In addition to freight within their assigned region, Walmart drivers often spill over into other regions that may be short on capacity to help out during their workweek. Hiring tends to be cyclical, often limited by onboarding and mentoring capacity. There are certain areas of the country where you will rarely see public job postings, Florida DC’s would be a good example of this. Other locations appear to always be hiring and even offer sign-on bonuses up to $10k. Walmart drivers in good standing are able to request transfers to a different DC after 12 months of employment. This is one of the reasons you rarely see public job postings in Florida. This is how many drivers get their foot in the door. I encourage you to watch this video link if you haven’t already seen it: D4W Part 5.2 How To Find Walmart Truck Driver Jobs ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Oq3TSg6eN4Q.html Thanks for watching, keep in touch, hope this helps answer your question.
I’m currently a team lead at Walmart I wanna apply for the associate truck driver to when are the openings been checking everyday I don’t see any I stay 30 mins away from the garland Tx location
Associate To Driver candidates go through workday on the wire to apply. I think there is 1 class per quarter, it might vary by region. When openings appear for applications, there will be a very definite closing date for each cycle.
i when from driving for walmart to living like a rat on social security diability got hurt on job walmart denied me medical and fired me walmartisthedevilcom
You are extremely thorough my fellow driver. I hope Walmart knows what caliber guy they have on payroll. You should be running logistics for them! Honestly thank you!
Thank you for your kind words!!! I think that’s why they let me be a Driver Ambassador, although the old 286 processor might not be fast enough to do logistics, lol
Question ❓ I have 20 years experience, I have been off work for 7 years. I thinking about getting back into a truck, would that 20 years count as experience ,or would I have to work somewhere else for 30 months. Thanks!
From what I understand, I’m almost certain you would need recent experience. I know of a Walmart associate that had a current CDL but was working in a store for the last 3 years. He had to go through the Associate to Driver program to keep his years of service with Walmart in order to transition to the private fleet.
If you haven’t done it already, I recommend you watch this video: D4W Part 5.2 How To Find Walmart Truck Driver Jobs ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Oq3TSg6eN4Q.html
Most GM (General Merchandise) DC drivers run their 14hr shift from morning til evening, let’s say 7am-9pm would be considered most common, but this is not set in stone. It kind of depends on your start time at the beginning of your work week. Recently, with the increase in drivers at the DC’s they have started offering additional start times besides the typical 0700 and 0900 gate times. 10am, 11am, and 12 noon gate times are now becoming new options. Grocery DC’s operate a little differently, depending on location, they can have around the clock dispatch times depending on the commodity, such as dry grocery, meat and produce, and frozen, dairy, deli loads. New drivers are more likely be on night shifts at grocery DC’s. The GM DC’s don’t have night shifts, On the plus side, there can be a pay differential if your shift starts after a certain time, I think it’s 10 pm. This may vary be location.
I love ur videos very good information..I used your referral number I have applied twiced had my first interview in December and still haven’t been excepted in the drivers programs
Hmm, when you did the interview, they didn’t set you up with a date for the assessments? You might want to call Candidate Support at 1-888-596-2365 Option 5. It says they’re open Monday-Saturday 8am-5pm Central time.
Sometimes they can get hundreds of applications, it takes some time to get through them. It probably wouldn’t hurt to call Candidate Support at 1-888-596-2365 Option 5 to see if they can check on the status of your application. I see a web address of Drivingjobs@wal-mart.com, I think it’s an email, but I’m not sure. Give it a try, let me know if they were able to help.
Thank you for your kind words, I just wish I was better at this acting thing, theres not enough time in the day after working a regular job 70 hours a week.
I waited 5 months never heard anything back from them I called a month ago they apologize and told me to reapply and somehow my application got lost in there new system
You can go “Off Duty” when you shower, eat, or go shopping at Walmart, etc. The only real advantage is if you want to work more than 5 days or extend your work week. 70 hours divided by 5 days is 14 hours per day, which maxes out your daily time limit for driving from when you first started your workday. Also, not sure if I mentioned, but our electronic HOS logbooks has a “yard moves” mode that you can drive on secure private property, up to 20 mph without cutting into your 11 hour drive time.
