The Ouse & Adur Rivers Trust (OART) is dedicated to the environmental protection and enhancement of the Sussex River Ouse, the River Adur and their tributaries
Many thanks! Yes, would be lovely to get more views. We've tried via our social media channels... And yes, we have plenty more river restoration projects on the go across the Ouse and Adur catchments. Get involved if you're interested! You can always join our membership, volunteer or River Ranger lists. Cheers
Very informative presentation. As a lifelong Sussex resident, it's great to see that the Sea Trout are still running up our rivers and I didn't realise just how resilient and flexible they are.
Hello, thank you for the lovely film, very helpful! Could you give some feedback with regards to the different materials used - what did the bees prefer from the bamboo, nettles and fennel stems. Ta!
Hi Alexander, different species of bee like different sized holes to nest in so it's best to try a variety of sizes/materials and see which ones get used. Nettles tend to be smaller, bamboo can be most sizes and fennel offers the largest stems usually. The bees can occupy surprisingly small spaces!
Thanks for this video! I am thinking of starting to take moulds of prints that I find out bush for educational purposes. If a paw print is well preserved and has a lot of texture, does this mould pick up all of that texture?
Have a pair of elderly dogs romping in my muddy backyard at the moment, and the idea to capture their happiness in this way struck me. Thought I'd hit up the internet for advice and landed here. Cheers for this.
If you’re sawing the Bamboo in a bundle, would it help to fit the tin over the end of the bundle, both as a guide to cut against and also hold them firm and make sawing easier?
Thanks Peter, yes sometimes we have done that, but it can make it harder to get a good grip on the bundle as you're sawing. Thanks and good luck if you're making one!
Great to hear James. The Dragon is slowly being absorbed into the bank and vegetation but is now looking more like a real fossil find. Glad you enjoyed the EPIC river trail!
How has this helped insects? Like butterflies and bees? Great video, great work. Everyone involved should be so proud of themselves. This is a great teaching aid for the younger generations. Thanks for showing the cute fox face.
Hi. Thanks for your comment. There's lots more habitat for insects, butterflies and bees. Alongside the river channel and banks which are filled with wild flowers, we have planted 6 acres of wildflower meadows (perfect for pollinators and many insects). The south facing banks of the channel are now filled with mining bees. Our species monitoring has shown an increasing abundance and diversity of insects across the board including rare species like nomada zonata, a new leaf hopper and scarce blue-tailed damselfly.
@@ouseandadurriverstrust Thank you for your informative reply. I think more insects, the better it helps all flora and fauna, excepting gnats and biting bugs..
Hi Keith. Many thanks! Yes, somehow there are about 5 monster carp in the river. I also spotted some minnow and a larger fish with red fins (possibly rudd) on that day so it seems to be teeming (also with some native fish).
Hi Karin, that's great to hear. We have a bat expert on the team who has done regular bat walks in Sompting. I'll pass on the info to her and see what we can do. All the best
That was really informative thank you. I realised that the bird box we have has never been nested in by our wrens and robins because it's the wrong type of box. We will make them a new box for the tree. Thank you
Many thanks. Really glad you liked it and found it informative. Great to hear you will make the robbins and wrens a new nest. Please post us a picture to our community facebook page if you manage to make one (and join us there to share info): facebook.com/groups/3005769709475534/
That was really informative thank you. We have really enjoyed sitting in our garden in Sompting these last few weeks trying to identify the birds. We have a very beautiful Wren in our plum tree
Hi Sarah. Many thanks. Really glad you liked it. If you managed to make a bird box we'd love to see it. Post pics or join our community for updates and info here: facebook.com/groups/3005769709475534/
