Mv7+ or rode podmic usb which one is good?
@RayOrtega
@RayOrtega 4 дня назад
I've never tried the PodMic USB version, only the OG PodMic but this question seems to have popped up a couple times recently so I hope I can try it out some time and compare. Personally I think the look and function of the MV7+ would probably be my choice, I really like the noise reduction built in but again, I haven't tried the PodMic USB. I think it would probably come down to which one you think sounds better on your voice.

Thanks for commenting on this old video! It made me go back and watch the entire thing and got to see so many great memories! This cam, in terms of 1080p is still very good. You could certainly do a whole youtube channel with it and I think my comments in the section re: 4K are still pretty relevant. I think most of youtube is still 1080p so I don't think not having 4K would be a deal breaker if you were able to get this cam for a great price.

Hey, which is better rode podmic usb or mv7 plus on usb mainly?
@RayOrtega
@RayOrtega 7 дней назад
From a sound perspective, it's subjective. Whichever one you think sounds better or you think fits your voice better, is better. They are both great. I haven't tried the PodMic USB, I only have the XLR version but it's a great mic. What I love about the MV7+ is that the settings are stored on the mic itself so they can be used on other devices without the software and the noise reduction is really good. If the PodMic has both of those, then it will come down to whichever you think sounds better.

Hi Ray, thanks for the to the point explanation with example for low cut feature on the recorder, my question is that I got Sennheiser MKE 400 shotgun mic for DSLR, I film weddings with my lavalier as well, should I keep the low cut filter ON during my recording or assess the situation, mind you weddings are busy with full of noises people chattering or background music at hall, kindly let me know, thanks.
@RayOrtega
@RayOrtega 9 дней назад
Hi, Mike. Thanks for the feedback. Every mic has a different level at which they cut the lows. I don't like to cut above 80Hz on my mic and in fact in almost all cases I don't use low cuts because I'm going to do that in post production anyways, where I can choose how much to cut. If you do it on the mic, you are kinda stuck with that setting. If it was me, I would record without it and just add a cut in post. Sometimes a low cut is used for wind noise but you usually have to cut too much to reduce the wind so I would definitely make sure to have a windscreen/sock if recording outside.

Probably a stupid question but would this mic ever be mounted ON the camera itself if a rare situation comes up where I need to outside my typical environment (like a run and gun situation).
@RayOrtega
@RayOrtega 16 дней назад
Typically no, but could you...sure ;) It has a 1/4"20 thread on the bottom so you could get a mount that would allow you to do it however I don't see it being very useful, it's in no way made to do that and since it's a condenser mic., it will transfer even the smallest noise made by handling the camera. But this mic system has a mic that pairs with the receiver that IS made for exactly that. So, same receiver, different mic, made for wearing like a lav for camera work amzn.to/4etp8J2

@RayOrtega
@RayOrtega 17 дней назад
Hard to tell since every device acts differently. I don't think the audio 'cutting' is a mic issue or if it is something may be broken that this won't fix, again hard to know but there is a USBC version of this mic that might work with the tablet amzn.to/3XLwy4O says it works with Android. Worth a shot but make sure you can return it for free if it doesn't work for you. With my Prime membership it says it has free returns but check whatever you have.

How is the quality with Bluetooth compared to the Receiver?
@RayOrtega
@RayOrtega 20 дней назад
Seems pretty equal to me. Seems like they figured out how to make BT work really well and in fact part of their marketing for this mic is their "proprietary wireless software." And I think that also means that if you are going direct to phone or the receiver, it's using the same tech aka the BT. I see in the specs it's 50Hz to 20KHz so maybe the choke point on many BT systems is a more limited frequency spectrum. Not sure exactly but the mic sounds good to me.

what if my input cable DOES have 2 (TRS) but is only recording one channel?
@RayOrtega
@RayOrtega 22 дня назад
A lot of mics (usually lavs) will have a TRS connector however they are still sending just a mono signal. The input on most cameras will be a stereo input therefore the audio is still only going to go to one (left) channel. The adapter will still work because it sums that mono signal to both channels in most cases. But even without the adapter, this is very easy to fix in your editing software. I prefer to not use adapters so if you just stick with 'fixing it in post' that works too.

Thanks for the advices. How does the lavalier microphone behave in a room where everyone is talking to each other during a zoom meeting? Can Zoom noise reduction be enough to isolate the sounds of other people talking around the room?
@RayOrtega
@RayOrtega 25 дней назад
Honestly in that situation, all mics are going to pick up the background noise. Most lavs are omnidirectional condensers so they pick up even more background than something like a handheld mic. Noise reduction is going to deal more with room sounds like heating and air conditional/fans more than it's going to isolate voices. But if you are on a Zoom call, only one person should be speaking at a time, unless you are in a room where people are on different Zoom calls and then you are going to hear people talking in the background.

So if you hook up your phone you can use it as a recorder? All 4 mics will be sending a recording to your phone which in turn u can save on your phone or tablet as one recording?
@RayOrtega
@RayOrtega Месяц назад
The phone demo I show in this video via the phone input is for brining phones into the P4, so if you had a host on the phone (remote) you could bring them into the conversation. However, it can be used as an audio interface which means you might be able to bring it into a phone via USB but I haven't tested that. Back when I had this device, iPhones didn't have USB. And I would imagine that it would depend on if the type of phone you have supports USB interfaces. Most audio interfaces work with newer iPhones that have USB-C so I imagine it could be used to bring multiple mics into those phones, you'd then have to have an app that supports multichannel or if using a regular recording app, you would likely get a stereo mix of all the mics plugged into the P4 and you'd then record that via the app.
@Swabpodcast

@@RayOrtega I received it yesterday. I was able to get my test audio to my MacBook Pro, but the phone feature didn’t work as far as uploading the audio from the P4 to the phone. @RayOrtega Месяц назад
@@ca.asthavijjan In this case, the microphone is going to become your input and your output so you'd have to plug in earphones to listen back without unplugging the mic. A lot of mics work this way, it would be nice if you could select the speakers as the output but I don't know of a mic like that right now, off the top of my head and it's a really tricky thing to Google. I did test it with this other mic I reviewed ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ptk8kdN9V_k.html and it works, the audio plays back through the speakers so you can review it which is what I assume you're doing? My guess is that you want to make social content and check the clips before you post them? That Shure mic is pretty pricey however and doesn't work with third party apps without an adapter. There are cheaper type mics like the Hollyland ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ptk8kdN9V_k.html but I don't have it to test out to see if the playback will come through the phone speakers.Most USB mics are going to have a headphone option which then won't playback through the speakers, only the headphones. It's a tricky one and something manufactures should work on, being able to choose audio output source would be nice.