Once i pass onboarding this week, and i head to Palestine would they give me a walmart shirt till uniforms are ordered while with driver mentor? Also since ill be at Palestine, tomorrow is the 29th tomorrow is this the beginning of the pay period? Or when is the February pay days im trying to figure out when would i get paid for onboarding and orientation then the 2weeks with a driver mentor.
0h wow, I didn’t know you were that far along. Congratulations on passing the first hurdle. No, unless something has changed, they do not offer any type of loaner shirts, you will be wearing your own personal clothing until your uniforms come in. They want it to be in good repair, clean, no holes, etc. The first day of this pay period started at the first minute of Saturday 1/27/24 and ends the last minute of Friday night 2/9/24 with payday falling on Thursday 2/15/24 the next pay period is 2/10/24-2/23/24 with a payday of 2/29/24.
@@drive4walmart5 hey! Onboarding is going good and all, but i was wondering when would the conditional offer be accepted with walmart? Is it the last day at onboarding or the last day at orientation? If i pass everything thursday would i be hired and not have to go friday, can you explain that part for me as far as conditional offer being accompanied
Is it a a max they give you on the employee stock? Is it every $70 u get the discount or is just $70 per stock can u explain that part a lil more. Lets say i want to by 4 shares a month will i get 15% off of 4shares, or is it a max they contribute to each year. I thought i saw on a video the max is $1800 a year.
Oh boy, good questions. I’ll try my best to answer. You select the dollar amount you want taken from each paycheck to buy stock. I don’t know if there is a limit on your purchases. To max out the 15% match limit, you have to buy $1800 of per year as you stated. We have 26 paychecks per year. If you divide 1800 by 26 it comes out to $69.23 per paycheck. I currently buy $70 to get over the threshold. They chip in 15% or $10.50 each check, meaning that every payday I get $80.50 of Walmart stock at whatever the price is when they process it. For some reason, I don’t know why my pay stub only shows $203 each year but $10.50 x 26 = $273. I think it has something to do with the reset date which may be somewhere between March and April each year. Hope this helps.
@@drive4walmart5 ok i get it now, so basically you can purchase w/e or how much you want but they will only discount 15% of $1800 each calendar year. Thanx!
can you tell me how much did you make after taxes?how is walmart health insurance man?how much do you have to pay per month for Health insurance?how much after taxes plz in 2023?thanks
That is a very loaded question!!! You are not required to buy health insurance or invest in a 401k. After tax earnings really can’t be compared. Ask your tax preparer how much tax you would pay if you earned 100k per year. There too many variables such as location, dependents, deductions, spouses income, investments, and other income to name a few. Walmart has a lot of optional insurances you can upgrade or skip altogether. Even the available insurance options vary by location. What I can tell you is that I chose to select the best coverage and additional coverage upgrades for my family situation. I have medical, dental, life, accidental death & dismemberment, dependent life, upgraded long term disability, critical illness, accident, vision insurance that cost me about $1060 per month. Again these costs are going to be variable for each person based on age, family size and other health factors. Hope this helps answer the question.
thanks for the response.i works for a union company.my health insurance is pretty good.i barely have to pay out of pocket besides my union dues.i made 70k after texes and 83k before taxes.i been seeing walmart posts and guying that you can make 110000k. But im confused am i though?i dont know how much taxes am i going to pay there and how much is that going to cost me health insurance.i wanna come to walmart but dont wanna go back and make less then 70k after taxes.im pretty confused.thanks for reply man🙏
Yes, technically this is possible, but it’s not a very solid plan for someone that does not already work for Walmart. The A2D (Associate to Driver) program has a huge amount of competition for the relatively few appointments each quarter. Associates must have a minimum of 1 year of good service with Walmart prior to applying, in addition to meeting all of the regular licensing, physical and DOT requirements. I think there are only 4 classes per year at each training facility. I’m pretty sure it’s a 6 month program from start to finish. There are many government programs and companies providing paid for CDL training. Getting your experience from the outside might be a faster method to get your foot in the door as a driver. On the plus side, I often tell young associates at the stores, that they don’t truly realize how much opportunity for advancement there is within Walmart. The sky is the limit. It’s up to you.
