The Tampa General Hospital channel is the place to watch videos about some of the procedures available at TGH, hear from some of our patients and get information about what is going on at TGH.
I am seizure free for a year now taking 1000mg of Keppra every day. My surgeons also pinpointed the cause of the seizures which can be removed with this procedure with an approx. chance of 50-70%. I am worried about the post surgery effects like losing my language skills and much more. Would you recommend staying on the medication for probably my whole life or do the temporal lobe resection?
Dr. Politz took care of me and he and his team were so great! Drove from Oklahoma. The place I was referred to in Norman had one rude nurse that I didn’t want to deal with. Rude when only trying to get referral through and their fax wasn’t working for me or the PCP sending. So I decided to reach out to Dr. Politz that a person on FB from OK recommended. So glad I did. Everything turned out fabulous. All of Dr. Politz’s team were kind, helpful and responsive💫. My surgery went great and I feel so much better. 🙌 He has all the most recent updated technology for best outcomes as well! Thank you Dr. Politz and all of his team and TGH staff involved in my care the end of December. 💗 It was fun going to Florida too!
This is the first time I searched these videos. I had this exact surgery iav been free for a year and a half now i went 7 years fighting had test after test my medicine changed multiple times finally it was pin pointed and I went threw with the procedure I was down to the point where my medicine Wasn't working and the seizures were getting worse It was either have it done or have potential Seizures that could and my life or make me a vegetable Scariest thing in the world. I have been great sense. I haven't had one incident. I'm reducing medicine right now. I'm back to driving working My life is back to normal. I have a amazing story and a bad ass battle scar. I cannot Express how grateful I am. Thank you OHSU in portland oregon
I had this surgery in St. Louis MO in 1998. It changed my life! Before surgery, I had been told I would never be able to work, drive or live alone. By the time was 19 I was having multiple seizures daily. I am truly blessed!
I had Interstim surgery, a nurse tech just trained by Metronics, decided he knew a better programme, than the one selected in the OR. I have gone nine months without any improvemnt. Then, I was given botox, still no difference. After seeing a new Gyn/Urologist, she provided four custom programmes. The first one she put me on provided considerable improvement after several hours. I am also scheduled to have Bulkamid. Not keen that it is made from Polyacrylamide, which was banned in China in 2006. I am still desparate to have relief from incontinence made worse by Radiation therapy after cancer.
I had my first seizure at 3 years old, earlier that day I had gotten vaccinated, later that night I had a 105.5 degree fever and had my first seizure, “febrile seizure”, since then I’ve had multiple seizures over the last 12 years, EVERY doctor I’ve went to had said “no, if it’s just a febrile seizure that will not result in permanent epilepsy” so the past 2 weeks I’ve been doing research to find out it’s proven people who have febrile seizures in their younger years can get epilepsy, it’s just sad that the medical industry can’t own up to their mistakes. I’m currently 15 and supposed to be getting my DL in less than a year but sure they’ll turn me down with my epilepsy, medication failed me and I’m just stressed out of my mind, what steps should I take from here?
I had one of these placed at and within a few days I developed a fever. I went to the ER and they had to be transfer to another hospital via ambulance which was the level 1 trauma center for my area. I developed a very bad infection from the surgery to the point of being borderline septic. They had to go back in and remove the device and the leads and everything. I woke up in the PACU and was out of my mind violent (i don't remember any of that part but the nurses told me what I had done) it was to the point they had to place me in 4 point restraints which was an incredibly traumatic way to wake up being tied down and the staff yelling at me. Then there was the pain.I don't recall being violent at all as all the anesthesia was still in me. The staff at least did not blame me because they knew I had no idea what I was doing with all the drugs they had put in me. I was in the hospital for a week.. They had to place a PIC line in me before discharge that I had to go home with and I had to receive IV antibiotics 3 times a day for 3 months through it! This procedure is not without risks. I was told if they had waited another day I would have be full on septic and very possibly could have died. Also of note, I was a very healthy person going into this procedure, very active and incredibly fit. All surgery has risks even something like this. I could have died. Doctors like to gloss over the risks, but trust me the risks are real.
It is considered permanent. So unless they have a giant leap in medical advancement in regards to bladder control, you will likely wear it the rest of your life.
For me it took a couple of days to really notice the difference then more improvement as time went on. Some say it can work in hours depending on the settings
No I have had mine for both fecal and urinary incontinence and the unit is not painful. The stimulation is set to your comfort level. I do not feel my kegels normally unless I am very relaxed. Mine is ready to be updated due to battery life.
About 7 years my doctor did a Rezum procedure that worked for couple years. A a year ago he remove tissues of my prostate but didn't ressolve m y wake up at 7 times. Right now he says the next procedure is Interstim system. Y hope be succesfully with method to rest properly. Thank for this video
Bad advice. :( too many doctors just don’t know what to do with the diagnosis. It will take its toll on you. It is insidious and the symptoms creep up in you until you are like what is wrong with me?!? It is the HPTH! :(
I am 52 years old and actually I’ve had surgery at Tampa General and they took such good care of me when I had to have diastasis surgery and two layers of mesh put in my stomach due to many other past surgeries ended up taking 6 1/2 hours because of all the scar tissue. My doctor was phenomenal. That was 2 years ago. Now I have hypercalcemia 10.8. My hyper parathyroid levels are 182 and my primary doctor called me last week from home during tropical storm debbie to tell me my ultrasound looks like I have cancer And now I’m learning all about other reasons why this could be my head hurts. My heart hurts. I am so scared and nobody can help me until I finally go to the ENT and endocrinologist.
My advice is seek out someone who deals with Parathyroid Tumors, I had one, when he removed it, he was giving me my photo of it, he said, that I had it for 30 or more years. Realizing I had it before my 1st. Daughter was born. So I was making the wrong decisions even back then. I had my 1st in 1978 I had no idea. My second was born in 1980, my 3rd was born in 1983. I finally had it removed in 2018. My life has never been the same.
I had my first interesting system placed in 2018. It worked like a charm for three months and then not so well with reprogramming numerous times over the first two years it was good there after it was great. I would highly recommend this system if your having bladder/bowl issues. I had a New system put in the beginning of April of this year. It’s working great other than I think that my body is rejecting the right device. Has anyone had this happen to them?
I've had a suprapubic catheter for many years..my bladder is very small & having the catheter for so many years I very little to no muscle control when I do have an urge to urinate. Very difficult to hold..Would I be a good candidate & not need the suprapubic catheter any longer?
I'm getting ready to go through testing with probable implantation. I will also be having a total knee surgery 5 months from now with a possible spinal anesthesia. Will the implant interfere with spinal anesthesia?
I had a lumbar laminectomy seven years ago. It left me numb from the waist down and I get bladder spasms 10 1215 a day I can’t take it anymore so tomorrow morning I go in for a temporary and if it works will go with a permit I pray it works. There’s no other option Botox injection 15 different meds nothing has worked…
