braking. You want the clutch to be engaged which will 1. Mean less delay when getting on the power 2. Engine braking happens (no matter how small it will help) This is why we do it on tight hairpins, for example, like you said. Hairpin 1 at Shennington. I’m glad you like the video 👍🏻
@@Wolemid Thanks for the reply :) Is it also common in Senior Rotax/X30? It’s not something I came across watching footage of those karts so just interested to know how it comes about. I.e is it something specific to the engine package Club100 uses?
You will find in Modern Owner Karting, drivers don’t lock up as much as they used to, mainly to do with the sticky tyres. Back in the olden days, with the harder tyres it was extremely more common
@@Wolemid Makes sense :) With that in mind would you say that more aggressive style of fully locking the brakes is a common practice in Club100/rentals in general? I’ve tried testing with both for a while but it’s hard to tell how effective it is without laptimes in hand
@@ranvirmenon3399 honestly, if you watch myself and Niki drive, we have very contrasting styles, I’m smoother whereas Niki is more aggressive. We both get around the same lap times, they both work, but it’s down to finding what works best for you
When an 8-year old me started racing at Teamsport Eastleigh ('Go Karting For Fun' back then) you had to get a 'licence' to be allowed in the faster cadet kart races. In the practice session I was trying to set a sub-28s lap to 'pass' the test, going for an overtake I was squeezed against the barrier. Somehow the squeeze made my little kart jump, up in the air and flipping forward, me and the kart upside down on the one in front, with my kart half pinning me to the kart in front and half resting on my helmet. I think everyone watching was a little frightened about the trapped little boy. They dashed over and hauled the the kart off me and my helmet. Fortunately I had hurt my ankle and back but fortunately nothing worse, I limped back to race control to move onto the multiple choice quiz portion of the licence ('what does a yellow light mean?' 'which pedal is the brake?' etc ) and they informed me that fortunately I DID set a sub 28 seconds lap, I had bravely remembered the difficult answers to the test, and I was cleared to race in the cadets from then on!
i was racing in rental karts one time and i was going full speed down the straight when i felt my kart suddenly start slowing. all of a sudden about a few seconds later i saw my rear left wheel overtake me and bounce down the track. they had to stop everyone else and let me get in to another kart. they let me take the broken rear axle home as well like a souvenir so i guess i got a bonus out of it 😃🤣
Haha. Having a wheel overtake you is never the greatest feeling! 😂 however, them giving you the broken axle seems like they got rid of the rubbish for free 😂