How many days is onboarding? And how many is at your domicile? What day would you know if you are hired? And if i live in dallas where wld onbaording be? And is it a hourly pay for onboarding?
Qualified drivers newly hired in the Dallas area go Garland for 1 week of assessments, week 2 is at your domicile DC, week 3 & 4 and longer if needed, are out with your mentor. Absolutely a minimum of 1 month before you are solo.
You know near the end of the week 1 of assessments if you are hired, your date of hire becomes the first day. I’m pretty sure the onboarding pay is close to $24 per hour.
@@drive4walmart5 is it a dc in garland? Because i believe the local position i am trying to get is in garland or the guys park there. I applied for desoto but im sure the guy said i wld park in garland. Also do the local guys wear the Walmart uniforms too? And would walmart compensate me a lil more on the hourly for my years of driving or its $27.00 no matter what as far as starting pay? And my interview is at 9am today, would i be able to start monday if given the position? Or. It takes weeks to head to onboarding
There is NO distribution center in Garland. The Garland Tx location is where our Fleet Development Center(training facility) is located. Yes, from what I understand, some local drivers park there to reduce commuting distance even though they may be assigned somewhere else. Yes, local Walmart drivers are required to wear the same uniform. Some new drivers have to wait months to get their uniforms issued, so it is possible to see Walmart drivers wearing regular clothing. From what I understand, pay is fixed, and IS NOT a negotiable item. Desoto drivers operate very differently from the rest of the OTR Walmart fleet. (Schedules, pay, time off accumulation, etc.) I just noticed your interview time, sorry I was a little slow to respond. Hope all goes well.
@@drive4walmart5 ok cool thanx for the info, so i was able to get the last Palestine spot. I applied for both, but i really wanted palestine. So i had the interview and they want to extend an offer. I guess i have to wait till i receive the offer and get orientation dates. I really appreciate it
No problem, it was intended as a “play on words”. Here, sawing concrete means going back and forth on the same spot without visual progress, whereas highway workers literally saw concrete as part of their regular duties fixing roads. Thank you for contributing to the channel. Have a Happy New Year!!!
Just do your best to do the right things and stay safe, that 10 more months will be gone in no time. Keep an eye on drive4walmart.com to see how the postings pop up and disappear for places you’d like to consider working. Make sure you have all your information gathered so you’re ready to respond to a new posting promptly when you get near your 30 months.
That’s awesome. If you’re able, don’t forget to tune in tomorrow night at 7pm for the RU-vid live event I’ll be hosting. Please keep in touch, I know a lot of the CDT’s you’ll be interacting with over the next several months. I look forward to meeting you. Stay safe and have a happy new year.
I’m assuming they closed the posting, as I don’t see it currently. If they don’t call you, remember to check back frequently, almost every DC will open hiring later as they need more drivers.
Making a left turn thru a yellow that turns red is a fail too. The walmart way is to make a left turn on green only. Dont ask me how I know lol. I'll try again next year though
I finished on-boarding yesterday. It was GRUELING! I describe it as the longest, most stressful job interview ever. Well worth it in the end, but truly a test of what you’re made of. Our class started with 14 and by the end, only 8 were hired. Folks, this isn’t an easy lay-up. Be on top of your game!
