As an energy engineer with enough programming/data expertise to be dangerous, this was a great podcast. I've worked for a few retailers with large portfolios and they all lack the broad visibility and proactive analytics to really get on top of their portfolios. So just using AI/ML to provide visibility (which I am working on with my current employer) would be huge.

Wouldn't it be a lot less expensive to simply replace his existing gas boiler with an efficient gas boiler? It sounds like both solutions are expensive and ASHP costly and disruptive to install for older houses, so maybe get a new gas boiler and play the waiting game when in 5-10yrs time efficiencies and alternatives are more viable and appealing?

That customer who has a single ducted unit for the entire bungalow is me! 10kw mitsubishi unit on a 1960s bungalow. Did bonded bead cavity wall insulation and put 400mm of loft roll in covering all the duct work. Cheap bills! Cool in the summer and toasty in the winter. Couldn't be happier! And as I didn't have a combi boiler or rads previously the cost of putting a gas boiler in was double that of the ducted unit. It's quiet, powerful and I'd never go back to gas!

My mitsubishi AC units are god damn trash. Auto mode is not working for shit. Heating mode is not working for shit. Cooling mode not working for shit. Auto mode doesn’t keep a temperature, it always gets too hot. Cooling mode keeps on cooling well below what is set in the settings. Heating mode keeps heating well beyond the set temperature. If I set 21c for heating, it heats up to 24. For cooling if I set 22 it coold below 20. Going into the app, it displays the wrong indoor temperature until I change to another setting, like from heating to cooling, where it suddenly realizes, oh shit, it’s not 21 like it’s set to, it’s 24, gotta cool. Worst AC units I’ve ever had the displeasure of using. Now even issues with their damn app where it takes a minute between the unit updating and you changing a setting.

You don’t advise the help desk workers that you are recording the conversations and you are publishing their names and voices without their permission?

there, isnt... the filter son ducted units arent suitable for the filtering.. in addition you will be drawing in hot air during the summer. You could get a small MVHR unit (Blauberg) and pass the air into the unit

I like what heatgeek promote and intend to apply as much of what they teach into my self build install. But i have two issues/concerns. 1. Following heatgeeks own videos on comparing a highly efficient gas boiler 90% vs an ashp scop 4, the running costs based on my accurate heat loss survey, the saving was only £220 per year. The higher price of an ashp service in my area means half of that saving is lost, so over 10 years it would be £1100 saved. 2. I'd like to install an ashp, but the £7500 grant is being absorbed by the installer and not received by the home owner and it feels corrupt. To have an ashp fitted to a new build plant room only, the quotes for parts and labour was 16 to 18 grand vs a gas boiler at just under 10 grand. £8000 difference. Yes i would be eligble for a £7500 grant to bring the ashp price down to lets say 10 grand matching the gas install, but both installs were 5 to 6 days work. The ashp and components are around 3k more than gas, that that should make the total 13k, not up to 18k. When questioning why the quotes are so high, I'm told that the MCS grant paperwork takes up so much time that they need to charge more, or, it needs to cover all the training costs for the ashp and if you dont like it then fit it yourself, you do the training, we will simply find customers who will pay 18k and recognise our worth. This seems like a poor attitude. Any installer also has to pay for their gas training but each customer shouldnt cover the cost of all the installers training on each job. This is clean new build, plant room only install and not a huge job.