Our major service area is the Dallas/Ft Worth metroplex about 125 miles away. Palestine also covers deep east Texas and west toward Waco and Temple. We also cover the bottom of Oklahoma east to Texarkana and Shreveport. We routinely visit many different DC's and vendors staying within 600 miles for the most part. I was just in Las Cruces NM this last week. In the last 3 years, I've been to Albuquerque NM on the west, Tulsa OK and Bentonville AR to the north, and Memphis TN to the east, and everything south.
I thought you were out of cleburne this whole time. I ran with landstar out of palestine but i thought i saw u in cleburne. Im onboarding for palestine monday. I chose palestine over sanger because of the dfw area and some west and east texas areas because of the more miles at 75mph. What do u think the avg gross income as a new driver this year can make monthly or weekly?
Your skills and ability to follow directions are assessed in the first week at the Fleet Development facility in Garland Tx. Drivers know whether or not they are hired at that time. After assessments, everything else continues at the Palestine Tx location.
i failed the onboarding, but i was asked to try again 60 days later. i was so stupid that i forgot to check the seatbelt and lugs for two wheels. i will be very well prepare next time. I am back to my old job this week. i love my personal truck.
Sorry to hear that, don’t be too hard on yourself, we’re all human, we all make mistakes. Out of curiosity, can you share the location of your assessments?
spring valley IL. we had maybe 11 people , 7 of us failed last week. In my case, I actually walked off after I was told that I already missed 2 wheels for lug nuts. I was so disappointed to myself so I gave up, i was stress and tired though. No hard feeling, i will try again next time and pass it. @@drive4walmart5
At what point on the application does one enter the referral name and number? The only thing it allows is I know someone whom works at Walmart but doesn’t give the option to add the name and number
Apparently the online application has been changed. This is conundrum, because Walmart wants us to reach out to contact potential new hires, but there doesn’t appear to be a cohesive connection between the referred drivers application and credit to the sponsoring driver. 3 years ago when I hired on, I do remember being clearly encouraged by the CDT’s on day 1 of onboarding, to confirm any driver referral names to ensure proper credit is given. My advice is to verbally share referral info with appropriate associates early in the assessment and/or onboarding process. I’ll have to dig into this and find out what the current procedure is. Change is always a constant at Walmart. Thank you for sharing and asking a great question.
you have to enter the name and number when it asks "do you have a relative who works for walmart".. you can just call your referral your "cousin" even if they're not. that's what i did recently and it worked
I recommend watching the previous video, here is a link D4W Part 5.2 How To Find Walmart Truck Driver Jobs ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Oq3TSg6eN4Q.html when you select a job you can scroll down to see the minimum requirements.
Everybody has to start somewhere, think about your answers to the questions your safety manager is going to ask you about your thoughts just prior to an incident. My advice is to learn as much as you can, ask questions, use caution, comply with the law, and stay out of trouble. 30 months of no accidents or tickets should have you eligible for hiring.
Oh they are hiring! But thier hiring criteria goes beyond just seeing if you can fog up a mirror. Do you actually think getting hired on with one of the best trucking jobs in the country is easy??? You have to have a certain amount of experience, a good job history, no DUI's, and you actually have to know how to drive a truck.... which one of those qualifications knocks you out of consideration???? You kind of just outed yourself !!!
Just came back from onboarding, their not playing when they say you really have to earn this job. They only want the best of the best. I was fortunate to be one of the best. Start Monday, can’t wait, Life changing Career!
Good information! But I'm not ready to leave Wisconsin just yet!!! I think the nearest DC to me is 150 miles out. That's a little too far for me to drive back and forth every week... unless Walmart will let me drive the truck home..... ?
I've been with walmart in Colorado for a little over a year. And for those who think 5 days of onboarding is overkill, I will tell you I came to them with 30yrs of safe driving and I still learned alot in those 5days. I have to say just in a little over 1yr with walmart I'm definitely a better driver. Always keep learning where ever you drive fellow drivers and be safe
Great words of encouragement. A good driver is always learning new strategies to stay safe. This is the best job I’ve ever had, I’m so glad to be here. Thanks for your input.
